Hubby and I are considering taking turns doing one on one trips with each of our kids. I would be first since I just have to see Aladdin one more time before it leaves. :sad1: I would take my younger son since the other 2 each have something exciting to look forward to this summer. I was thinking about May since he will be turning 7 on May 10th. Hojos has our dates for the $59 ET rate.

Any advice for doing a mom and son trip with a turning 7 yr. old?

I need to keep it inexpensive. We've stayed at the Hojos before, but I am wondering if I will feel uncomfortable walking back alone with a little kid at night. Maybe I should choose a closer hotel or the Candy Cane with their shuttle?

Will May be a good time? I would like to see the Remember fireworks, not the Nightastic one.

I would like to surprise him with the trip, just pick him up at school and go. :yay:

I have taken each of my kids on individual trips for their birthdays around age 7. They loved the one-on-one time and personal attention. When my ds turned 7, he got his first ride on CA Screamin and he was thrilled.

I stayed with my dd at the HoJo for her birthday trip, and never had an issue with walking back to the hotel. I have always felt very safe on the walk to and from no matter what time.

Make sure you get a Birthday pin from City Hall so that he gets recognized a lot by CM's. Even parade participants will mouth Happy Birthday to him during the parade. Those one-on-one birthday trips are some of my very best DLR memories. Have a great time!

That sounds so fun! I went down with my 7-turning-8 year old son a couple years ago and we really enjoyed the time together before my husband and 3-turning-4 year old son showed up a couple days later. We met my friend and her kids and we all stayed together at the Hojo, and it was just fine. I would have felt comfortable if it were just us, though.

I think it's better to cross and walk along the busy side of the street late at night though, lots more activity by McDonald's, Mimi's, other hotels along the way. But during the day, quicker to cross at Hojo and walk down the quiet side of the street.

Go for it!
