Contemporary Refurb...is it finished?

When we were there last Dec. '06 the concourse of the Contemporary was
under a "rehab". The stores were closed, etc. Does anyone know if this work
has been completed? I can't wait to see what they've done when we're there
in three weeks.

Yes and no. Parts of the work are done but this an extensive 'switching things around' ...

Construction work in lobby and atrium of the main tower at Contemporary will continue thru mid-2008 according to last report...

If all of the "rumors" are accurate, the new store should open next Wed., 11/21. This should complete the rehab in the tower until May 10 when the Concourse Steakhouse is scheduled to close. That space will be converted to the new quick service restaurant, Chef Mickey's Express, which is scheduled to open in mid-August 2008.

I stayed at the Contemporary in December 2006 and all the stores on the 4th floor were opened and nothing was being renovated in the lobby. All that started to happen around March of 2007 when the Fantasia store closed to become the new arcade location, then a few months later they started working on the lobby and most recently the Food & Fun Center closed so they can start turning that location into the Waive.

Anyone know how the 1st floor lobby is looking? I know the check-in desk is done, but I saw some recent photos with white boards around it.

The lobby downstairs is coming along - the front desk is finished (and looks really nice). The boards have "moved" further down near the food court (as of yesterday at least!). The 4th floor is still walled off, but the Mickey ears are rising above the walls! I'm sure it'll all look great when it's finished!

Disney was hoping to have the lobby finsihed before Thanksgiving but it looks like that's not going to happen. I'm hearing it may be completed around the last week of Nov or first week of Dec.

I think the suites on the 14th floor got a minor renovation, however it was nothing like all the other rooms in the Tower and South Garden Wing.
