i mean really... a little bigger, and uglier decor if you ask me! Sure you arent sleepin right next to the door in the GF, but for an extra $400 a night, I would expect better.

ALL hotel rooms are basically the same...one or two beds...a bathroom...a window...a closet...

The point of the Deluxe resorts is that everything they offer is upgraded...as I mentioned before in my previous post, they offer better dining, themes, and amenities. If none of this is important to you, why were you even considering the Contemporary? What made you look at it? I'm not trying to upset you, I'm just trying to understand...you seem so against paying for a Deluxe, yet your OP was asking about the Contemporary.

I'd still like to help....

:hippie:

Im not against paying for a deluxe, I am however against paying for one that with the exception of a flat screen tv, looks like it hasnt been redone since the 70s. Take a look at the contemporary rooms. They are immaculate compared to the GF. I can't see paying that much for a room that when I walk into it, all I think of is my grandmothers house. That wouldnt exactly put me in the honeymoon mood, if you get the idea. I personally think that the contemporary looks the nicest based on the rooms. I am not concerned with the exterior as much as the rooms. When I think of how much Ill be spending on the hotel, I expect the room iteself to look like a high quality hotel, ie the Ritz for example. And more modern since it is 2008.

I could tell from your original post that when you referred to the GF's look as value resort look that what you wanted was a class of a 5 star hotel, which is why I said you should rethink your Disney World vacation. There are beautiful hotels at Disneyworld. With a large range of prices, themes and size BUT if you are looking for a Ritz type hotel, it is not going to be at Disneyworld.

It isn't that the GF hasn't been redone since the 70's...it's that the theme there is Victorian. In fact, it has undergone two major renovations in the past 10 years or so. For some of us, it's really romantic. I love it because it does make me feel like I'm in an old southern mansion, but with the benefits of flat screens & monorail.

If you want the "feel" of a Ritz, then the CR is for you. I just stayed there at the beginning of the month & while it was very nice, it also felt very generic to me. Like I could have been in any old Ritz anywhere in the world. That's why I love WDW...I can pick a themed hotel that makes me feel like I am a million miles away...for example, I love the Wilderness Lodge for the holidays because it feels so cozy to me.

The only thing that matters is that you pick a theme and price that works for you. Asking us if a certain hotel is "worth the money" is tricky, because it's a matter of personal opinion. If you have detailed questions about particular hotels, like room size, dining options, transpotation, etc...that might be a better way for us to help you make the right choice.

Whatever hotel you choose will be wonderful, because it'll be you honeymoon! Congrats on your upcoming wedding...and be sure to tell them it's your honeymoon when you book! :)

ok of those of you that have stayed at both or any resort with a view of MK for that matter, which has the better view of the castle? that is pretty important as well to us and my fiance isnt really sold on the GF right now though I am starting to appreciate it a little more, I need a little more than a flat screen tv and pretty exterior to convince him.

:wizard: back in Aug 07 in the Tower with a MK view and it was beautiful. Nice big room and very comfy and the view was great. I think you will love it there for your honeymoon. Plus the easy walk/ride to MK. I have never seen the rooms at GF, but the view from the Monorail is out of this world. I love the look of the pool & beach. Would love to stay there as well. But can't afford it right now. Maybe one of these years. Enjoy your wedding & honeymoon and remember Disney really is the happiest place on earth.

The Poly does have some nice rooms with views of the castle, but it's the farthest away, so it's not the best IMHO. I think that the CR, Tower, MK view offers the best guaranteed view...try to request a room on one of the upper floors to get the best view from there.

:thumbsup2

I also think the WDW has changed the way they classify the rooms...it used to be that you would book a water-view room at the GF, and then request a MK view...it was not guaranteed. Now you can actually book MK views, I think...they are more $$$, though, the better your room & view are.

Just an added thought...

I have stayed at both GF and CR (both before and after the CR refurbishment.) I used to adore the look of the outside of the GF, but personally didn't care for the more "Victorian" look of the rooms. Too old fashioned for me. Since the CR rooms have been refurbished, I don't think that there is a better hotel as far as rooms are concerned. Of course, we always stay in the garden wing rooms, but I'm sure it would be super romantic to get a tower room with a MK view!

Another great thing is that California Grill is there, and that's an exceptional restaurant! I honestly don't think that you can beat the rooms there, and the price is so much better than the other monorail resorts!

we had been tossing the idea of disney or jamaica around for the past week and couldnt decide. last year when we first started talkin about it we flipped a coin because we couldnt decide... disney won. then we just changed our mind one day but then randomly i got a disney planning dvd in the mail without ordering it though, and decided i really wanted to go back. so he said we could go there, as he will enjoy either location, but he wants the MK view room at the contemporary. so hopefully we can go to aaa and book it in the next couple weeks.

Here's another idea into the pot...why not sort of combine both ideas of a beach vaca & WDW & do a Disney Land/Sea vaca on the Disney cruise ship? I have heard nothing but good things about them, though I haven't gone myself (YET!). You could start at WDW for a few days of fun & then relax on the cruise & enjoy the beaches at your ports of call including the private island.

Just one more idea into the mix...can you tell I love planning vacations?!

i looked into that, and I would like to look again (like right now!!) but the disney site isnt working :( its also that the land/sea pkgs are so short on land so we would have to extend our stay which is fine HOWEVER... because of the dates, i think we would end up having 3 days before then 3 days after the cruise part...

now that we are onto that topic.. has anyone done the cruise that can give me more info. Maybe how do I get from the hotel to my ship? I know that sounds stupid but i have never taken a cruise and then also after the cruise will I be able to get back to the hotel to stay more time? any help is appreicated!

you would think this being my topic that i started i would have subscribed by now but i just learned of this feature, so i am doing it now :)

What do you mean that you "subscribed"? Anytime you create a thread or post on one, it should automatically "subscribe" you. All you have to do to see the threads that you have posted on is go up near the top and click on "Quick Links" (this should be under your name, and where it says that you last visited.) Once you click on there, scroll down to "Subscribed Threads" and it will bring up a list of everything you've ever posted on. :goodvibes

I know that when you book the Disney Land/Sea package, it includes bus transportation between WDW & Port Canaveral. Now, if you were to do WDW/Cruise/WDW, I'm not sure how you'd get that one extra transport...maybe they could arrange another trip on the bus or perhaps you'd just have to hire a driver or take a cab...I'm not sure since I've never done a cruise. I think there is a Cruise board...folks there are sure to be experts! :)

You could also just book as many days as you wanted at WDW to start your trip & then book a Sea only Cruise vacation to follow. By doing that, you might be able to get the one-way bus trip to the port, & save the extra cab fare and the extra checking in & packing & unpacking. I'm so anxious to see what you guys pick...keep us posted!

I just looked into that- doing the land trip then booking a sea trip, but the dates are tough. We aren't sure how long we will have. I am a teacher so I know I will be off. My fiance though is awaiting a police job and we arent sure how much time they will give him. Our wedding is also out of state (we just moved out of our home state) so he will need wed-sat just to be home for the wedding, not to mention whatever we do for the honeymoon. And because he isnt officially hired yet, he cant even find out about their policies. I mean, its not like hes the only cop to ever get married/go on a honeymoon, but he will be fairly new and idk how much we can push it with his time off.

There is something magical about a CR room with the MK view. :wizard: Watching the fireworks at night from your balcony is wonderful.

I know WL has a honeymoon suite (it was available for AP rate when I booked a couple of days in Aug). I was not brave enough to check the price but it might be worth looking into if you like a little “cozier” feel than CR or even GF.

We stayed in WL honeymoon suite in Jan '08 for our honeymoon. We really enjoyed it. King sized bed & a great jaq tub. It is a CL room and the service was great.

Would you be willing to tell me how much this was? and how exactly CL works? I know I sound stupid, but I just dont know exactly what you get at that level.

You'd be surprised just how understanding new bosses can be about wedding/honeymoon time off. My husband had only been working 2 months at a new job when we got married & he got Wed, Thu & Fri off the week before our Sat wedding & then the entire following week for our WDW honeymoon. He was upfornt about what our plans were when he interviewd & they were very generous. Good luck with that!

I'm also curious about CL & what that gets ya'...
