Not to offend any of the CR resort lovers out there or scare anyone with ressies, but I have never found a good way to describe how the decor and atmosphere at the CR appears TO US. Our DD found a way. This weekend we took the boat from the WL to the CR. As we started to walk into and through the CR our 3 yo DD asked "Is this the airport?"

The CR is a great resort with a lot to offer, but the theming doesn't appeal to us. I guess it doesn't appeal to our DD either ;).

No offense intended - just had to share :).

My family could not agree more! On our last visit, we made a special trip to check out some of the other resorts, so that we could find a new resort for next time. My DS (age 3) said " This place is stinky!" And he was right. Although the amenities are great, we won't be staying there. I guess it leaves more room for all those die hard Contemporary fans!

Out of the mouths of babes - it is amazing what the little ones will say sometimes. If it come into their head it comes out their mouth. Sometimes cute, sometimes embarrassing - but always interesting :).

We always felt the same way... until we stayed there. We found it to be full of energy, bright and Mickey-esque! It is our favorite so far.. it is Mickey's resort!!!

We have indeed stayed there and admit - the resort has a lot to offer. However, IMO so do other WDW resorts who's theming appeal to us more. To each his own - everyone has a different favorite :)

just back from the CR. the looks aren't the best, but everything else is great.

I have to admit I am one of those people who is just not crazy about CR. I hate the decor they use in the rooms. ACK! Those colors and designs. I do however like the monorail going through this hotel and have always found that design really neat. It is very fastpaced inside too. Other than the colors in the rooms, I like this resort. HAve no choice but to stay there next summer since SOG is closed.

I remember visiting CR for the first time in 1978 and thinking "WOW.....this place is soooooo cool !!!" It was so futuristic for that time.

I guess modern architecture has caught up to the CR and it just doesn't seem as "WOW-ee" to some. But for some reason it still knocks my socks off to come into that lobby on the monorail.

LOL......But it does have a kind of "airporty" feel to it.

LOL. I can see how a kid might mistake the outside for one of the major airport terminals.

Having relatives that live close to Orlando my first trip to Disneyworld was when visiting them. At that time it was only MK the CR and Poly. As a kid I was totally awe insipired riding through the middle of the CR on the way to the MK. Went back several times as a kid and was always in awe, couldn't waint until one day when I could come to Disneyworld and stay at the CR. Of course when that day finally got here it was 10-15 resorts later but the CR still captured my attention. So the first trip with DW and DK was at the CR. Having been DW's first trip to Disneworld and after seeing the other resorts she asked "Tell me again why we're staying at the CR". After thinking about it I couldn't come up with no good reason except, "Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to." No more stays at the CR. Childhood dream fulfilled, but better resorts abound.

I actually think the decor of the rooms are pretty nice. Kind of reminds me of the type of furnishings you would find in a modern upscale hotel in San Francisco. However, the resort itself is stale, sterile, and boring. It is not a very "fun" place to hang out at after the parks close. Also, the food at the snack bar is incredibly bad and the decor is just plain ugly and outdated. The food courts at the moderate resorts (Port Orleans, Carribean Beach, etc) are vastly superior. In my opinion, the Contemporary desperately needs a major renovation or should be downgraded to a moderate resort.

Come on blueman - tell us how you really feel ;).

I agree with many - the monrail going thru is way cool and if we ever stay at the CR again it will be in the tower. Seing that we now own DVC I don't see that happening anytime too soon. The wings are rather uninspiring, but they are relaxing.

I do agree with you blueman - the CR needs some work as it does show its' age in a number of ways. The lack of comfy places to sit and unwind (other than your room) was a real drawback for us.

However, the walk to the MK is tops. That is only reinforced by the hour it took us this past holiday weekend to get back to the WL after the MK closed - I would have loved to have had that 10 minute walk back with no waiting in lines. As I said, every resort has something wonderful to offer.

I stayed in the Tower once and had a wonderful MK view but I still have no real desire to stay at the CR again. The room was very large and I loved the heat lamp in the bathroom but I just didn't get the Disney feeling I want in the CR even with a view of the MK right outside my window. It just felt cold and impersonal to me. I also thought that the CM's costumes were extremely unattractive.

In addition, I have never looked at the CR the same way after a very humorous monorail driver called it that "Giant Toaster in the Sky". Yes he actually said over the address system "Our next stop will be that giant toaster in the sky - the Contemporary Resort". It does kinda resemble a pop up toaster to me now :D

Groosch,

Ever since I waz a little Goof...the image of the CR and Cindy's Castle were WDW to me.

I have ter say that I love all the resorts,
but the CR will always hold a special place in my heart. It is "classic" disney.....and when you git to be an old fossil like me....you begin to apprecate the classics even more!

That and I think jurst the knowledge that Roy himself designed the place helps to make it special.

..the image of the CR and Cindy's Castle were WDW to me.

Yep, that is it exactly! And the CR didn't disappoint, either. Love the rooms and the bright decor... very energizing, especially on a cold, wet trip in January!

I totally agree with Goofyposter. The Contemporary screams WDW to me! There's nothing like looking out from the Tower and seeing either the Castle or the Water Pageant. I feel right in the thick of things when I'm at the Contemporary. The decor is a bit loud, but I just see it as whimsical.

We stayed in December 2001 and my teenagers loved it ! We even like the decor. The only other deluxe they were interested in is the Grand Floridian ( maybe one day ). We visited the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge . ( the kids were not impressed ). It was a little dark for our taste. And we are not real big on the outdoors theme. But the CR felt like "Disney" to us. I know I am in the minority , but I don't think you can get more "Disney" than CR or the All Star Resorts . I'd stay there again with the right rate ! ( we payed $139.00 a night/for a deluxe I thought that was pretty good ).

I've always wanted to stay there since I was a little girl. We're going in Dec. and we will be there for New Years. It will be great to be able to walk to CR and not have to fight the crowds back to our room on NY Eve. We love Chef Mickey and the views are breathtaking. Call me crazy but the Comtempora feels perfectly Disney to me.

If you want easy walking access to Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary is the hotel for you. Other than, I enjoyed my stays at the Port Orleans at Carribean Beach far more. Also note that bus service from the Contemporary to Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island is very slow. When we were there earlier this month, it seemed like Downtown Disney buses came every 40 minutes versus every 20 minutes as we were told. In fact, many resorts had two buses arrive in the time we waited for one bus back to the Contemporary.
