I am looking at staying at the contemporary next year for my honeymoon. Is it really worth the money? Does anyone have any suggestions. I feel like its the only hotel with rooms that are different than the value resorts. Even at GF it looks like the rooms are just oversized value resort rooms.

I like the rooms, the ability to just walk over to MK and the view at CR, but I always feel it's just too busy of a place to relax. GF is gorgeous. The common areas were relaxing, the pool also and the elevators weren't a zoo. We got stuck at CR trying to catch an elevator every night. Never failed. I would really take another look @ GF. They are definitely not value-like at all. Crown molding, upgraded bedding, service, etc. Are you set on MK area resorts only? What about Epcot area such as BWI?

I'm sorry I am new to the boards and cant remember all the abbrevs what is the one you referred to? I was just looking at the dolphin and swan and had heard of teacher discounts but idk if that really exists or how I go about finding out.

We have stayed at the GF for the past three years. By no means is it a "value resort". The GF has one of the largest rooms sizes for a Disney Reort in the Garden View Category. Check out some of the threads on the GF and you can see pictures of the rooms and the grounds. It is just beautiful there and we don't want to stay anywhere else.

Have fun.

I did GF for my honeymoon & will be back there this Nov. for my 15th anniv. It is sooo romantic...NOT like a value at all. It has really upgraded furniture, lighting, marble bathrooms, "dormer" rooms have vaulted ceilings & private balconies...even the toiletries are top of the line. The monorail is a huge plus, dining is excellent, fantastic pools, the spa, great beach area with swings that are perfect for a romantic evening. The Contemporary is fun, but has a lot of hustle & bustle, kids, lous music from Chef Mickey's, etc....not honeymoon material.

It's the most special vacation you'll ever take...why not splurge & go for the GF. We have NEVER regreted staying there!

There's a little help box somewhere on here showing all the acronyms. It takes a little getting used to. ;) Boardwalk Inn = BWI. Contemporary = CR. GF = Grand Floridian. MK = Magic Kingdom.

Swan/Dolphin are owned by Starwood Properties. You will not have Magical Express (ME), but will be able to do Extra Magic Hours (EMH). In Epcot area, Disney Resorts are Boardwalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club. Beach & Yacht are smaller properties. The infamous, Art the Greeter, is at Beach Club. Decor is airy @ Beach Club. Yacht club ihas distinguished nautical decor. Boardwalk's decor is similar to Grand Floridian. I feel Boardwalk's service is better than Yacht or Beach. I've never stayed at one of the Swan or Dolphin, but I've been to their karoke bar on more than one occasion. ;)

Heck! Some of the moderates are actually quite nice and "honeymoon" worthy.

For a honeymoon, I would look into the GF or the Poly :goodvibes. We haven't stayed at the GF yet (we're booked for our first stay in July 2009), but we have visited many times and the GF is NOT value-like. We stayed at the Poly last September.....awesome resort :cool1:. The beach has hammocks to relax in, take a nap, and watch the fireworks without fighting the crowds :cloud9:. And walking the grounds at night under the lit tiki torches is quite romantic . As for the CR......that resort just never did anything for us....too convention-like, IMO. We thought the Poly was well worth the money, as I'm sure the GF will be when we stay there in July as it is a very beautiful resort :). If Epcot is where you want to be, there are 3 great resorts there......the Yacht Club, Beach Club and Boardwalk Inn ;). I would look into each theme and see what appeals to you the most. Good luck and congratulations on your upcoming wedding :flower3:.

My DD is getting married this Sept but not Disneymooning until their 1st anniversary. They have chosen the Garden View rooms at the Contemporary. Quiet yet close, beautiful and romantic. :goodvibes

We stayed at the CR last year, in the tower with a view of MK, and loved it. Would probably not stay there again, but glad we stayed there once. Our room at the CR was much larger than the room we stayed in a few years back, at the GF. I do think GF has much more of a romantic feel to it, and if I were going on a honeymoon, that's where I'd like to stay.

My friend stayed at AKL (Animal Kingdom Lodge) for their honeymoon and they loved it. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Deluxe accomodations. I think the GF is the most expensive, but also has all the trimmings and is right there for easy access to MK.

Some things to consider... If you're planning on enjoying the resort, then this is a choice you will want to spend a ton of time on. If you want to use the resort for sleeping, showering, an occasional meal and maybe a swim, then they will all offer those benefits and I would compare costs.

Personally...my fav out of the Deluxe resorts is Wilderness. It has the proximity to MK, but has a quiet atmosphere with the "lodgey" feel.

As for as Contemporary goes...I've never stayed, but have heard mixed feedback. I've heard it's somewhat dated and with the current construciton going on...it can be hectic at times. Something to consider I guess.

We'll be in Disney for our honeymoon next April and will be staying at the YC. We really debated which hotel would be best, but decided YC would be best as so many people say it's a more "adult" oriented hotel. I also read somewhere (I'm sorry I can't remember where!) that one of the luxury mags voted the YC #22 most luxurious hotel in the US and GF was #43. I have no idea if that's true or not, but I think any of them will be fabulous for you!

Congratulations too!

If you think the GF rooms look like an oversized value resort room :scared1:, I really think you need to rethink your honeymoon destination.

I know WL has a honeymoon suite (it was available for AP rate when I booked a couple of days in Aug). I was not brave enough to check the price but it might be worth looking into if you like a little “cozier” feel than CR or even GF.

I don't agre with that at all. If you look online and look at the pictures of the rooms, you can see that all they show is some old fashioned style and a bigger space, with 2 queen beds. Personally , I feel as though you are just paying for the outside and my fiance thinks the same way. And maybe you didn't mean this to be rude, but who are you to say what I should do for my honeymon? You don't know me and I don't appreciate that.

Everyone else, thank you for your input.

Value

i mean really... a little bigger, and uglier decor if you ask me! Sure you arent sleepin right next to the door in the GF, but for an extra $400 a night, I would expect better.

Didn't mean to insult you :flower3:

Also see the problem. Those are old pictures. I will find the link for the new pictures for you. The rooms have been updated over a year now.

Go where you want to go. Personally when DBF and I get married in Disney in 2011, we're going AKL or Poly or both. GF is not my taste at all. We're planning on staying at the CR next january for the marathon.

Stay at the place that appeals to your taste, not what is the "honeymoon" resort.
