Thank you for all your replies - really helpful and a lot to think about!
I can see us at some point in the future having 2 contracts - one MK area (probs Poly direct) and one EP (BWV resale) - to split up our usual 2 week stay..this initial potential BWV one is just to get us started before we take the big purchase leap into a direct MK one.

We are renting for our trip in May this year, and whilst it is handy it also has its drawbacks (especially with us travelling from UK) on not being able to cancel/modify dates at all. Our flights came out after the 11 month window and dates were a bit off than what had been expected, so actually lost a bit money having to change our hotel reservations even by a few days. Would just be ideal I think at this point owning some DVC and being able to have that flexibility.
