Considering a Solo Trip, Iffy About my Age.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if I could bamboozle all of you with questions concerning solo trips to disney, and as to the appropriate age for such trips, and what would be too young. I am currently 18, and I will be 19 if I go.

First off, a little background info: Originally, last year, three friends and I were planning on a 2-3 month trip across Australia, New Zealand and Japan this fall. Then two of my travel buddies decided to drop out of the trip. So it was just myself and one other travel buddy for a long time, and we were going ahead with the plans until this January, when the final friend dropped out of the trip, for many reasons (Time being the main reason), which was very understandable. I suggested that we could possibly do a shorter (comparatively) trip to WDW, which I know she has always wanted to go to (and I've only been once seven years ago). Unfortunately, she is unsure if she will be able to go at the moment, and has admitted she will most likely not be able to.

I am not at all sure if I will be making a WDW trip in the next while (if I did go it would be the last week of Nov - the first week of Dec, or sometime in Jan), but if I was going, would 19 be too young for a solo trip in any case? On the one hand, I did spend the fall months living on my own in the Yukon (for art school), but on the other hand, I've never traveled solo before.

I say go for it. The solo trips are the best and I think 19 is not to young to go on a solo trip. Have a blast!

My first solo trip was this past Feb1-3. It was two weeks before my 23rd birthday. I had fun, and talked with people on buses, boats, in queues, etc. There were many people I met that said "Good for you for going by yourself and doing what you want!"

I talked to a lot of CMs and one of the boat drivers gave me this card after talking to him during a ride from Grand Floridian to Poly to MK.

I don't know if I would do a solo trip again, unless there were DISers to meet up with. I did have a great time though.

My first solo trip was in 2006 and I had just turned 19 the month before. I had a blast! Since then I've taken 4 other solo trips with the 5th being this coming May. There may be a few moments where you feel lonely but that quickly fades. There are always great CM's who strike up conversations. I'm like you...I have friends who want to go places but for some reason our trips never happen. My outlook is I'm not going to sit around and wait for them...go have fun!!! If you're comfortable doing it on your own, I say just go for it! The only caveat I would give you is that you might want to look into if there are any age restrictions on booking a room or renting a car (if you were planning to do that). Even if there's no age restriction, you might be dealing with additional costs based on your age. It stinks, and I know it can happen because I've lived through it myself!

The rooms won't be a problem (need to be over 18). If you're under 25 though, the extra charge for renting a car is $50/day for most places. That's why I chose to solo Disney, the buses and boats drive me around.

That's good, because I will not be renting a car. Just good ol' disney transportation for me!

We could set up a Dismeet, cuz I'm a 20yr old who's had the same problem. Start planning a trip, get all excited, and then my friends all bail for one reason or another...

If my DD was 18-19 and decided to go solo to WDW, I would feel good about it. I can't think of any place safer for a young adult to travel alone to. Go, have fun, and tell us all about it when you get back!!

What she said! What better place to go where you won't have to worry about transportation, food choices, activities, or "sticking out" as a tourist?

Chiming in late but I also say go for it! The key is your level of comfort with traveling by yourself and I can't think of a better destination for a young person to experience the freedom of being solo.

I have gone to disney many times by myself. I have been in the parks alone when I was 15 and over no problem and then in the resorts when I turned 18 (2 months after my birthday). I have never had problems with anything when I go, I also know the resort like the back of my hand but that's beside the point. I would say to go for it, if you don't you will only regret it later.
