Considering getting the twins 1st haircut at MK barber shop *multi choice poll*

Our 18 month old twin girls have very curly hair. We have no clue where it came from since neither me or Dh (or our parents or grandparents) have curly hair so we are totally clueless as to the special haircutting needs for curly hair.

Dh read in the Unofficial Guide about how special they make a 1st haircut at the Main Street Barber Shop. He's really wanting us to get their hair trimmed on our upcoming trip.

Should we or should we not? I'm looking to hear good and bad experiences from others who have been there and done that.

Another question. . . should we do it 1st thing upon entering the park or could we wait until afternoon.

My girls got pixie dust in their hair at the barber shop last year. It was a TOTAL mess and the color ended up all over DH, me, the stroller, everyon'e clothes, etc. BUT, the two babies before us were getting their first haircuts and it was SO cute! They gave them a little certificate, plastered them with cool stickers, gave them the hair in a little Disney World pouch, and best of all, they got mickey ears with "1st Haircut" embroidered on the back! Very sweet. We went first thing and the line definitely piled up behind us. (Basically the only line we saw the entire time because it was January and not crowded at all) so I would plan on going early!

p.s. When we were there, they only accepted cash. They have an old fashioned cash register and that's it!

They will accept credit card - we have always charged out haircuts.

We waited until the girls had hair long enough & had their first ahircuts at Disney so that it would be Magical & it was! Maria & Michael there are fantastic! We got the hats & the certificates & poses with the bug scissors. The Quartet came & serendaded each of them. It was wonderful.

Now the girls and dh wait to get their haircut there every trip!

A funny story ~ a couple of years ago dh was talked into getting blue goop with confetti in his hair with the rational that who knows him down there? We ran into his brother & family a half hour later! 'cool do'! It was so funny!

We will be getting DS first cut there in November. He will be almoat 14mths. He could use one now, but when it is combed and parted it is fine.

We got DS's first haircut there when he was about 9 months old (BOY did he need it by then) We purposely waited for our disney trip and it was worth it. I have video and the most wonderful magical pictures of a one time experience in the most wonderful place on earth. They didn't give him a great cut, but who cares....his hair grew out quickly and I will always have the memories.

We went on our way out of the park for a mid-morning nap....about 11:30...we only had to wait for one other person to have thier hair done. (DD waited to meet characters which are right outside)

I wouldn't worry about first thing. We have gone two years in a row in the later afternoon, but before 5:00. Of course, Disney magic has kept us from standing in lines, but no one was there either year. Both kids got cuts, DD got pixie dust and kids were waiting for pixie dust as we left. I'd wait, as I think those 'in the know' get there early, and others just straggle by.

We are planning to have DD's first haircut done this month! We took DS when he was 2 and it was such a blast! Tinker Bell even doused those who were not getting a haircut with Pixie Dust! Unfortunately, it wasn't his first haircut.
DD has curly to wavy hair. We are just getting it trimmed, as mommy likes to put her hair into pigtails and such!
We cannot wait!

I voted for going 1st thing in the morning, unless you don't care about getting the ears that say "first haircut" on them, which I thought were cute. ETA: I have heard that sometimes they run out of the ears so if you wait until later in the day you run the risk of them not having any more on hand to give to your child.

We did DD's first haircut in MK and thought it was great. She loved the "first haircut ears" the certificate, stickers, pixie dust etc. Micheal did her haircut and did a great job. It was during an early Feb. trip she had it done first thing in the morning. She had to wait for just one person before it was her turn. I so wanted DS to also have his first haircut at MK. But he was born with alot more hair than DD and it grew fast so we had to do his at home. However our local KidsCut also gave him a certificate and envelope with locks of hair.

Definatly worth it. The kids will love it , and you will always have the memory of it. Remember they probably have the best experience with keeping kids calm while doing it too. If I take my son anywhere else he screams .

Sorry, that is not what I meant. More than one child per day gets the ears! I have heard that sometimes they have a limited supply and if you wait until the afternoon you run the risk of not getting them because they have handed that days supply out already. Sorry for the confusion!

I think it was $14 when we had ds' done a couple of years ago. Very reasonable IMO and well worth the it considering how well they entertained him during the experience.

I can't decide how to vote, so I will give you my two cents here. I love the Barbershop and have had my little one's first haircut here before. It was so special and she has the cute certificate and special "first haircut" ears. She was a bit nervous and the ladies were great with her. We're planning to have my new little one's haircut there in 6 days!

The only thing that makes me unsure how to answer this question for you though is the curly hair aspect. I, too, have curly hair. (My girls got their Daddy's stick straight hair!) It's hard to find someone that knows how to cut curly hair well. So, just a little warning for you on that.

As far as when to go, we went early in the morning, and it was already busy. And apparently the family in front of us was getting EVERYONE a new 'do! So, with little ones who don't have a lot of patience, that can be frustrating. Don't know when we'll go this time, as I've heard the afternoon might not be quite as busy. We'll see!

I think $14 is a great price with all things considered! How late is the barber shop open? Does it keep the same hours as the park for the day?

Both DS's received haircuts by Michael & it was great.

As a curly girl myself you need to know that cutting 1/2 inch off curly hair can make it shrink 3 inches & turn loose curls into tight ones. It's all about the "weight" of the hair.

Start off only having her ends skimmed to see how the hair reacts.
