I have a son and he cannot stand the princessness of Disney, either. We would go to go on TWO rides, RnRCoaster and ToT. The price was TOO much for two rides so we spent the last 8 years in Universal.

Heck, I'm female and can't stand all that princess stuff! :lmao:

I agree. You have to just look at the offerings for all of the parks and decide what appeals most to your family. I have 2 teen boys and Universal far and away has more rides and attractions that appeal to them. And Universal has pricing and perks that appeal to me! So don't write it off. And we always pop back in at Disney for the nostalgia, the theming, the magic and of course, the Rock n Rollercoaster.

I have a husband and a son. Can I borrow a daughter to go to a princess meal in the Castle?

Just so you know, I have a DD and she is now 15. We've been going since she was 6 (in K) and she has never, ever agreed to a princess anything. No meals, no dresses, nothing. She chose Donald's character meal in AK over the castle every single time! lol So, having a girl is no guarentee. ;)

Of course, now, at 15, I can hardly get her to even go to WDW.

Your girl is like ME at that age! Hey, Brenda!

The more I think of this the more I'm just not seeing the extreme. Sure the MK leans a bit girly and there are a lot of princesses but I can name at least 15 attractions that I'd say were at least gender neutral if not out right boy leaning (Pirates, all of Tomorrowland, BTM, Tom Sawyer, HM.)

I can only think of rare attractions at the other 3 parks that lean towards a specific gender (Mermaid at HS, Norway princess meal.....???) the rest are pretty gender neutral.

The whole Star Wars weekend stuff is pretty male focused.

I get the lack of boy themed character MEALS.

I just don't see an extreme lean toward girls. FWIW, I DO have a boy.

I also do see a lack of thrill rides, but that isn't what the vision for Disney was. It is a family park. I don't want it at all to be another 6 flags. I like the fact that we can do things as a family together.

We also have Universal passes and I wouldn't have spent the money if I didn't like it BUT there is very little we can do as a family. At IOA there are only 2 things my DD can do. The studios side is better but she is still too little for most attractions. We spend the day trading off on who goes on the rides with DS and who waits with DD.

As for Marvel at IOA. That is staying. Disney has said that all current agreements with theme park licensing will stay in place. Marvel has a huge library of characters Disney can tap into in the future.

registered just to post...

I live in the Orlando Area, On the news blurb about this they did mention that Disney had ideas to focus on boys as well - I can't qoute it exactly - but they DID mention a section useing the Disney Villians as well as some other things that focus on boys :)

Ditto for me! I've never been able to drag my DH and son to the castle for a meal.

However, they did escort me to the princess and fairies meet and greet so I could get pictures. My son balked a little. But, he has a lot of girl friends so it really was no big deal to him. In fact, when Tink started to "flirt" with him he turned beet red and had an ear to ear grin. I think that ended up being one of his favorite memories from our last trip.

I think the notion that boys should never set foot in the princess tent or the castle is a little silly. My son went to humor his mom. And lo and behold he came out in one piece! This by the way is a 5 foot tall, 10 year old football player from Texas. If he can do it, any boy can.

MK is slanted towards girls? I never thought so.

Pirates, runaway railroad cars, Buzz lightyear, space, race cars, wild west... all could be considered more boy oriented than anything. Most other attractions are at worst gender neutral. So as far as rides go, it's probably about time they added MORE that are on the "girly" side.
