I know this is off topic but one day after working out I had constant ringing in my ears. Does anyone else suffer this and if so how do you deal with it? It was also very muggy and we have had lots of rain on and off. So not sure if pressure related???? It is extremely annoying!!!!! Thanks!

It is called tinnitus. I have had it for two years. There is nothing you can do to cure it. Prior to mine being constant, it was intermittent for about 5 years. It is annoying but I try to focus in other sounds and block it out.

I used to work with a neurosurgeon who performed surgeries to stop the tinnitus. This was 20+ years ago and he was a pioneer for it. I'm sure many others are probably doing it now.

I get congested sinuses and ear popping and pain after working out too (weird). And, since my late 20s, many bouts of sinus congestion end up with pain, ringing, and loss of hearing for up to 2-3 weeks. Many times it led to ear infections too, and steroid shots and antibiotics no longer helped.

What finally worked? A doctor at the local emergency clinic (it was a Sunday and I couldn't wait one more day to go see my regular doctor due to the ringing driving me insane!) told me to use a neti-pot. Over the counter, basically salt water that goes in one side of your nose and out the other, and it magically clears my sinuses every time! I thought she was crazy, but once my sinuses drained, my hearing immediately returned and the ringing stopped. They are all connected - ears, nose, throat, so I guess it makes sense! Just figured I'd throw that out there.

I had a sinus infection this winter that traveled to my ears. After two months and three rounds of antibiotic the fullness and ringing remains. My doctor says it could take months to go away. I try to have white noise at night because that is the only time it really bothers me.

Maybe sinus related. My ears feel stuffy but my nose is clear. After this started the next day I had such a bad sinus headache almost borderline migraine. Do you think Nettie pot will work if my nose feels clear? I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. It is soooooo annoying. Mine will come and go. It goes away for a few mins if I swallow, or warm my ears.

Check adrenal exhaustion.

Low ringing can be kidney.
high can be liver.

I read this in a health mag so take it for what it is worth.

I'd also try the neti pot thing

I have tinnitus in my right ear. It is constant and I have had it for 7 years now. In the beginning it was more frustrating. I now have learned to focus on other sounds around me. I also have to have something at night that I can hear, so I don't hear it as much. I don't have a lot of advise to offer, except to tell you that I am sorry you are dealing with this. I hope it is only temporary for you, but if it isn't I will say it does get a little easier.

My dh has tinnitus really badly. His came after a very loud sound that damaged his hearing. He hears ringing b/c the brain is trying to make up for the lack of hearing he has at certain pitches. His gets loud to where he can't hear all conversations and it sometimes wakes him up at night. He's had it for about 8-9 years.

He has seen so many docs for it. There is no cure like a pp mentioned. There are devices they try to sell you that are very expensive and not covered by insurance but they do not work for most.

There are things you can try like reducing sodium or taking a diuretic in case yours is caused by fluid in the ear. Caffeine and alcohol can both make tinnitus worse also though my dh has yet to give up coffee.

About 12 years ago I woke up with Vertigo and Tinnitus. The Vertigo went away for the most part but the tinnitus stayed. I have been to hearing specialists and have to go back every year so that they can keep track of it and any hearing loss that I may encounter as a result of it.

For me it is worse when I am in a quiet room. I used to go into bed and read before bed and we didn't have a TV in our room. Now I have to have something on in the background to drowned out the sound so to speak. I used to love to sit in my house in the peace and quiet. Now I have to have the TV or radio on just to attempt to mask the ringing.

Go see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist to find out what the doctor recommends.

Well the ringing comes and goes along with some popping like when you are in the mountains. Also one of my ears is starting to hurt. I am making an appt with the doctor but now thinking maybe a ent doctor. Ugh! Thank you for all the suggestions

I had this and complained to my doctor and she looked and said I have post nasal drip and to take an antihistamine like Claritin, it did help after a few days.

Couple years ago I woke up at like 5 AM one Saturday morning, with a ringing one of my ears. I was looking all over the house trying to find the source of that infernal noise. It wasn't until I actually went outside that I realized that the sound was coming from my ear. I have no idea what was going on, thankfully it went away by that afternoon.

Tinnitus. Mine is loud. White noise helps. Silence is insufferable.
I have had it for more than 20 years, but I don't remember when it began as it has been so long.

I did finally see an audiologist last year. I don't have enough hearing loss for a hearing aid, yet. If I did, they can use those to help. They did measure the decibels of my tinnitus--this involved me trying to match my ringing sound to a tone that sounded similar in volume. I don't remember how high it was--but it was loud.

Avoiding silence, white noise, and trying to tune out the sound and thus ignoring it is how I cope.

For the first time I had the loud obnoxious sound they play on those commercials trying to sell you a pill to fix it (quietus?). That was annoying, but thankfully it disappeared.

ETA: audiologist did suggest limiting caffeine

DH just started suffering from this a few months back and it is driving him insane; especially at night. He was recently fitted with hearing aids. The audiologist said that should help (he has 50% hearing loss), but as of now no help at all. If he wakes at night, he can't get back to sleep. He's also tried a white noise machine-no help. He won't try sleeping with the tv on so that's a no go.

Can this one day just stop as quickly as it started?

I actually sleep with the tv on at night to help with the ringing. It might help him if he tries. It took my DH a while to get used to it, but he has adjusted. It really does help me. I also have a ceiling fan that makes some noise and that helps. I also have hearing loss, but although the ENT says I could use hearing aids, I have decided I am not ready yet. Hopefully he can find something that helps. It does take some time to adjust.

I hope the OP is able to get some answers soon.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will try to convince him to try the tv and/or maybe a small fan. We do have a ceiling fan but he says that is bothersome to him too. I sure wish I could make things better for him.
