I’m considering taking Greyhound from Atlanta-Orlando by myself (it’s a lot cheaper) but I’m concerned because I’ve been reading online that the Orlando Greyhound is in a sketchy area of Orlando. I found an option to get on another bus to the Kissimmee Greyhound but is that any better? Is the area around the Kissimmee Greyhound sketchy? After getting off, I’d be taking lynx to the TTC.

How close is the Lynx bus stop to the Greyhound Terminal and what time of the day are you traveling is the first questions I'd want answered from a safety POV.

I live in NYC and find the bus station for Greyhound (Port Authority on West 42nd Street) in a sketchy area but since I know my way around and go there during the daytime it doesn't bother me much; same for Philly and the last time I was there, Boston.

Keep your electronic stuff secure and out of sight for the most part, look confident, don't overwhelm yourself with large amts of luggage and you should be fine.

The nearest lynx stop to the Orlando Greyhound is half a mile and would be at 4:40 AM, and it seems like that area of Orlando is kind of edgy. The Kissimmee Station seems better, because the bus would get there at 6:45 AM and the lynx stop is right next to the Greyhound. I’m leaning heavily toward Kissimmee but I’m not sure.

Given the arrival time and nearness of the public transport stop it's no thinking for me: Kissimmee station it is.

Yes, the Kissimmee Intermodal Center has Greyhound, Lynx, Amtrak, & SunRail all within a block or so. It's not a high-toned area, but it's a much better area than the Orlando Greyhound. There are also several restaurants in the area with acceptable Yelp reviews.

You also have a Lynx bus direct to TTC. From Orlando, I think you'd have to go downtown and change buses (if you could even get a bus at that hour.)

Is it still safe to be alone at 6:45 AM even in Kissimmee waiting for a lynx? (If it helps this would be in several months when sunrise is earlier) I just want to be sure, because if it isn’t safe I definitely would pay the extra $75-$100 to fly into MCO instead.

I've only been in the area a couple of times, and never that early. AFAIK, it does not have a rep as a high-crime area, whereas the Orlando Greyhound station does.

I wouldn't expect it to be deserted, especially on a weekday. There are a number of Lynx routes that originate there, and I think the SunRail commuter station is the only one with a parking garage. SunRail is not as heavily used as commuter trains in other cities, but there are trains every half hour at that time on weekdays. I'm sure there will be others waiting for buses.

Only $100 savings for bus via plane? Fly. The time savings are worth it. Then you use DME to get you to/from the airport.

Of course I don't know what your financial situation is but personally I'd be happy to pay an extra $100 to avoid riding 6+ hours on a bus to a sketchy area of town. A 90 minute flight into a nice safe airport followed by a guaranteed coach ride to your hotel (assuming you're staying on site) is the much more appealing option.

I think its safe to say that Greyhound terminals are all "sketchy".......even the one in Suffolk County, NY (now closed) was, how shall we say?....not prime real estate
