Contingency Planning

In real life, there are three things that are most likely to disrupt my daily plans:

1) Traffic. My commute guarantees there are going to be a lot of people going the same place I'm going, so I've learned to have alternate routes and be flexible.

2) Weather. We live in a part of the country where weather changes on a moments notice. We've learned to take precautions from severe weather and to not give up on plans just because a line of showers is moving through.

3) Technical Glitches. My work depends on computers, so there are the infrequent times where you walk into the office, the network is down, and you wonder why you even bothered to get out of bed.

So now its vacation time at Disney World! We've passed the ten days until departure milestone. We've made our dining reservations and selected our three FastPass+ options each day; even have a tour booked and a reserved umbrella and chairs at Typhoon Lagoon.

All in all, we're ready for a great trip based on the things we can control. But, a good plan always allows for contingencies, right? So I've been thinking about things that could disrupt our plans. There are several, but the big three are...

1) Crowds. Our destination guarantees there are going to be a lot of people going the same place we're going, so we have some alternate plans and will be flexible.

2) Weather. Disney World is in a part of the country where weather changes on a moments notice. We'll keep an eye out for severe weather and not give up on plans just because a line of showers is moving through.

3) Technical Glitches. MDE depends on computers, so anywhere in the system can go haywire. Hope we don't wonder why we even got out of bed!

So, the obvious conclusion is that life prepares you for a trip to Disney World!

It always makes me chuckle when people refer to something basic as "Mickey Mouse" or to something laid back as "a day at Disney World".

They clearly have never been there!

For me I would add:

Transportation: I've had a few days that changed completely because the Disney transportation system was 45 minutes behind or so.

Dining delays: sometimes being seated or getting served can take a lot longer than expected.

Have fun on your trip! I am so glad I read your post - I had no idea you could rent umbrellas and chairs at the waterparks! Just called and reserved ours for our July trip! :thumbsup2
