OK, this is some scary Big Brother stuff in my mind. A new law was passed, quickly and quietly, and it will effect every crafter. It's Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, and it requires testing of every product that children might come in contact with. This includes dresses, quilts, afgans, jewelry...anything. It was started due to all the tainted toys from China, but it's going to ruin cottage industries, ebay, etsy, donations, everything. And those items will be considered illegal contraband, and have huge fines if sold after 2/10/09.

Here is the link to the article

I signed a petition to have the law reviewed, so it targets the intended problem, not the Amish lady at the farmer's market who is selling her quilts, or me who sells jewelry, and knitted things.

just thought I'd put this out there, as I know there are others selling like me.

I saw that over on the circut board at yahoo.

Pretty scary stuff.

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook- this is just nuts. They've taken it too far.

I've been reading about this. It will also pretty much close any thrift/consignment store because those stores would be required to test everything they sell as well.

I love the idea, but were lawmakers really thinking about what was written?

I will only affect those selling multiple pieces of the exact same items.

For example, you can still sell your child's outgrown clothing (unless their wardrobe was 10 sets of the same outfit, lol).
