Controversial but Important Topic...

I like the idea of wearing similar t-shirts but not t-shirts that are exact replicas. Mixes it up a bit. I know we've done a color pattern, where we've worn the same colors for a family picture. All of us were in different shades so it was really cute.

We don't do matching t shirts...but usually do "theme days" Even my husband can't complain about that. Texas Ranger day, University of Texas Day, Stephen F Austin State University day ,etc. It makes for cute pics and it's easier for the ride operators to know who's in our group! :thumbsup2

Love that!

My daughters (teens 20's) love to wear matching or co-ordinated outfits because they love taking silly photos together and they love that it seems to invite people to strike up a conversation. We sometimes have one day when we all wear Purdue shirts since we all went/go there. And we love it that people yell "Boiler Up!" To us or otherwise start a conversation or small talk if there is some connection. It adds to the fun...at least for us!

Wear them but make it very tacky! Why bother with a bland t-shirt that has, "Family Vacation 2104" printed when you can do something fun with it!

Go with a cool Hawaii print, or a goofy logo (no - not that Goofy!).

Agree. If you're making up special shirts, go the extra mile.

I don't think it's controversial at all. Who cares what anyone else thinks? You're not interrupting or bothering anyone else.

I might consent to wearing matching shirts by 2104. I'll tell my bossy sister in law who likes to plan for everybody with this sorta thing to ask me then. :thumbsup2

We wore these for Star Wars Weekend! We enjoyed wearing them to see Mark Hamill on the weekend he was there! Our daughters and I like to wear matching shirts a lot, however our boys rarely do. :)

These are great! I am planning matching shirts for our next trip. This picture will get my husband on board.

Like the majority of the PPs, I think matching (or coordinating) shirts are a fun thing to do for groups at Disney. I'd never dream of doing it anywhere else, though. Go figure. Even the men in our family are secure enough in their manly man identity to suck it up for one day.

As for what anyone else thinks about what we are wearing:
1. I Could not care less.
2. They probably will have their eyes glued to their phones, checking their latest MDE glitches, so they most likely won't even notice.
3. Grown men wearing mouse ears or Goofy hats trump matching t shirts every time when it comes to dorkiness.

My fingers and iPhone seem to be incompatible at times!

We did a multigenerational trip back in 2012 and the topic of matching shirts came up, as well. It was something no one in the group had ever done before. Some loved the idea and some hated it. What we finally decided on doing was a similar theme, but not 100% matching. Our first thought was, since my daughter's favorite princess is Snow White and there would be 7 of us besides her, she could dress like Snow White and each of us would wear a shirt with a different dwarf on it. All but one loved the idea, but she was so adamantly opposed that we decided it wasn't worth it. We discussed different ideas and finally came up with one we all got on board with. We all chose a ride or attraction that was no longer in the park (Skyway, Superstar Television, Horizons, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Cranium, Command, Dreamfinder, and Disney Stars and Motorcars Parade). From there, we each picked out a baseball tee that was white with sleeves the color of our choosing. Then, the front of the tee had the words "Take me to (specific ride or attraction)" followed by the picture. Then, below that were the words, "Oh wait... (insert remark about it being gone)." We got a lot of compliments on them. We weren't completely matching, but it was enough for us.

For those interested, these were our comments:
Take me to Skyway! Oh wait... guess I'm walking to Tomorrowland instead.
Take me to Superstar Television! Oh wait... am I too old to audition for American Idol?
Take me to Horizons! Oh wait... It looks like Mars is the new Horizon.
Take me to Snow White's Scary Adventures! Oh wait... well, I would rather meet all of them at one time anyway.
Take me to Cranium Command! Oh wait... I guess there are just bats in the belfry now.
Take me to Dreamfinder! Oh wait... I never even got to meet him. (my two-year-old wore this one)
Take me to The Disney Stars and Motor Cars parade! Oh wait... Well, cheers for the premier attraction. Curtain up and on with the show!

We thought it was a good compromise. We had a set theme, but we weren't all matchy. Everyone seemed content. And it was fun to get comments from cast members and big Disney fans who remembered the attraction, got the references, and had fun things to say.

I think "tacky" and "cute" or in the one person's mind that is seeing them.

OP - who cares? It's YOUR trip, not anyone else's. And quite frankly, if someone is SO upset about seeing matching T-shirt's, they should just stay home instead of taking an outside vacation.

Matching T-shirts do not just happen at Disney World. They could be at your local college's graduation where one member is presented and everyone wants to celebrate. I just don't get where matching T-shirts are offensive unless there was something offensive on the T-shirt but those definitions these days are varied.

OP- get the T-shirts, wear proudly and have fun!

lots of great comments and ideas. BTW....I was only partially serious. I would prefer not but will go with the flow. I do have to check though about whether the plan is to do this for every day we go to the park.

I'm in the process of figuring out a matching shirt for my boyfriend and me. Is it something we would normally do? No but he agreed (surprisingly) so we are doing it one day. Right now, I know I know it's going to be Disney Afternoon themed because it's something we both liked growing up.

Maybe if you set some guidelines on color (BF won't wear pink) or characters (no princesses, etc) then you will feel more comfortable. Or I'm sure your wife knows what characters you like and will incorporate them. And it's one day, one shirt that you can bury or burn as soon as you get home, if you so choose.

Since you asked, tacky/cheesy/dorky etc. I personally would never wear one, I did order them once for my family and extended family as a joke though and pretended I was serious.

Different strokes for different folks.

My family wears matching t-shirts for one day on most trips. Even my too cool 20something brothers wear them (not enthusiastically perhaps, but they know resistance is futile :rotfl:). They look nice in pictures, so we make sure to take a lot of group shots that day.

I don't generally care what strangers think so even if someone passes by and thinks we are tacky, I really don't give a hoot. ;)

I wouldn't do matching T-shirts but I think it's cute when others do.

Not my thing, I would do it for the our girls (for example Nana made them Mickey pirate shirts for when they did Pirates league) but I guarantee you my husband would not do it in a million years and so I would not even ask him to.

You can always do what my dad did, wear it into the park, allow a photo in front of the castle then "accidently" spill his coffee all down it so he had to buy a new one :rotfl:

I would at least let you wife know you aren't so keen, maybe a comprise can be found.

We are a matching shirt family. I find it easy to pack, laundry is a breeze [limited color batches] and love that its easy to keep track of each other as a quick glance will suffice to be able to see a child in a crowd.

I look at it this way I'll be wearing a shirt anyway, right? There are some real upsides [many have been mentioned in other posts] and no real down side...

I like looking at other people's shirts.

Usually DH and I have one either matching or complementary shirts. On our trip this past December/January, I planned for us to wear hoodies to meet Russell and Dug. DH's said "I'm her Carl" and mine said "I'm his Ellie". Once we finally got up to meet them, Russell and Dug went crazy! Then, they had us take a picture kissing and the boys covered their eyes. Favorite picture of the trip!
