Contemporary or Polynesian

You can't go wrong, but if you are planning on taking the kids to the pool at all, I would choose the Poly.

To the OP. Since you said yourself you want a great view of the fireworks, then if one is available you should book a Maigc Kingdom view room at the Contemporary. Everyone has agreed it's the best view for the fireworks, so if that is your main consideration for a WDW Resort, then the Contemporary is the best option you can have.

Thanks for the info!!! My DH travels a lot and the first resort pictures he saw were of the All Stars. I think he likes the look of the CR although some of the 70s-styled furniture had me pushing for the Polynesian!!!

Again thanks for everyone's input. You guys make me want to jump in the car and go RIGHT NOW!!!!! My final question (as far as resorts go)..how cramped will I feel with all of us in one room? I would love to get a suite but I also want to come back to WDW in a few years too!!!!

Definately go Polynesian- We stayed at the Contemporary for the Christmas Parade and were very disapointed- first time ever for that at a Disney resort. It seemed very outdated to us and not really even as nice as the moderate resorts we have stayed in.

The rooms at either resort can handle 2 adults and 3 children probably better than any other standard rooms at WDW. IIRC, CR has the largest rooms, or at least it feels like it to us.

Have you seen photos of the remodeled rooms at CR? I never thought I'd want to stay there but my DS really wants to stay there and the new rooms look really cool. The new rooms at the Poly are great too.

We had plenty of room at the CR in September, and the beds were fantastic. With 2 adults and 3 six year olds, we had plenty of space and were very comfortable. My DH who is 6'1" and 195 pounds tried out the sofa/twin bed. He fit on it perfectly. We have booked the Tower MK view again for next December.

The only things that I think could be improved in the rooom are:
  1. there is little to no drawer space, so we just left all our clothes in the suitcases. There is plenty of hanging space in the 2 closets, and you can get extra hangers from Mousekeeping.
  2. The bathroom has space under the sinks to store toiletries, but a very small space in between the sinks for items.
Have fun whichever one you choose!

We've been lucky enough to stay at both and you cannot beat the Poly for the magical Disney vacation. Seeing the fireworks is important, and we've watched Wishes from there many times. However, for the fun pool with a Magic Kingdom view, overall transport, ambience, sandy beach, and service, the Poly is the answer. The new rooms at the CR are nice, but Poly has been renovated with the plasma TVs etc. The CR can be somewhat "cold" and my DH has been unhappy with the service every single stay. Either resort, you will love the monorail convenience. Also, CR may have Chef Mickey's but 'Ohanas Character Breakfast and Kona Cafe are also good! Have a magical trip!

Just wanted to say hi! :wave2: I'm in Birmingham, too, actually in the Hoover area. :goodvibes

Our family, DH (me), DW, DS (6), and DD (2) stayed at the CR this past May. It was great and we really enjoyed the pool and the easy walk to the MK every day since our two children didn't always want to wait for the monorail.

The rooms at the CR are very comfortable and there was plenty of room for a family of 5. We had a MK View room on the 10th floor, which was concierge due to the renovations that were ongoing. We all could sit on the balcony, watch the fireworks, and listen to the music. Therefore, my vote is for the CR.

However, because of the many great things I have read here on this board (and other places), next year we will be staying at the Polynesian.

I am determined to see for myself which is better! :thumbsup2

i would go for the Contemporary as well. i loved my sept stay there so much! it was very magical! I would someday like to try the polynesian but now i am afraid that i would miss the contemporary! lol! :goodvibes

I'll suggest the Poly. One of my most magical memories is sitting on my lagoon view balcony early one morning having coffee and reading the paper. There was is slight mist rising off Seven Seas Lagoon so it looked like the castle was floating. And then some hot air baloons floated by. Absolutely magical.
