contact lens exams?

If you have the chain 'Eye Drx' near you, they often offer specials on exams plus contacts. There is often coupons in the Sunday paper.

around by me most run on the average of $99 and that includes 2 boxes (1 box each eye). I know I always have to pay for my DS's exam since the insurance doesn't cover contacts... only glasses for us. He wears both. Contacts are his norm, glasses are his back ups...

It may be different in Canada, but I went to Costco to have my contact fitting done - and it was free. I have a current prescription so I didn't have to have the actual eye exam done. I've gone to Walmart to have it done before. It was 15 there, and at an actual eye doctor's office it was 25 but that went towards the cost of the lenses

Do you have an America's Best near by? Ours has a special for 3 years of exams for $99. I did that. Got my script and shopped around for contacts online.

I've never had contacts before, but can you order them for just one eye? I'm near-sighted in one eye, far-sighted in the other, but only one of my eyes really needs to be corrected. It would be great if I could buy only for the eye that needs help.

yes, you can do this. Visit your eye dr and talk to them about it, you do have to have an exam and fitting done.

OP try Site for Sore Eyes or Lens Crafters.

When you buy the contacts you buy per box for each eye. So in answer to your question yes. You would only have a "right" or "left" eye prescription and would only buy a box for that Rx.

As to the OP - I do not have insurance coverage for my contacts. I have found Walmart to be the least expensive near me. I generally get one set (the left and right eye) free to "try" to make sure they feel ok. I also usually get a new contact holder and 1-2 bottles of solution free with the visit. Once you have the RX though, it may be less expensive to order the lenses online.

Do you have a astigmatism in either eye? Just beware if you do it may cost you a bit more for an astigmatism fitting fee. I have eye care insurance which covers my exam but it does not cover fitting fees for astigmatism, so I have to pay out of pocket for that.

Yes, forgot about that .. there were some places that charged extra for that with DS.. think it was like $25 more.. but the lenses were quite a bit more.. last batch he didn't need them for the astigmatism so I got them for $13 per box in BJ's.. but did pay $99 for the exam at once price optical..
