I'm currently evaluating a first time purchase (my aunt is a 40 year cast member nearing retirement and moving home to Michigan), and had a question around contract expiration.

While I realize none of us can predict the future, Im wondering if there's any precident or predictions on what happens / Disney will do when contracts expire?

Will existing owners have the first right of purchase of new contracts? Would they consider any sort of extension at a reduced price?

I'm mostly asking because when I was a kid, my aunt was working at Yacht & Beach club, and I absolutely fell in love with that resort. Would love to own there, but trying to justify the higher per point contract versus the shorter contract duration.

Thanks!

Has it been a week already? :)

What does DVC look like in 2042? | The DIS Disney Discussion Forums - DISboards.com

We know one thing for certain. On Feb 1, 2042, my ownership in OKW will expire - I will no longer be a DVC owner and I will no longer owe annual dues.

Past that, educated guesses would say:

"Will existing owners have the first right of purchase of new contracts?" Based on history, all DVC owners will likely get a shot at the new updated resorts before the common rabble.

'Would they consider any sort of extension at a reduced price?" Based on history, maybe $15 or $20 bucks per point off the $500-ish per point purchase price for the updated resorts. Nothing big. But no extensions IMO. 2042 will be time to update the point charts and add some resale restrictions.

(Also, the OKW extension was a debacle - several threads on that also are easy to search for - so I don't think they will consider trying that again.)

If you want to stay at the BCV, it is small and generally tough to book, and that is why people pay the higher prices despite the short duration.
