Considering a solo trip

Hi All,

I have a boardwalk view studio booked for Oct 13-20. Due to a lot of animosity in my family right now, and the fact that I've separated from my hubby, I'm considering making it a solo trip. I've never done this before. This will also be my first trip to the F&W Festival and I don't want anyone to spoil it for me by bringing all of their complaints from home with them. (I dearly love my family, but they are all disagreeing right now).

I'm a little nervous about going to wdw alone. Those of you who have gone solo, could you give me some support? Encouragement?

I wouldn't want to go solo every time, but I can't think of anything more perfect than a solo trip during Food and Wine Festival. Especially with the Boardwalk view studio. I did this a couple years ago - but without the boardwalk view ( I just had a standard view studio.) And October is such a beautiful time of year at WDW. Definitely book some food seminars & wine tastings. Make some reservations at your favorite restaurants. Two of my favorite places to dine alone are Via Napoli & Le Chefs De France. The waiters were so friendly and attentive. I didn't feel alone. And take time just strolling through the World Showcase to sample different foods.

Outside of the Food and Wine Festival, one of the nicest things about traveling solo is the ability to be spontaneous and the ability to do whatever YOU want. One day I had a Plan A and Plan B - I woke up and didn't feel like doing either, so created a Plan C. A lot of my friends thought I was crazy to go to Disney by myself without my kids, but I had the most wonderful time. I'm sorry you're dealing with turmoil in your life, but what better opportunity to spoil yourself a little with a trip to Disney where you can do exactly what you want all the time? I hope you have a wonderful time!

I'd do it for sure . A solo trip sounds like fun to me . I am in no position to do something like that now . But went to universal basically a solo trip as I went with my mom and aunt but we had diffrent agendas really we just shared a room . I went to the parks and clubs by myself and I had the time of my life .

Going solo is the opportunity to do extra things that other people might consider a waste of park time. I like to do the tours, particularly the ones that go behind the scenes.

I also like taking pictures of my food before I eat it, to post here, without the family making fun of me.

Oh, I hope you go and enjoy your trip! I have done 2 solo trips and absolutely loved them. I did tours that I never get to do otherwise. I especially liked Wild Africa Trek at AK, Keys to the Kingdom at MK, and the Behind the Seeds at Epcot. I sat on the balcony with coffee or wine when I wanted to relax, took a short nap if I was tired and didn't worry about pleasing anyone but me. I did find dining alone a little uncomfortable but even that got easier when I read a book on my iPad. I had planned another solo this year but it ended up being with others, which was fun, but I rather regret not having my solo this year. I hope to make a solo trip an annual event. If you have BW view during F&W then you will be guaranteed extra fun and great weather. And don't miss MNSSHP. Watching the people in their great costumes and seeing the Halloween parade and fireworks is priceless. And make a stop at TOTWL one evening to view MK fireworks from there! Have a blast!

Solo trips are as much fun as a family trip!
Seriously...
Like PPs said it's an opportunity to do things you never had to do before.
Especially F&W festival time? Oh my... I would have a total ball with that... Man oh man.

I asked DH once if I can go there during F&W by myself and left the kids at home with him. He looked at me as if I'd grown horns on my head...


Are you a spa kinda person? If you are, try to book a massage or something just for you.
Do the fancy tastings or dinners offered during F&W... That sounded like fun isn't it? They had the chocolate and dessert one last year.
OR do Party for the Senses!

You'll have fun no worries.
And the CMs are generally kind to solo diners, they know how uncomfortable sometimes for people to do so.

Enjoy your time alone! Even if the circumstance isn't the best, hopefully this will be a good break for you.

I always go solo to WDW and have a ball!!! As PP have said, it's an opportunity for you do to what you want to do when you want to do it. Last year, I went solo to F&W to celebrate my birthday. I had a great time. I did CRT for my birthday breakfast , Victoria & Albert's for my birthday dinner, enjoyed the F&W festival, and did MVMCP for the first time. The whole weekend was a treat and something I won't quickly forget.

Go, go, go! I go with friends and family a lot. But it involves pleasing so many personalities because I want everyone to have a good time. My solo trips have turned into my favorite trips. If I wake up and feel like staying in bed I do it. If I feel like going to Tutto Gusto for a piece of cheese and a glass of wine...I do it. I did the Wild Africa Trek last year and it's well worth the price. On Wed. afternoon at Jiko they have a wine/cheese tasting that I enjoyed. At Saana they have lunch with an animal caretaker. I think it may be on Wed. and Sat. at noon. Well worth it. These are things that no one seemed interested in so I went solo and loved it. I hope you make the trip. Food and Wine is the perfect time for a solo trip. You won't be solo for long. I predict you'll make a few new friends along the way.

Solo trips are just as wonderful as family trips for all the reasons everyone has mentioned. I took my first solo trip in late October 2009. Rented points to stay in a savannah view studio at Kidani. It was fabulous! Looking forward to solo trip #2 this fall. This time I'm staying at BLT lakeview studio. Planning to spend most of my time at MK, Epcot and on my balcony.

It's a great opportunity to take time to do the things you have always wanted to do whenever you want to do them. I still usually sketch out some kind of plan for least crowded park days and a few ADRs but am always ready to switch to Plan B even if I don't have one.

The first time I did this I was kind of rethinking on my flight down if I really was doing the right thing. Didn't take long to realize that I was!

I haven't done a solo trip yet, but am hoping to next May. I usually go to WDW with friends once a year and am looking forward to doing a second trip every year on my own!! My list of to-do's includes a Keys to the Kingdom tour and checking out different resorts.

Go for it. I've done many solo trips. I can often be found reading a book on the second floor of the train station overlooking Main St, Magic Kingdom or doing the same in the Grand Floridian & Wilderness Lodge lobbies. Love it there.

I've done lots of solo trips, and really enjoy it. One thing that's nice is that CMs tend to be more chatty with a solo, and I've had some very interesting conversations.

I have gone solo a couple of times. I enjoy going with family and friends but I actually find myself looking forward to another solo trip. Especially for a Disney geek it is great to be able to spend your time however you want. I will say, however, that my solo trips were all pretty short - three or four days. Personally I am not sure i would go solo for a week or more.

Thanks for the encouragement Jean. I might just pm you about that meet up. It would be fun to meet another who understands the love of DVC ownership. Fiona

I just got back a week ago from my 3rd (or 4th solo) WDW trip, and had so much fun that I stayed a week longer than I had planned. I've done a lot of solo traveling other places also -- it's great! Fun to go with family/friends also, but solo works really well at WDW. Your own schedule, pace, plans, food, money saving (or splurging!), decisions . . . . . . Went on some side trips also (I was in FL for a month, had my own car, and stayed on property about two weeks, and off two weeks). Hopefully will get a trip report up in the near future -- link will be added to my siggy when I get going on it. (I came home with over 1700 photos and videos, and over 500 Photopass pics -- lots of sorting to do).

By all means, go and have a super fun time!

I took my first solo trip Sept 2003 and have never looked back. I have gone in between times with my family, but most of my trips are solo. I even went to Disneyland solo.
My husband does not like Disney, my son love Disney but has a wife and 2 children and really cant afford to go as often as I go. My daughter does not like Disney either. So it was either go solo or not go at all . I love going by myself. On these trips I will try and book a tour or do something I've not done before. I usually eat most of my meals at counter service restaurants but always book 1 sit down meal, and I almost always book the tea at the GF.
My grand-daughter is 5 and I am looking forward to taking her on some of my trips.

Go for it! The spa idea sounds great and the F&W solo would be fantastic. I was always self-conscious about a solo trip. One trip, DH got a case of food poisoning and was sick in bed so I went out solo -why sit in the room while he was sleeping. Went to DTD, EPCOT, explored different resorts and it was just my time and so relaxing.

I work with a guy who is not married and has been doing solo trips for years and he loves it.

Less standing on line for alot of the rides as a single rider! Eat, sleep and go what or where you want, when you want. Time to think of yourself for a change! Enjoy.
