Hi,

I have just started planning our first ever split stay for Dec. 2013 (1st leg AOA) I have always wanted to stay at the Contemporary, but not sure if it is family of 5 friendly. It will be myself DH, DS 11 and 7 yr twins. Planning on 3 nights there. ANY info would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Maureen

Yes, the CR accommodates 5 :goodvibes. All of the deluxe resorts (with the exception of WL and AKL) accommodate 5 + 1 under the age of 3.

Thank you so much! I am beyond excited and going through WDW withdrawal with no trip this year. I am hoping that planning our Dec. 2013 split stay will help out with the "no trip this year depression". :goodvibes

You're welcome :). Have fun planning......it will be this time next year before you know it ;).

I'd stay in the garden wing rooms they are big and I think the cheapest room choice on the monorail

Thank you for the tip. Can you tell me what kind of "hike" it is to the monorail from the garden wing? My husband has a co worker who is a Bay Lake DVC owner and is not happy with the "hike" to the monorail so I know that question will be coming from DH at some point. I need to have my facts in order.:rotfl2:

Thanks!:goodvibes

It's not long. All you have to do is walk over to the main building-not an issue-a building or two and up the escalator to the floor with the monorail. Have fun planning. We are also planning our Dec, 2013 trip!

We own at BLT and find it a lot easier to walk out the door and "hike" to the MK. It is not a long walk to the monorail from BLT or the Garden wing of the Contemporary, but it is a walk when you want to go to Epcot. The tower rooms are closer to the monorail station, but no DVC resort is closer to the monorail station than BLT.

your friend is very, very spoiled - the walk from most of bwv to the boat is a longer walk - than from blt to the monorail at CR. not to mention the bcv - just about every resort has a longer walk to their special transportation...

you even have a skywalk so you can go across on the 5th floor - there 4th floor. Now if he is being silly and taking the elevator to the first floor and going to the CR on the first floor - well someone is not on the Dis...

the 4th floor is where the escalator is located to get you to the monorail.

that is just where the skybridge connects with CR..

now agree about walking to the MK - the monorail after it leaves CR goes to TTC then Polyn then GF and finally mk before it comes back to CR.

this route can be 20 to 30 minutes depending upon the guests and how fast the monorail get access to its next place. sometimes a minute or two sometimes 10 min or more.

so walking which takes 5 to 10 minutes from BLT - longer from the wing but just a few minutes is definitely the way to go to the MK.

the walk to the buses is not long - now BLT is definitely closer to the bus stop than the garden wings
at blt you walk out the front door (don't take the skybridge) and it is what 100 feet to the bus stop.

this is one thing that the South side is closer to than the North side - but it is still a very short walk compared to other resorts to their bus stops. (except OKW and VWL)

Agree! The walk is a very short one:) The rooms at CR are great for a family of five:)

The contemp is a great place for a family of 5. The walk to the monorail is not long at all . :)

We stay at BLT all the time and the walk to the monorail is not long at all. and we were in the very furthest room there was .

Have you thought about BLT for the 5 of you? You would get a much larger room, plus a full kitchen, (and washer / dryer.)

Except the one bedroom villa will be more expensive than the Wing room.

Interesting. It's very good he bought at BLT, because the hike from any other hotel to the buses or boats would be alot longer than the hike to the monorail lol

The whole resort, BLT, CR, Garden wings are compact to most of the other resorts at Disey. The walk from the furthest room in the Garden Wing should be about 5 minutes to the monorail. basically closer than walking down Main St. to the castle ;-)

The rooms at the CR are also pretty big. I'd suggest letting the twins share the other queen bed, and the 11 y/o having the day bed, which is a full size futon. The only difficult thing is storage space for 5. There aren't many drawers, and closet space is tight. It's doable, just tight. hope this helps :)

We are a family of 5 and love the CR! The rooms are large and have 2 queen beds and a daybed. The bathroom is also large with double sinks and tub, toilet in separate area.
Enjoy!

The rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated. Not a Villa or family suite, but great space for a family of 5.:goodvibes

That's ridiculous. Once you see it, you will know how ridiculous that is. I wonder where that co-worker thinks would be more convenient than BLT?

We love CR! It is my boy's favorite! The day bed is nice and big and my oldest one likes having that as 'his own.' I don't love all being in one room anymore though now that the older two are teens. We need another bathroom. But if you are planning one room, CR is fabulous! There is something magical about it! I have stayed in the tower and the wing and we are happy in either.

I also think this is a good choice. We have stayed in a Garden Wing room, the 5 of us, and loved it. It is such a nice room!

I booked a "garden view" and LOVED it. I even have the picture of our room view on our fridge. And that was 2 years ago and I look at it everyday! It was lovely.

Remember: there aren't balconies in some of these rooms in the Garden wing. Request 1st floor if you want a patio!!!

Happy Planning!

Thank you all so much for your responses! So many questions answered!!!! I am so excited to plan this trip and all of this info really helps. :goodvibes

Thank you!
Maureen
