Is the common / recommended way to get to the Comtemporary Resort going through the Magic Kingdom parking/toll plaza?

I know there are roads that'll kind of skirt around it but it looks like it could get sort of confusing. Going through the parking/toll plaza seems a little weird, too, though.

When you go through the MK toll plaza bear to the extreme right hand side...start getting over so that you are as close as possible when you approach as depending upo the time of day it can be as busy as a New York major road :lmao: just stay straight once you've done that until you get to the Contemporary it's really easy have a great trip :thumbsup2

There is no other way to reach the Contemporary either by car or bus, however if you follow the advice given by Luvchefmic then you will have no problems.

Are they going to expect you to pay or do you just wave your lodging info at them and they say, "go ahead."

It's surprising to me that this information wasn't found on WDW's website. Seems like a basic FAQ kind of question like, "How do I get there?"

Whenever my parents and I drive threw there we always have our Contemporary Resort pass on our dash board so we never pay. I am sure in the mornings if you drive to any Magic Kingdom Resort for a character breakfast, you tell them that so you don't end up paying anything. I am also sure it's the same in the afternoon's and in the evenings by then there are very few or no Cast Members at any of the toll boths.

If you are staying on-site you never pay for parking for the parks, just show your resort room ID

Your parking pass is enough to let you through. It's just a matter of slowing down a bit unless the entrance is really busy or something. And before anyone asks, there is no separate line for resort guests only. If there was, people would use that thinking they could avoid the parking fee and then it would get jammed up with people that aren't supposed to be there.

Not noted yet - if you have not checked into your monirail resort yet, show your confirmation notice and tell the sttandant you are checking in. If you truly are not a resort guest, you will be turned away at the resort.

Thanks - I was going to ask exactly that.

I don't get why they didn't move the toll plaza up further or just have a separate side-road.

yes you can - but you go by FW campground.

great for PO, OKW and SSR as well as CBR and POP - the others it is best to go through the toll plaza.

I forgot about going that way. I guess it's because my parents always go the easy way which is going threw the Magic Kingdom toll gates.

Actually if you look real closely towards the right sides of the Magic Kingdom gates, on the road they painted MK Resort Guests. So I am assuming that is to tell people who are driving to the Magic Kingdom Resorts to stay on that side, because the other sides are to drive towards the TTC.

On the days when my parents and I have arrived at the Magic Kingdom gates I get the feeling the Cast Members don't really care if we were checking in or not. One time they gave my Dad a pice of paper to put on his dash board when we arrived at the Contemporary, however the other times they just ok go threw.

Even if you were staying off-site it wouldn't be a problem. If you tell the toll plaza employee that you're headed for a monorail hotel, they'll wave you through. I've only had to show reservation confirmation when actually pulling up to the hotel.

There was indeed a separate (unattended) lane through the toll plaza that was only able to head north on World Drive to the MK resorts. This changed in 1993 or 94 when that area was reconfigured a bit - just about the same time that the resorts began getting their security kiosks.
