My DH had a great time at WDW and told me to go ahead and plan the next trip  . I guess I should start being nice to him :rolleyes1 . After we had to catch the monorail at the Contemporary he decided that we must stay there. He just loved it. I would be happy in a refridgerator box at WDW so he gets to pick the resort. Since we do not stay in the room very mu ch I was wondering if upgrading to the main tower vs. a garden room is worth the extra money?

Well are you thinking of upgrading to the Magic Kingdom View or Bay Lake View, because there is a difference in the price. If you want to have an easy stay in terms of getting to the 4th floor and lobby very quickly, then the Tower would be perfect because it's an elevator ride away. The walk from the South Garden Wing is about 5 minutes to the lobby and etc, so it's not that bad at all. However if the $ factor is a major issue for you then go with the Garden Wing room.

I looked online at the Disney site and it looks like the difference between Garden View vs. Magic Kingdom Tower room is roughly 750.00. But the difference between bay view vs. MK view was only 200.00 so I guess if I upgrade I would do the MK view. I wish I lived the life where money was no object but it is. I can afford the tower rooms but I was mainly wondering if they are worth it. Transportation was my DHs concern as soon as we arrived. He liked the convenience CR had.

Well, if you are willing to spend the money go with the tower. Tower rooms are more convienent to get to the monorail, etc. The views of the Magic Kingdom are in my opinion the most magical view from a room you can get in all of WDW. Watching fireworks from your room, watching the castle change colors in the night are amazing. The Bay Lake view is very nice too. Either way you can't go wrong at the Contemporary.

We just returned from a stay at the CR in Nov. Had booked the std garden wing room, but was upgraded to the tower baylake view:cool1: I would have been happy in either place. I just love the CR:love: It is my fav resort at WDW:wizard:

Personally I think the Magic Kingdom View rooms are worth it, because that has to be the best possible view anyone can get out of all the WDW Resorts. So if you don't mind spending the extra $ for it then go right ahead.

As for transportation you have the Monorail or the walkway to and from the Magic Kingdom, plus the Monorail to Epcot when you transfer at the TTC. So that leaves buses to MGM, AK and DTD. Personally my family and I have had no problems with the buses to MGM and AK, however we think the buses to DTD are horrible. So whenever we go there we always have our own transportation. Although others say the buses to DTD are bad at all the Deluxe Resorts, so it's not just the Contemporary.

We just got back on the 8th after 10 days at the CR. We absolutely loved it! My kids were so happy there that even after visiting the other resorts they said never book anywhere else. They are 13 & 10 and I have a 2 year old. The older ones were able to go down themselves and grab something to eat at the grab and go...go to the stores. And if I wanted to I could keep an eye on them right from the balcony.

Regarding the tower or garden...my personal opinion is if you can swing the tower...the tower is the best regarding convenience to everything. Off the monorail at night and within 2 minutes in your room already getting in bed. I washed clothes one night (late) and couldn't get a straight answer where the laundry was...remembering there was one in the garden. Lugged everything over there took me forever to find it..called on the house phone and they couldn't even tell me the right place. I finally found it. Being in there....I felt you can definitely be in a room far from the tower...there are alot of turns ...I felt it was confusing...then again it was midnight. If you prefer quiet and like to be away from things...then book the garden. You definitely have that there....If you want the conveniences right outside your door...book the tower.

I noticed you mentioned lugging your laundry to the garden wing. When I do laundry @ WDW I always put the dirty clothes in a rolling suitcase, do the laundry, then put the clean ones back in the suitcase and roll it back to the room.

I was considering booking a tower MK view also, but am concerned about noise in the tower rooms.

What floors get monorail noise?

How can you make a room request? I know you used to be able to fax requests directly to the hotel is that still the case?

We were on the 7th floor MK view last Easter and it was WONDERFUL! We were right in the center of the hotel, so right above the monorail stop. I think the stores, chef Mickeys, concourse steakhouse are all on the 4th floor and the monorail was on the 5th floor. I don't remember if there were rooms on the 6th floor ???? I don't remember hearing any noise in our room. When you went out to the interior balcony you could hear the wooosh of the monorail, but we never heard any noise in the room. The view was magnificent. We kept the curtains open all night and watched the castle change colors. We would definately stay there again! I was worried I wouldn't like the decor of the room, I'm more of a country casual style, the modern stuff seems cold to me, but this wasn't. If you can swing the price, go for it....:cloud9:

We stayed in the Garden wing a few months ago and just loved it! We would definitely stay there again. It was really quiet! I liked being just alittle away from the hustle and bustle of the CR.

A few years ago my family and I had a room on the 6th floor right over the Monorail and we could not hear it when it would go by.

We had a 6th floor room when we stayed there, and heard NOTHING outside our door - we were directly above Chef Mickey's and the monorail.

Personally, I can't say enough good things about the convenience of the CR. If you can swing the MK view, it's worth every penny.

Thanks for the tip Jen...I had one of those mesh laundry bags that I put in my son's stroller and wheeled it over. Unfortunately we didn't unpack our suitcases so I couldn't do that. In fact we had to buy another piece to come home with lol...I just couldn't fit and extra bag in any of the suitcases going...we had a total of 8 checkin pieces of luggage and everyone (6) had a carry on lol. Maybe next time I can pack lighter because now I know exactly what we used and didn't...thanks again for the tip.

Regarding monorail noise...we were on bay side 7th floor right above the steak house and chef mickey and we didn't have a problem with noise. The only time I heard anything was mornings when I was walking in the bathroom...and it was very minimal.

We have stayed at CR three years in arow, although we haven't stayed in the garden wing it's because we love the tower sooooooo MUCH! We have had both MK view and Bay Lake view, and of course MK is better but I would take Bay Lake over the walk to the Garden Wing. IMO there is nothing better than watching Wishes from your room and seeing the Castle 24 hours a day for your whole stay. I hope you have a great time whatever you pick pixiedust:

I second this!

We just returned from a Contemporary stay Nov 29 thru Dec 2. We had booked a garden view room but were sprinkled with pixie dust and upgraded to a Magic Kingdom view on the 7th floor. It was extremely quiet and the views were fantastic. Would I pay that much extra money to insure the view? I don't think so. I'd rather spend the money on other things at WDW. Would I stay at the Contemporary again? Definitely if my main goals were the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Walking to the Magic Kingdom was heavenly. I'll be glad to try and answer any other questions and good luck with your travel planning.
