constitutional Amendment? Call your senators and congresspeople

And I have a question for those that oppose the amendment, as I do.

Are you truly willing to leave the issue up to the states? Or are you simply hoping that by stopping the amendment, states that are opposed to gay marriage will be forced to accept it because other states do so?

Personally, I think it should be left to the state to decide and that no state will be forced to do anything the people of that state do not want.

I'm working my way through this thread, but I just wanted to respond to this. Vote for Kerry? Let's see if Kerry makes it in to participate in this vote. Anyone want to wager???

Sure, since I just got back from Vegas, I'll put my money decidedly on Kerry being there--Edwards, too. Of course, I already heard from several news sources that they are both planning on it already, but heck--I'll take that edge! ;)

And (to keep the post on-topic), as many have already stated here, I also have no problem at all with gay marriage. I honestly cannot fathom how anyone can feel it "threatens" straight marriage in any way. So I'm decidely against a constitutional amendment, and believe it should be up to the individual states to decide.

I didn't hear that they will both be there. I heard they will both try to be there. Not exactly the same thing in my book.

Stupid amendents like these are why our forefathers made it so hard to make an amendment in the first place!

Stupid partisan amendent...can't even get 50 votes on it's own side...

LONDON (Reuters) - A British man who accidentally shot himself in the testicles after drinking 15 pints of beer was jailed for five years on Tuesday for possessing an illegal firearm, a court spokesman said.

David Walker, 28, was arguing with a friend at a pub in South Yorkshire, northern England, when he went home to get his sawed-off shotgun, which he jammed into his trousers.

But as he walked back to the pub, the gun went off, blasting pellets into his testicles. Doctors later removed what remained of his testicles during emergency surgery.

Walker admitted possessing a prohibited weapon at a hearing in June at the court in Sheffield.

Well, let's see he was in England which has some of the strictest gun control laws around so I don't see how this affects the US. It really just shows that gun control doesn't always work the way they say it will. I think it's great that he was punished for breaking the laws of England and two that he can't procreate now - stupidity such as his should not be passed along ;)

Since the US federal government already does NOT recognize same sex marriage, (remember the federal definition of marriage act?), all this will do is take away the STATES rights to recognize same sex marriage. Now, funny how the Southern states always try to say the civil war wasn't about slavery, but states rights...yet the Southern states seem to be the main backers of this amendment that does exactly that...takes away states rights.
