Hello,

We are considering the purchase of a class C motor home. We are new to camping my mantra has always been "princesses don't camp". The problem is our "beasties" our puppy beastie has been very ill and we don't want him in a kennel anymore. Our kitten beastie is high maintenance (not the least bit spoiled ;)). Also, I thought it would be cheaper having them with us rather than paying kennell fees or having a pet sitter.

I was wonder about fuel costs. How much is the average fill, how is the mileage? We are Canadian so any Ontarians out there for Canadian prices as well as US prices would be great.

TIA

The bigger the Beast the more it eats, we had a 30' Class "A" that got about 8 mpg, it had a 90 gallon tank. We now have a 5th wheel pulled by a Diesel and get about 12 mpg. It depends how much you would use it to recover your costs. We were just looking at a Rental in the orlando area and it looks like we can rent cheaper than pulling our beast from Texas..

Can't help you much with the costs for a class "C" but I can tell you last year we pulled a 17ft tt and it cost us $ 425 US from Oakville to Disney and back. Head winds into Erie killed us the first day, after that it got better

We have a 31 ft class C, and on the Ford v10 chassis, I'd say that around 8 mpg is a good average. Wish I could say it would get more, but that is our experience.:confused3

We have a 36' Class A on a Ford Chassis with a V10 and we get 8 mpg (US Gallons) towing our Saturn.

I do not think so, there should be better.

CLASS-C MOTORHOMES:

How much is the average fill,
. . . they go from about 26-gal to 55-gal capacity
. . . most I know of are in the 26 gal range
. . . so, about $100 per fill

how is the mileage?
. . . no RV's are good
. . . mileage is 6-9 miles per gallon
. . . if you estimate 8 mpg, you are close
. . . this is a number you usually can't see on RV websites

We are Canadian so any Ontarians out there for Canadian prices as well
. . . Canadian gas is too expensive
. . . put enough gas in to get into New York State to fill-up
. . . prices for gas are about $3.59 (except VW which is much higher) *
. . . figure just under 1300 miles one-way
. . . a good guess is $1,200 round trip

* West Virginia has high gas taxes, so fill-up before or after that state.

My DH and I have been thinking of buying a class c too. We have only looked at them on dealer lots, but we are really drawn to the Winnebago View, owners report it gets about 16-18 mpg highway, and at 24ft long is easier to handle.
I have joined a yahoo group of View/Navion owners and after reading it for a few months, it seems they are all really happy with their rvs, esp those who downsized from longer class A rvs.

we own a "super c", it is diesel and on our last trip to florida (from wisconsin) our lowest mpg was 6.3. the highest was 8.8 mpg. that was towing a 20' trailer with a golf cart and a vw jetta on it. the average 8.19 mpg and that was from mid december to mid january.

our TOTAL cost for fuel for the trip was $952. yes, that was our total cost from milwaukee, wi to orlando. we also drove the rv over to lake wales. then back to orlando and then back home. this was dec 2010 through jan 2011.

our highest cost fill ups were: $185, $148, $176, $120 and $111. there were a few other times that we just topped of the fuel because the prices were good. we keep track of everything-so i just checked the book in the mh.

we have gotten better mileage but that is with nothing behind. we almost always have a trailer behind us.
