Hi,
I just registered to consign at a sale this spring (one of those one day sales at the communnity center, not at a consignment store). I have a ton of my DD's old clothes, etc. to sell. I saved them for future kids, but I don't think I can put my DS in her old stuff:D

I have a few things I'm not sure about selling. The first is a bathing suit. It is a Gymboree tank suit and it is in excellent condition -- no stains, spots, wear or tear. Do people buy "used" bathing suits?

The other item I'm hesitant to sell is her first real underwear. I have about 10 pairs of Hanes underpants (princesses, Dora) that are also in very good condition with No stains.

What do you folks think? Would you sell or buy either of these?

Any other hints or suggestions for consignment sales to help me clear this stuff out and make some Disney money?

Thanks for any input!

I have sold those kinds of undergarments & such on Ebay. I'm not certain about a consignment store (haven't done that yet) but they do sell on EBay! HTH Sandy

I used to co-sign some of my son's stuff when he was younger and bathing suits were quite popular. I never remember seeing any underwear there but this was a pretty upscale place that only took name brand stuff. I don't think that I would buy used underwear , but it really would not be any different than a swim suit so I don't really know why not unless the orginization has guildlines to follow. Good luck. I used to make quite a lot co-sighning DS's stuff.

You would be very surprised at what people will buy. I would try to put them in the sale and if they don't sell, so what? Swimsuits will definitely sell, I don't know about the panties. But I would never buy used baby bottles, sippy cups (or pay for old Happy Meal toys!), but I see plenty of people getting them at sales I have gone to.

As for hints, of course make sure everything is clean. If it is wrinkly, iron it (even a t-shirt). If they will let you, put like things together, like three T-shirts for $5 or a bunch of socks in a Ziploc. Price on the low side. I am always amazed at the things I see at consignment sales that are priced for more than I can get them new on clearance.

Good luck! I'm consigning a few things later this month at a local sale just so I can get into the presale. I need some stuff for the new baby. If it's a boy, I'll be consigning TONS of girl stuff in the next few years.

Thanks for the replies!

I guess I'll try it . The worst thing that could happen is that I have to lug it back home. Whatever doesn't sell I'll put together in lots and try to sell on Ebay.

Now one more question...Has anyone sold "wrong" season items with success? I have some turtlenecks, a few winter baby clothes, etc. Do people buy that far ahead at consignment sales? This particular sale will be in early March.

I have bought all the things you mention at sales through the years, including the off-season stuff. My four kids (now 18, 16, 10, and 5) would have gone without a lot of times if not for yard sales and the like.

I always sanitize anything I buy before using. I doubt the boys ever had a brand new bathing suit. My daughter was a little more particular about what she wore.

Good luck.

Sell it all! It will sell. I do lots of sales/consignment stores/thrift stores, and yes, it all gets sold. The "upscale" consignment stores may not take underwear, and I don't buy underwear.... but folks whose choice is to shop sales or nowhere I'm sure would love to find some nice, clean panties in good condition for their little ones!

Bathing suits do well, just because they're worn so little and can be so expensive new.

Price items fairly...don't mark clothes a quarter 'cause you won't make any money. Don't mark things for half or more of their original price 'cause you probably won't sell them! I find 1/4 to 1/3 the original price is a good starting point...you can always make a deal if stuff isn't moving. Last thing you want to do is come home with all your stuff and no money!! And you'd still have to pay for the table...

Good luck!

You could first call around or go by some of your local consignment shops and just ask if or how well they sell. I put alot of the cotton training pants and my sons underwear in a yard sale once. A lady came by who was owner of a daycare and bought all of it. She said that you wouldn't believe the number of parents who don't send in extra change of clothes for their kids. So, I would give it a try, you never know who may need them. Hope this helps.

I consign at a local store every 3 months (that's how long they keep your stuff for sale)

This is considered an "upscale" shop where they wont take anything too worn or stained (which is very nice because when I buy clothes for my older son, I know someone has all ready inspected it)

Anyway, you should take EVERYTHING you want to get rid of. If the person running the sale wants to check everything and decide if it's worth selling, let them, if not, maybe someone will buy it.

Good Luck!
