Considering BLT Resale Purchase

See you on the ROFR thread next week 😉

Especially since you're looking at dvcforless🤣🤣
EsAlso, just wanted to give a shout out to dvc for less and @rferrar1. That website and the data it provides are truly amazing.

I'll also come clean - I put in offers on three other contracts last night. They were all basically declined (or wouldn't come down much from the list price). I was like, I am only doing this if it is a really great deal, and dvc for less was just an amazing resource in that respect. I feel like I am learning so much about the resale market and this process.

All that said, I am really going to put the breaks on this - there actually aren't really good deals on BLT Oct UY contracts right now, and none of the sellers seem interested in budging much from their list price. It is pretty interesting to see just how much variance there can be in the resale market. I'm sure I am going to continue to watch the listings as they come up, but I think the more time goes on, the more patient I am likely to be.

We are VGF owners and have used our points for our last two trips at BLT. I am also stalking resale BLT contracts with an Oct. use year. We aren’t really looking to buy until DD20 finishes college in 2 years, but I still check. It does stink bringing up BLT with all the listings and watching them all disappear once I hit Oct. Hopefully, you’ll find the right one once you are ready.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom spring break 2024. My kids (7 and 9) loved it. The BLT was fine, they had a lot of games going on. We spent most days at the CR pool. Yes, it is a little blah since there is no theming. I wish they’d throw a monorail themed slide or something on it. Besides that we really enjoyed the pool. It was big enough that it didn’t feel crowded even on April break midday visits. My DD7 went on the slide over and over for about an hour. It was great because I could stay in the pool and have her in my sight at all times. Not like a lot of the pools where the kids disappear going on the slide.

We enjoy the food especially being able to mobile from Steakhouse 71. Dh had the burger and I had the chopped salad multiple for lunch with mobile order.

I love MK and the views from BLT. We are usually short on points so we haven’t had a theme park view yet. But in the morning or evening, I’ll take the elevator up to the floor and just gaze out the window watching the monorail and boats going to and from MK.

Not a big deal to some, but for my now 10 year old- CR has the best MK resort arcade. Most other MK area arcades are pretty small. The kids also enjoy all the games in the BLT courtyard.

We booked BLT for Thanksgiving week(got really lucky stalking around the 7m window) Dh and the kids were very happy to hear I got it! We also love Copper Creek but the walk to from MK after the fireworks on a 10/10 night sealed the deal for BLT. I have never seen so many people at the boats/monorail/buses. I practically skipped back to BLT after seeing that madness.

Thank you - appreciate all your thoughts. I like your knowledge about the arcade too - that is something my boys would definitely like, although I also always try to steer them away from the arcade because I'm like, we didn't come to Disney to play video games - I'm sure that's a losing game in the long run though.

I also feel your pain when you pull up all those BLT contracts, see some really good price points, and then limit to October. I see some with other UY contracts and I'm like, man, if only that were October, I'd be willing to go up to list price. That said, I get a little more hopeful pulling up the inactive listings on dvc for less and seeing some of the Oct contracts that have been put on the market in the past - seems like it is just a bit of waiting game for the right contract and deal.

Is the pool at CR just as bland, I haven't seen it yet?

I heard really good things about the Steakhouse 71 smash burger, cant wait to try it next year! I def need to do more exploring at the CR, never seen the arcade either.

Alright, I've got a sort of crazy idea. Our 7/12-7/19 trip is booked using DVC Rental Store. There are two stays - one that is 7/12-7/16 in AKL and one that is 7/16-7/19 at RIV. I paid just under $1,500 for each of them (deluxe studios, not 1 BRs). Should I cancel one or more of these, borrow my 2025 points, use my welcome home stay to try to a split stay PIT/BLT in 1 BR Villas? Actually looks like I could get a 1 BR Villa, preferred view, without using the welcome home stay for BLT, but would need it for Poly. Don't know whether I could get it, but I could try. I'd lose 50% of rental $$, and get 50% of it back via a credit that would have to be used in the next 24 months, I believe. I suppose I could cancel just the AKL stay, do 2 nights BLT, 2 nights PIT, and keep the RIV rental. That feels a little less painful, but 3 resorts in one trip is a bit more hectic. We could probably swing it.

(As an aside, if you're paying attention to this thread (https://www.disboards.com/threads/i...various-incentives-discounts-correct.3968198/), I'm all of a sudden considering whether an add-on Poly or RIV purchase might make more sense than a BLT resale purchase. Will probably start a new thread on that at some point if continue to get serious about it.)

I couldn't leave money on the table, nope. I would keep my DVC rental. But this a personal thing for me and a huge part of why I became DVC I couldn't stomach the cancellation policies on rentals.

Points that are yours can always be banked forward if not used.

Personally I wouldn't want to lose that money or borrow so much after taking Magical Beginnings. You will be playing catch up for the life of your contracts.

I would not lose half of my money either personally, whole point of dvc is to save in my mind

Yeah, alright. I think you've talked me out of it already. It would also feel like a bit of a wasted welcome home stay. I think better move is to visit/tour PIT/VGF/BLT while I'm there. Won't be as good as an actual stay, but better than the knowledge I currently have.
It's hard because each resort is truly unique and comes with pros and cons. Even though you aren't sleeping at a MK resort you will get a good sense of whether or not you can see you and your family enjoying each of them.

You have some time before July. I would study YouTube. Not just DVC villa room tours, but about the overall resort amenities. Look at what each QS is serving up and how the seating is or watch the walks from CR to MK, GF to MK, and Poly to TTC. You can even see how the fireworks and water pageant look from each location. Not trying to ruin any of the magic, but there's a ton of content out there that you could never cram into one night sleeping there.

I was fortunate to have stayed at all of the MK resorts prior to joining DVC so I knew which worked best for me personally. You really can't go wrong with any of them because the dining and shopping are all a quick walk, monorail, or boat ride away and you can most likely book another monorail resort under 7 months depending on season and room type if you want to change it up.

I think if most of us could we'd own at several resorts 🤣🤣 its hard to choose! If i was rich would own at BCV, riv, BLT, akv, etc 🤣🤣 Each of them has something amazing to offer!

There's so many factors, overall value (low maintenance fees) where you actually like to be and would be a proud owner, resale restrictions food etc. There is no one perfect resort. Don't drive yourself crazy over this and that, there will always be a resort where you like something better than another.
