I'm heading to the FL Keys over springbk. Plan on snorkeling for the 1st time. Was wondering if anyone out there has used a mask w/prescription lenses or if most just take a chance on snorkeling with contact lenses in.

I snorkel with a mask and also swim with eyes open underwater in the pool with mine in. Have for a few years now. Only lost one in all that time. I do however have extra pairs on hand just in case. Just depends on what you are comfortable with.

I used contacts at Discovery Cove all day, didn't have a single problem.

I've snorkeled many times with my contacts in. Never had a problem. I may consider taking them out for scuba though.

FTR - I have done snuba with contacts in also. No problems.

I always use my contacts when I snorkel. I don't purposely open my eyes underwater without a mask on though, and I always have a back-up pair of contacts and my glasses available just in case.

I also snorkel with contacts in.

If I didn't, I'd bump into all of the fish. :rotfl:

I can't see past 8 inches without them.

I do take a pair of glasses with me in my bag just in case something goes wrong, though.

I would LOVE an Rx pair of goggles, but they are pricey. I noticed they had one on that discount eyeglasses website, though. I might try those for our cruise this October.

I got a prescription mask for my wife and it was only $65 or so. She loves it. She doesn't like contacts so now she can snorkel and SCUBA without missing anything!

I always snorkel with my contacts in. Never had a problem. I do hate even just putting my face in the water with no mask/goggles when I have the contacts in. Even with my eyes closed, it makes my contacts feel like they're moving around and about to fall out. But with the air space in the mask, it's just fine. :thumbsup2

The Dr told DS to wash his contacts when he gets out of the water. You can get a pretty nasty infection if bacteria, in the water, gets under the contact.

Are they disposable contact?? I always wear a pair but I always have a back up in my bag just in case I lose one. I never have by the way- the only time I did lose one was when I went down a water slide with them in.

I snorkel and SCUBA with my contacts.

My mom always told me as a kid that if I opened my eys under water with my contacts on, my lenses would float away. Sounds like she was wrong.

I have always worn my contacts also, I just keep a mask on. I was never a fan of opening my eyes in water before contacts anyway.

Sometimes I swim with goggles, sometimes without. I always open my eyes under water and have never lost a contact or had any problems.
