First of all let me say, I will probably finance directly through Disney. Is it possible to still get VWL? I know that AKV and BLT are the new ones. Will I have to buy these or is it possible to get VWL and finance through Disney?

How many points is average? I noticed on the website that they were referencing 160 points if you buy at AKV. This was just an ad they were running.

Do you pick your own use year or is it tied to the time of year you make the purchase?

I am getting a package from DVC, but have not received it yet.

Also, Is there a link to a points chart somewhere on the DIS?

yes. the guides are trained to sell AKV and BLT but if you stick to your guns and are willing to waitlist, you can buy any DVC resort directly. (but be aware that it costs more - no incentives - and ends sooner - in 2042 - than AKV.)

160 pts was the minimum purchase for a while. it has something to do with buying enough pts to allow you to trade out for a week through II for another timeshare. OTOH, many people buy resale and own less than 100 pts. it just depends on what fits your vacation plans...

if you buy more than 160 pts, you should probably break the contract up into smaller units - in case you decide to sell some of your points later.

they will offer you whatever UY they are selling at the time. if you want a specific UY, they will sell it to you (unless it is sold out, in which case you would have to waitlist to get it.)

here is more info on UY:

Thanks - I see the points charts now. And that is a good point about older resorts like VWL ending sooner. And the loss of incentives. Hadn't thought of that.

VWL may cost more, and there may not be incentives, but if you want to stay at VWL, you're going to want to buy there.

It's one of the smallest DVC resorts, and is already difficult to get at 7 months during holiday times and much of the fall. It's only going to get more difficult as DVC's membership continues to grow.

Personally, I'd rather spend a little more and be assured that I can stay at the resort I want, than save a little up front and be worried and/or frustrated when I want to make a reservation.

You seem committed to going through Disney, but be aware that VWL is going to be much cheaper on the resale market.
