Watching the disney 20 DVD Set I received from on Ebay, I noticed rooftop footage of Wishes. Do I have to make a dinner reservation to view Magic Kingdom from "up there" or is there a public viewing area? I've been on the resort Monorail and know it makes a stop at the Contemporary... Is there a secret to gaining access to the top floor?

I have watched the fireworks from the lounge once upon a time, while waiting for our table to be ready at the California Grill. (15th floor) Wonderful view, and a nice place to have a drink while waiting for dinner.

However the evening we were up there, several families came up there just to watch the fireworks, and perhaps that's why the following change in procedure for the 15th floor was made. As noted in one popular guide book ...

"... (the view was so popular that) the Grill no longer allows just anyone on the elevator for a ride to the top - you must have a dinner reservation."

The restaurant has a podium where you may check in for your dinner on the hotel's fourth floor. And I believe that they won't let you up there until very close to the time of your reservation. In other words, you can not sit in the lounge and look at the view for an extended period of time.

Enjoy.

There is another viewing area, if I can remember right it's off the main lobby. That's where we saw wishes last time we were there. They even have some seats up there. Ask someone in the lobby, or gift shop were the door is. Try there :thumbsup2

If you're not intimidated by stairs, there is another way to get to that viewing area without using the elevator and going through the restaurant.

Take the elevator to the 10th floor (11-14 are restricted by room-key access, I guess they must be concierge levels). Walk to the ent of the hallway. There is a stairway there. Walk up 5 more floors, and bingo, you are IN the rooftop observation area.

The stairs often have yellow police-line-type tape across them, as though they are damaged, but they are not.
