Contemporary Rumor

In a weekly newsletter I saw the following reader comment:

'I visited Disney this past week. I went over to the Contemporary Resort and spoke with one of the greeters in the lobby. I asked if they would be building a Disney Vacation Club resort in place of one of the wings. I was told, yes, and that the thought is for it to be a small replica of the A-Frame tower.'

When we were there last week we asked everyone we could about the Contemporary becoming a DVC. We asked at the DVC kiosks all over, Cont. CM's, guides around SSR. They all had the same response. A big smile, followed by silence! Not one of them said no, which has us hoping. One did say that she heard that rumor but wasn't sure. DH would only do a 50 point add on at AKV because he said he's waiting for CRV!!! He said we need a big add on there!LOL I love that man! I do have pictures of the construction area, I'll try to post them.

The other day on the resort board someone had a link to a computerized picture of the C-tower. I think it was from "Mousescream???"

The C frame rumor is probably more reliable. A small replica of the A-Frame tower would be pretty cool.

The guides are tough nuts to crack ; all i have grilled neither confirm or deny.

Your DH is probably not alone. With DVC trying to fill 2 properties, they have to be factoring in the possible negative impact of CRV on SSR and AKV sales. However, it is undeniable that a monorail resort would create additional buzz and potentially grow membership even more quickly. Lots of things to consider, which are difficult to assess from the outside since much of the detailed information about memberships, etc., is not made publicly available by Disney. If nothing else, Disney's steadfast silence on this issue is giving them a chance to "test the waters."

The rumour I have heard is that it is in actuality not DVC but the Contemporary suites so take from teh rumours what you will but honestly a CR DVC is of no use to our family we don't care for the monorail resorts. They have the same attraction for us as BCV which is nill.

While I think there will be a DVC at the Contemporary, I wouldn't put too much faith in a "smile and no comment". They would do the same if you asked whether the Tower of Babel was being built there.

Clearly SOMETHING will be built there, and whatever it is, they are forbidden to comment on it. They are probably reminded of that on a weekly basis.

During my last two stays at the Contemporary in August and December of 2006, every Cast Member I spoke with said it would be a DVC building and gave me some inside info to what it would be like. So take from that what you want and if you choose to believe it great, if not then that is your choice.

Isn't SSR expected to be sold out fairly soon, at least by the end of the year?

I've heard that same info around the Dis boards.

I really think they're doing all the prep, and may even start of the ancillary construction, before we get an annoucement...likely after SSR is sold out.

I think announcing CR would have a more drastic effect on SSR than it would on AKV (which isn't to say AKV won't be impacted..it will..but it has more of a "following" than SSR does, amongst non-members, IMHO). I think thats one of the reasons they're still holding out on any formal announcement.

Tour Guide Mike's website has a schedule of attractions, resorts, etc under refurbishment. I noticed a week ago that it stated that the new DVC tower at the CR is under constuction. I wonder if that is just pure speculation on his part?

For what it is worth, here is what my guide told me a month ago. I asked him to give me the skinny CRV. He said, "I am going to make a statement and I want you to focus on my last word." This is where I will misquote him but the point is the last word he stated. He stated something like, "DVC has made no decision on Contemporay Villas - YET!!!!!" Again, he told me to place emphasis on the last word and then proceeded to tell me to be prepared for the points to be extremely expensive and to buy fast when they go on sale because they anticipate a quick sell out.

Yes, it is.

I'm not singling you out intentionally but it's funny how often these stories have a very ridiculous aspect to them. The Beach Club Villas, undeniably the most anticipated DVC resort in its day, which has only 200 rooms and sold for about 20% less than current prices, took over a year to fully sell out. Are we REALLY supposed to believe a SALESMAN'S claim that a 15-story tower will at the CR will sell-out "fast"?!?!

I guess the answer to that would depend upon one's definition of "fast", but the CR sales window is certain to be measured in years, not days or weeks as some would imply.

The Contemporary is the site of the future DVC building where the North Garden Wing use to be. From what I have been told I think it's going to be a DVC building, while others think it won't be a DVC building but something called Magic Kingdom Suites.
