Controversial Topics Board

I'm reading that many people don't what this separate, sign-up only board because they will read comments from people with whom they disagree. And those people might (will) stand hard and strong by their opinions - to the point of annoyance. And, of course, there will be those who join to simply stir up trouble.

Is it too controversial to suggest that a board like that isn't for you? Not calling out anyone - just thinking out loud. Perhaps there should be a section of DISboards like that - but just not for everyone. If it does turn into an echo chamber of thought, opinions and ideas one doesn't like, or one feels overwhelmed, or offended or not heard, that person could leave the group.

On the other hand a board like that could be wonderful if you found like minded people.

For me I love debating and even arguing with people with whom I disagree. If they get to be too much I know how to just move on. No need to block - just stop responding.

That might be the perfect board for someone like me.
It's the "DIS".

The current 'ignore' feature works great since you can hide comments from certain individuals. If the context of a certain thread is unclear due to those you have previously 'ignored', you can click the "show ignored content" button near the bottom right to temporarily view all posts on that particular page. Those you previously put on ignore remain on ignore once you move off that page.

When you are viewing the home page of a specific forum, threads started by those you have on ignore won't appear. You can also do the "show ignored content" to temporarily see if any of those threads are of interest to you.

In your user profile you can view the individuals you currently have on ignore. I periodically review my list since someone who last posted 3 yrs ago is likely no longer an active participant.

Just to ask it, would a thread pertaining to any possible information surrounding the Dis, as well as any discussion of the previously removed individual should any new information come to light be considered acceptable on this new subforum?

I’m not saying one is going to get created but that’s a recent relevant somewhat controversial topic.

I think it should be a separate subsection that you need to “earn” access to ie so many posts or days since joining. I’m part of a big tech forum here in Australia and they have a Coffee Lounge section that you get entry to after so long in the board then another subsection you get into dependant on your “aura” which is from earning / losing points from previous posts. This cuts down on one hit wonders lobbing grenades to inflame everyone else then scampering off.

I actually look forward to the ability to actually say what I want to say instead of a laughing emoji. The laughing emoji is the safe bet right now because the report button flies when you say what you want to say.
The laughing emoji has been used by many for a long time here to devalue certain posts.

I do look forward to hearing what you have to say, Tippy!

I mean....is there anything left to know?

Sam, you know we are friends. Well, I like to think we are. But yes, it's self control. Try as I will not to respond, dang if those transgender bathroom posts don't reel me in despite my best efforts.
I don't want to misconstrue, and perhaps you're just bantering back-and-forth with your friend, but would you be suggesting those types of threads shouldn't be permitted because they trouble you?

:thumbsup2 This is key. Everybody needs to realize that being quoted by somebody isn't a summons demanding a response and an emoji-reaction doesn't need to be taken as a direct challenge.

I get so tired of the ad neasum of bathroom posts. The plethora of posts about bathroom gender, etc, are boring, pathetic, and out of line. Give me a ,,,which resort, which restaurant, which...blah blah blah over the same old I think only men should have xyz posts. And @ronandannette I love your posts if that matters

Or themselves for certain posters 🤔

A totally open forum will never work, there will always be some jerk posting 100 times a day with the same drival.

Agreed! Sadly, I have a mental list of curmudgeons that I don't want to ignore because it makes the thread a mess, but they drivel on and on and on and...they've died a zillion hills.

100%. Often if you post Disney related questions it's crickets or minimal responses.
I don’t find this to be true. On the specific forums, Parks, Resorts, Transportatiin, etc., I get multiple replies to all my questions and if I see someone looking for help I always try to reply will helpful info from our experiences.

As far as this new forum goes, from one who participated in the old Debate Board, I say give it a trial run open to all topics. Some will participate and some won’t. There is a plethora of people on the Dis and many of them don‘t post on the CB.

Glad you experienced differently

I think we all find certain topics boring....pathetic....etc. And we all have the ability to avoid those topics, or leave when we've had enough.

My hope is that if we are allowed to actually discuss topics fully....debate a bit, hear each other out fully....without getting personal or being snarky, that we might hear each other out a bit. I can be stubborn in my opinions, but I'm also growing weary of this country of ours....all of us in our silos. We have been fighting proxy wars on this board for years now...since the election in 2016 if we're all being honest. I would like to be able to actually say the names...Trump and Biden (hope this isn't too soon Corey). And I hope to find some discussion around the common ground....that many of us wish that this rematch wasn't happening.

Do you recall if I ever moved any of your CB posts to the Debate Board, Steve, while you had your previous DIS name (not sure what it was back then)?
I don’t think so Dan. Back then I mainly participated in the Transportation, Parks, Resorts and Debate Boards. I didn’t discover the CB until the Debate Board was shut down.

My previous screen name was my real name which I wont share now. I was about to change it back then, and I got banned so I came back as The Mayor. Funny thing is I got banned by a mod from my hometown and I had coached her nephew in hockey.🤣

Maybe just me, but I would like hear from the OP what specific 'problem' this proposed change is intended to solve. It seems as if it is being suggested as a solution to something, but what exactly that is isn't clear to me.

I really like this idea. Maybe those who seem to always play devils advocate or engage in wordy arguments ad nauseum would move to that side of the DIS?

Would threads be moved from here if they start getting argumentative?
