I've decided to give contacts a try FULL time. I have dabbled in the past every eye exam getting a trial pair and i pitial with them and never seem to wear them faithfully. Anyways, I've changed a lot over the last year and i sort want to complete the new ME look for our vow renewal in May. My problem is my eye dryied out terribly and i would stop wearing them. Now that i quite smoking my reward was contacts hopeing that the smoking was causing the problem or most of it with the contacts. I got some acuvue contacts that you throw out everytwo weeks and they are brand new on the market for dry eyes. But my dr asked me did i want some to leave in over night. I really did'nt consider those until i got home. Do any of you have those and if so how do you like them? What contact lens do you guys find most comfy? Thanks Tammy

I have worn contacts for about 20 years now
I started with soft lenses that had to be taken out every night
They were much better than glasses but to thick to stay in overnight
loved them but when I got extended wear contacts man was I in heaven
I take them out every week or two (okay dr wont tell you to do this but I do) wash them sometimes leave them out a day or two and put them back in (not throw them away)
they really do last longer than 2 weeks
I think they tell you that to get you to spend more money
I'd say I go through 12 pair or so a year
so change them once a month
I don't know if that is good for my eyes or not but I haven't had any problems yet.

Tried to convince husband to get contacts for year and he finally got them about 4 years ago and has never looked back
He wonders why he hung onto the glasses for so long

I'm not really clear on if your leaving these extended wear ones in overnight or not? I'm interested in what you think of them. Are they hard to get out of your eyes after being in for two weeks at the time or how long do you leave them in before taking them out if you are wearing them 24hrs. OMG it would be so nice to not have to take them out night and day. But i fear they would get dry and be very difficult to get out. Can you tell me more?

I wear Bausch and Lomb Toric Lenses (I have an astigmatism). They are 29.95 per box, and I need two different prescriptions so I buy two boxes at a time. I really like them. My eyes get dry very quickly, so I replace mine every two weeks. I hate that gritty feeling I get if I try to wear them any longer. A bit pricey, but it is not worth ruining my eyes over.
I do take them out every night, and even if I just want a nap in the afternoon. It is easy to put them right back in, and I don't do well with sleeping with them in.

I've had contacts for the last 17 years. The ones I have now are Acuvue2's. The Dr. said to wear them for 2 weeks and throw them away. I wear them for 4-6 weeks, but take them out at night. I don't like the feeling I get from sleeping in them and it's nice to let your eyes breath. I do wear them for more than 16 hours a day and don't experience any dry eye problems unless I'm surfing the web for extended periods of time. I find that you "forget" to blink often enough when using the computer. My advice is to keep trying to find the pair that's comfortable for you. After switching to a "regular" eye dr. and not the one at the 1 hour place, I found out that I have a very steep curve to my eye and needed a specific kind/brand of contact. It took a few pairs, but I found one that's very comfortable.

I used to wear extended wear that I slept in but I really like the ones you take out every night better. It is just what your preference is. Also the solution you use can make a difference in your eyes drying out. There is one that is especially for dry eyes. I tkeeps your eyes moister. I never thought I had dry eyes and didn't think it woul make a difference but it really does. I use AMo Complete Moisture Plus!! It is in a blue bottle and I can get a twin pack at Wal-Mart for about $12.00. It is an all in one solution and I believe it is a no rub. I love it!!!

I've worn contacts for 20 years. I have very sensitive eyes. I started wearing the extended contacts a few months ago, but I've only been brave enough the last few weeks to wear them all the time (I was taking them out nightly). I haven't had any problems with them.:)

I have a new type that breathes better. You *can* wear them extended-view (meaning overnight and such) but I *really* don't like to wear my cotacts while I sleep.

I have eyes that dry out and have to breathe. I used to wear an Acuvue type but now I use I think they're called focus night and day, but they're designed to breathe easier. I've noticed a huge improvement in comfort and visability after a full day's wear.

Thank you all for giving me your opinons and sharing your exp. with me. I'm gonna start these tomorrow and just try them then i might go get the other pair he suggested and try them too if i don't like these. He's a great doctor and i know he'll work with me to find the perfect feel good lens. I was worried about going to the tanning bed and falling asleep on car trips but he assured me that that sort of thing is fine to do with these lens. How cool i look forward to giving them a go. And Jiminy thanks for the tip on the solution i wrote that down and will pick up some. I did'nt buy any from him today. So i'll get me some of that. I picked up some fresh eyes at sam's club i think that's the name of it there just drops though. Thank agian everyone

I've worn contacts for about 25 years-started with the soft lenses that you removed nightly, heat disinfected and cleaned once a week with protien remover. Progessed to "extended" wear that you could leave in for two weeks and then remove and clean and finally disposables. I currently wear regular Acuvues that you throw away every two weeks. I live in a dry climate and have dry eyes and because my experience with extended wear in the past was not so pleasant I do not want contacts that I sleep with. I have problems with some of the brands, especailly Focus being so dry I can not get them out of my eyes and had real difficulty removing the extended wears. I also throw my Acuvue's away every two or three weeks-after that they start to dry out faster it seems, and I have trouble getting them out.

I've been wearing the Focus Night and Day extended wear ones for over a year now and I love them! Each pair lasts a month and I take them out one night a week to soak and clean. I was wearing Acuvue, but my eyes were getting dry and I was having to take them out every night. So eye dic switched me to Focus and they're great.

I've been in contacts for 18 years (WOW! I am getting old....30th bday in 2 weeks...but I digress...). I'm currently in J&J Acuvue2's in one eye and J&J torics in the other (for astigmatism).

I wear them for weeks at a time, all the time...sleep in them and everything. When they bother me, I toss them, let my eyes breathe overnight, and start with a fresh pair. Supposed to do these 2 weeks, but they last much longer.

As for dryness, if it's mild, I just put some saline in my eyes. Money saving tip here....many of the re-wetting drops you can get in those tiny little bottles for almost $10 are just saline pure and simple!! Not all of them, but many are. Save yourself the money. I get a large bottle of saline ($2 or $3 for store brand)that is non-aerosol...so it can just drip and not spray. Just drip that in my eyes in the morning if they don't feel fresh and I'm good for the day. It might be nice to get the little bottle for your purse/car, though...but definitely wouldn't use it at home. And the saline can be used to rinse my lenses if I ever need to. I buy no other solutions since Ijust toss mine when they're done.

Katie

Another thing to try is Acuvue Dailies or Focus Dailies. They're the disposables that you use once daily, and then throw them away. I actually have something of the same problem that you do, and those are the only kind I can use!
