Hi,
Was wondering if someone could post their experience on selling clothes to consignment stores for extra money?

I've never done so before, however I do have many clothes in good condition which I would love to try to get some extra disney money for... :)

Thanks in advance for the help.

:)

I have sold my kids' outgrown clothes (and toys and books) to a chain store called KidtoKid. They pay cash or offer you store credit. The owner pays more that I would get in a yard sale but even he asked me why I did not try to sell them on ebay! I used to consign their clothes to a different shop but she now buys inventory (on ebay) from stores going out of business and won't buy from her previous clients. Some people have great luck with consignment stores but there aren't many here in the Boston area and those that exist are looking for nearly-new, high-end brand names.

I have tried to sell to once upon a child and they stink. Maybe it was the person I got or whatever but I brought in a lot of pants that were in excellent condition. I was told there was to much wear in the knees - which was completely not accurate. I told her I bet $100 I could find pants in worse condition and you know what - I did. They still wouldn't give me anything for the pants I had. They did take a a couple shirts and a couple shorts and gave me $4 for them.

It wasn't a good expirence for me.

You have to shop around for a good consignment shop that fits your needs. I would begin my search by just shopping in a few. This way you get first hand knowledge of what type of clothing/condition they will accept. I only deal with ones who offer me 50% of the selling price and those who cash out on a monthly basis.

In my area, there is also a bi-annual sale. It's a little different in that you tag and price your own clothing and take it in. They have someone look everything over for tears, stains, etc. As always, it depends on who reviews your clothes as to how many things you will return home with. An example of what you get in return: I took in 40 pieces of clothing and got a return of $75.00 at the end of the sale.

Consigning is a lot of work and as a single working mom, I find it only worth the hassle if you can find the right conditions under which to consign.

Hope this helps.

I recently began to consign my kids' clothes. They take high end and some Old Navy (unitl they get too much) and I like it. I get 50% of the sale price and after 60 days they go 1/2 off so I get half of that. It's still more than I would get on ebay. People on ebay sell lots and it seems like they only make about .75 per item when you divide the selling price vs. the quantity. With consignement there are no fees and it's more that I would get at a garage sale.

I can pick up my clothes at any time (even before they go 50% off). After 90 days they are the property of the store. I was told to bring fall/winter in around August and spring/summer stuff in around March/April.

I to had not had much luck with Once Upon a Child and I refuse to shop there or take items there. They overprice their stuff and under cut on what they give you for consignment.

So far I have $322 in my account so I alomost have my 10 day hopper pd for- not bad!

I would have to agree about the "Once Upon A Child" store. They give you hardly anything for your items and then way overprice them to sell. I usually save all of my higher end items and list them on ebay as lot. People will pay big dollar for nice boutique and brand name items!!
