Continental connection time

They have a good website too which shows floor plans and gates. Check your flights and see which terminals they usually use so yoou can check it out. No guarantees but will give you an idea.

If you think of any questions I will try to remember. This time last year I was very worried about it - now I would choose it over direct unless the price difference forced my hand!!

Same as me! :)

Thanks, I will check out the website. I have always thought MCO has a great one. Time to look at something new! :cool1:

Just back 4 days ago from the same route, EDI-Newark-MCO with Continental.
We had 1h 30min between flights, the problem for us was that our flight from Edi was delayed by 30 mins, also one of our party had been selected for security checks which cost us around 15mins. By the time we were clear of immigration and security we were in a panic to catch the Orlando flight, when we arrived at the gate no one was there apart from two attendants at the desk. They ended up holding back the plane for us and another family which was very embarrassing.
I think it is the same plane you get back on which brought you from Edinburgh.

We were held up at Orlando international as a storm brewed up at flight time .We were connecting in Newark and they held the plane back while they transported us by cart across the airport:dance3:

I take it that was your international flight you were at risk of missing then? I have had planes held back for us (the longhaul ones) on a number of occasions due to weather and delays. They won't hold a domestic, but the implications of missing your international flight are greater and this is possibly why they do it. Chances are, that you were not the only ones they were waiting for.

One more question :)

Can you pick your seats when you book online? Not a deciding factor, but it is a nice-to-have option. ;)

Short answer - yes :thumbsup2

But... we have done the Bristol/Newark/Orlando route a few times and I've had problems selecting the seats online for the return EWR/BRS. However, I think this was because it was the same flight number through from MCO to BRS, even though you have to physically get on another plane in EWR! So I would imagine it would work just fine for any other connecting flights in the same way it did for us on the outbound sectors. :) Not sure if that makes sense - if confused, ignore all this waffle and just take the first short answer! ;)

Ah thanks. I actually saw the little note on the page alerting you to the fact that it is the same flight number but a different aircraft. I wonder if you could phone and do it if there was a problem. Nonetheless, as I said, not a deciding factor.

I have decided I am happy with the prices that seem to be the average. As long as they are within my acceptable range, I am not going to hunt anymore. I tend to exhaust all options over and over and suddenly I decide it's time to make a decision and just go with it.

Do you remember if the site automatically offers the selection of seats option when you have processed your payment, or do you need to log on into your account afterwards to do it?

Thanks.

I booked through a travel group both times but got a code which let me log in to manage my booking. You then see a plane map and can pick or move your seats for every leg of your journey - I picked ours immediately and there are still very few chosen!!

That's great. Did you check seat guru to make sure you got good ones? ;)

I see that none are picked on the flights I have looked at so far. I have just signed up for the One Pass Frequent Flyer. Text and email alerts? How cool. Man, I must have been living under a rock or something. VA gave me nothing :rotfl:

I didn't use seat guru but that might be a good idea - I just picked the furthest forward that was available to regular customers. I hate being stuck at the back while the plane empties!!

I am exactly the same. But do check it out. I noticed on seat guru that the frontmost economy seats have a little comment that they have 'missing' windows, which I assume means they are situated in such a way that you can't see out of them and my daugter would not be happy with that, lol!

Well I would miss that by my DD likes the screen down!!! She hates the glare and really never looks out the window.

I was in the same seats this year and they were fine but were over wing - but probably each plane is different! Thanks for the tip :goodvibes

We've done the connection @ Newark and tbh I wouldn't recommend it that short a time because it is hell. If you get there and passport is manic etc it is such a rush. The first year we went I am sure our connection time was something like that and we really rushed.

This year was completely hellish because of an 8 hr delay at Bham which resulted in all connections being full and then had to w8 10 1/2 hours in Newark airport. Not ideal!

Having said that you could have a fabulous experience :confused3:)

Thanks for that. Always good to get a range of feedback. :thumbsup2 I know that delays can happen, although I think if there is an 8 hour delay, an extra hours connection time probably won't help much. I am not too worried about the outbound as there are plenty to MCO from EWR. The inbound could be a nuisance though - don't particularly want to miss the international flight. But then again, if I have to delay a flight, rather the one coming home :lmao:

Was your delay weather related?

Going out wasn't due to weather it was actually security breach. We spent the 8 hours in BHX because somebody went through security the wrong way @ EWR so everyone was evacuated etc. In fairness the 10 1/2 hour delay @ EWR was then the backlash from that because the airport was heaving with connections trying to rebook and they purely ran out!

On the way home from MCO we had another 2+ delay as that was weather related because it has been snowing in Newark and we literally caught our connection, because they knew we had landed so held the plan, 4 minutes l8 by running from one end of the airport to the other, it is comical now to think of it, but gees it was stressful :lmao:

In all honesty I would hope this situation is very rare but we are now flying direct to Sandford next year as it has put us off for life. We also flew begininng of Jan for 3 weeks this year when Orlando and the world had that weird cold spell.

Delays and missed connections happen a lot. I have had several, which is maybe why I am a little more relaxed about it. Of course some airlines are better at looking after you than others :rolleyes1 but I understand where you are coming from: you can't discount the level of stress that rises while you sit there wondering how they are going to resolve it.

Don't want to start a new thread for this, but anyone who has flown with CO and stayed at Disney ever used resort check in for departing flights before? I know CO is one of the participating airlines. I just wondered if it was straightforward to check in for the domestic and subsequent international flight at the resort and if it is even possible?

I didn't try so no help. Sorry. I always like to get on back to the airport on my last day as I am so miserable anyway.
