Just saw this on screamscape...

In other news, the Orlando Sentinel has reported hearing a rumor that Disney’s Contemporary Resort is set to undergo a complete overhaul in the near future. This matches up with another rumor we had previously reported on that they might start work to add a set of DVC rooms to the resort after the end of the 2004 holiday season. Anyway, they went on to say that New York designer Jeffery Beers is in charge of the revamp that will include a complete recreation of the dining experiences inside the resort including the rooftop California Grill, Concourse Steakhouse, Chef Mickey’s and an all new restaurant experience.

Could be the start of something "BIG".

lol -I was just posting this in another thread. We just bought into DVC last week and I asked our guide about the Contemporary and she said she can't comment on those things but they had added DVC units at places where there was a high demand before. She also said the bus drivers can tell you a lot more about what's going on. I thought that was amusing. They must be sort of like the mail room guys. ;)

Maybe. We'll see.

IMHO, The "DVC portion" of the rumor is just wishful thinking. :)

Best wishes -

I wouldn't necessarily believe those bus drivers though, because just before it was built, we were told by a bus driver that AKL was going to be DVC. I was hoping it was true!

At the top of the Forum, there's a "DIS Newsletter - January 2005" thread with a section that discusses the CR rehab. Lots of changes: Fun Center moving to 4th floor, Concourse Steakhouse moving to 1st (where Fun Center Was), new "blonde wood and glass" look to be implemented - but no mention of DVC.

I was told my a very reliable source that the ground work was laid at AKL in case later they decided to add a DVC section which is probably what the bus driver was referring to.

If they decided later to addon DVC it would be go up very quickly.

Does anyone know what the occupancy rate @ the Contemporay is? The reason I ask is because I doubt they would need to convert it to DVC if it already stands on it's own with just CRO ressies. Even though it's far from "contemporary" in this day and age...it still remains a popular resort due to the monorail and proximity to MK. I really wish they would -- but just don't think it would be good business sense at this point with so much SSR that is still unsold. Hope I'm wrong!

the Cont generally has room availability when all the other WDW resorts are sold out - it reallys even the rehab badly.

WDW should have done it to the Cont before they even start on the Polyn.

there were times when you come get a Cont cheaper than even WL. that should NOT be happening.

last year the SOG were staying in the north wing at the Cont and it still couldn't fill up the south wings and tower

Last time we stayed at the CR, there were 3 conventions going on at the same time. We felt like we were the only family there without "Hello, my name is ....... " tags.

I don't think the Contemporary is wildly popular for families but with DVC accomodations right next to MK, that would be popular.
