Contemporary or Polynesian?

I currently have a Garden View/Garden Wing room booked at the Contemporary for the end of April. However, in my indecisiveness have noticed I can get the Polynesian Standard room for the same price. For those who have stayed at both, which would you choose? I am leaning towards the Polynesian but it is also under construction. Thanks.

The construction shouldn't be overly disruptive, though. It's supports for some patios/balconies, and a pool near the DVC longhouses.

You've got a 2/3 chance of a balcony/patio at Poly. You have a much lower chance at Garden Wing; I think only ground floor have walkouts. I'd go for the patio, because I like patio wine.

I love sitting out having wine on vacation! I think I might actually let the kids have some input and ask them. We shall see!

I was going through the same dilemma and decided on the Poly. After visiting the Contemporary my partner and I found it to be a little too businessy for our taste. If you are into major theming this may not be the resort for you.

Comtemporary Pros:
If you like the aspect of the monorail going through the building.. which you would probably not see as much in the Garden Wing. The other good aspect is the close proximity to the MK.

Since your trip is in April, you may still see construction at the Poly with the new Oasis pool.

Do you plan on visiting WL or FW? If so the Contemporary as a boat that goes to both. If you were staying at the poly you with have to take a boat or monorail to the MK or Contemporary and take a bus/boat the the other resort.

Poly Pros:

Lots of theming throughout the resort. If you want something more relaxing this may be the better choice.
Probably best transportation resort on property. You get Monorail, Boat, and Bus. Fast and easy access to the TTC.

You can also walk to the GF, no other resort gives you walking access.

Which park are you focusing on? If you'll be spending most time at the Magic Kingdom, then it's the Contemporary hands down, especially if you have pre-park opening MDR's at MK. The monorail's been unreliable as of late, and you can walk to MK & back from the Contemporary. That will also help if you leave the park during a mass exodus when the buses/monorails are slammed. If you're doing Hoop Dee Doo, the Contemporary is also more convenient.

If hanging out at the resort pool is a big priority, I would pick the Polynesian, as its volcano pool is fun for kids (pretty crowded, though). If you're spending a lot of time at Epcot, Polynesian also makes more sense, since it's next to the Epcot monorail station.

The one drawback to the polly standard is you may get a room that faces the parking lot. In itself is not that bad. There is a row of hedges to block the cars. But what you will notice is the busses and service vehicles that drive down the main road all night long. You will not get that at the contemp.

We just did the same switch. We had the CR Garden Wing and switched to the Poly Deluxe Studio. Even the kids having to sleep on a pullout sofa I'm much more excited to stay at the Poly then I ever was at the CR. And...It was cheaper

I prefer a garden view garden wing room at the CR to a standard room at the Poly. I actually like the garden view rooms in the garden wing. The views are awesome of the lake or pool areas! Also, I hate staying in a resort undergoing construction. A standard view room at the Poly is likely to have views of a parking lot or construction, so I would not want a balcony overlooking either one of those. Furthermore, as a PP said, you can walk to the MK from the CR which is way more convenient than the sometimes working monorail. Finally, there is no guarantee of a balcony at either resort so that isn't a consideration with the room categories that you are considering.

Now, if you were booking TPV at the Poly I might choose the Poly because the theming is generally so nice and you should be able to avoid the pool construction at least.

Personally, I would stay at the CR garden view and request ground floor.

I just switched it to the Poly and I am hoping to not regret it! We are going at the end of April so hopefully the majority of construction will be done. Good thing is there is still plenty of room at the Contemporary where the Poly it took me a few days to get a room with my discount so I can always change back. Fingers crossed that it makes everyone happy!
