I just booked a 10-night stay at CR this August in the Garden Wing. I'd love to hear some honest DISer feedback on staying in that part of the resort. Did you like it? Why or why not? I know the rooms are identical to those in the tower - I guess I just want to make sure I'm not "missing out" on anything. TIA!!:)

I dont have personal experience in that area of the resort, but IMO any room in the CR is great if not for anything else, but the convenience to walk to MK and being right on the monorail line. Enjoy your stay! =)

I think you will be pleased. Pre-DVC, we stayed at the CR many times, always in the wings (of course now there is just one wing). We appreciated the relative quiet at the end of a busy day. The CR is a beautiful resort and so convenient to the MK and the other monorail resorts.

Stayed there two years ago. We didn't like it, the halls were dark and in need of a good cleaning, paint touch-ups, and maintenance. Plus the carpets were stained and dirty. The room was nice, but the surrounding building just felt like it needed an update.

We had also stayed numerous times pre-DVC and I felt the wings were better maintained at those times.

Just curious, why ask after you already booked?

I asked after I booked because I'm *trying* to stick to a budget (emphasis on trying) and it seemed like a good option. I booked with the late summer discount and hoping for a more substantial AP discount next month. We shall see! But, it does seem like a lot of people like the wing. Perhaps I'll save my pennies for another trip instead of upgrading to the tower! :)

I've stayed there twice - first time I liked it. It was quiet, and had a decent view. Parking was ok.

2nd time I had a run of bad luck there - noisy, all of the guest elevators were down so I had to either had to use the stairs or take the service elevator (since I was solo it meant limping up the stairs because the service elevator was slow with all the people who needed it due to strollers, scooters and such and I was on the top floor), the food court was a mess both mornings.
I did like the walk to MK.

I decided if I can ever afford to stay there again, I'll be staying in the tower.

Stayed last August:

Loved the closeness to MK and the monorail.

Hated the moisture issue in our room and that a herd of elephants was staying in the room above ours.

If you want to stay on the monorail on a budget, it's the way to go. We stayed there last November after staying in the tower a few months earlier and honestly, I missed the tower. I felt disconnected from the rest of the resort and didn't really like our long walk. Plus, we were on the second floor which meant no balcony. The room was lovely, though! I think if I stayed there again, I would request ground floor, close to tower.

We like it a lot. It also helped that we were in the first garden building so it was close to the main tower. It was very quiet and extremely convenient being walking distance to the MK.

I agree with the poster that said it was dark and dirty. Not a fan. We stayed one night and headed back to the grand Floridian.

We had a great experience there last fall. We were able to book one of the few deluxe rooms, so we were only about four rooms down the hall in the closest building. This was a trip with just my DD14 and DS4, and I knew I wanted to be within walking distance of the MK where we spent most of our time.

We stayed last September and very much enjoyed the garden wing. We are a family of five with a double stroller. We've never stayed in the tour. Our garden view was lovely. We overlooked the pool and bay. It was a very short walk to the pool. The wing was very quiet. A covered walkway connects the building to the tower. We were in the second building and it never felt far. Getting to the buses and the mk walkway was an easy walk through the lobby. It was wonderful not having to take the elevator often. We had a first floor room which felt like a must have. The little patio was nice. We are hoping to book a bounce back on our next vacation and stay there again.

I like it better then the tower as a whole
Much more quite nice grass outside the first floor rooms with patio.
Nice views for the most part
Just as easy walk to the pool as the the tower. Sure it takes longer to get to the food court or monorail but the savings is worth it
Only real plus to the tower is if you want theme park view and even then you need to be people who are in room enough to make that worth it imo

I am contemplating requesting a ground floor room. For those who stay ground floor, do you feel safe? For some reason, I am worried that I may be constantly thinking about how easy it would be to break into the ground floor room.

My Mom feels that way as well. So we go against the flow when she comes with us and we are staying in the CR GW. She likes the a higher floor., so we request anything except ground floor! The room is the same and the sliding doors open, so if you don't need a balcony thes rooms work out just great

The most important thing is to be comfortable with your choice. We feel safe on the ground floor, but since Mom doesn't we find that the upper floors are a good option for her.

The only issue I have with the Garden Wing versus the Tower is the longer walk, especially if you're out toward the end.
