Which would be harder to do? HH as home resort - getting a studio at OKW in late April? Or OKW as home resort - getting a HH studio in late July? Trying to decide is so hard. I keep second guessing myself. Thanks

Getting a HH studio in July with OKW as a home resort would be harder.HH in the summer(June,July and August)is harder to book with only the 7 month window.
OKW is a much larger resort, so you would have a better chance of getting a studio at OKW in late April(unless it happens to be Easter week) at the 7 month booking window.:D

Can't answer your question as we have never stayed at HH or even tried (yet!!). Noticed your from Wakefield.....hi neighbor!!

We bought resale at OKW so if you have any questions about that I'd be happy to help......

I recall once I could not get a studio or 1 br for the end of March at OKW........but I tried to book it just 2 months out!!

Can't find the facts and figures but HH has only a small amount of studios. OKW has lots more. If HH in July is what you want, then I would go for that as your home resort. If anyone were to have a studio in April it would be OKW; esp. at 7 months out.

To get HH for summer, you basically need to own there. Early june and late August are possibilities if you call exactly at the 7 month window. OKW can be difficult too if it's Easter. If you're main goal is HH, buy there. If you main goal is WDW, buy there. Even if you can't get that rare HH visit through DVC, there are always other altenatives.

Or buy an OKW resale contract and then do a HH add on. If you are going to do both every year, you'll want more than 150 points anyway. If you are going to do one or the other every year, you will probably still be cutting close with just 150 points.

Do some point calculations. See what falls out.

This approach has some merit though last I heard only 2 use years were available from DVC at HH.

Waving out my window to Rosemary!!! (I'm in Greenwood.)

Thanks everyone for your quick responses. Haven't decided yet. I think I will have to draw names out of a hat. LOL Janis

Dean,

You are right, but small contracts at HH often come up via resale. And they don't sell too fast, so if he is patient he should be able to buy a HH resale and have the seller cover closing costs.

But Buzz, it completely depends on how often you plan on using your WDW resort and your HH resort. If you are going to regularly vacation both places, I think you'll want two contracts.

I have talked to many DVC members over the years and one of the few times I had someone sell because they were unhappy with the program was when he could not get a two bedroom at HH in the summer with his OKW points in the 7 month window.

My recommendation would be to consider the HH resale if you plan on going there on a regular basis. More than likely it will be less expensive than OKW. However, they don't come up quite as often as OKW due to the smaller resort size.

Once you decide, call your broker and have them put you on a "to call" list. Timing can be crucial with the resales.

Kind regards,
Shontell

We purchased a HH resale just for the very reason....getting a reservation for the summer months....that you are asking about. Since becoming members we have stayed at HH on points 3 different times....all were in the spring, our kids are not in school yet, but we know that we will need the 11 month window when they are for our summer stays at HH. We have stayed at OKW twice on points---Feb and Oct, didn't have a problem booking 7 months out or later. We stayed at VWL once on points and did not have a problem, this too was in Feb. Neither of the Feb. stays were over Presidents' Day. As others have mentioned the size and number units at OKW makes it a better possibililty except at some extremely high volume times, Easter, Christmas, or the 4th of July, than HH over the 3 summer months when school is out. We have no regrets about having HH as our home or the $56 dollar a point resale that we got back in late 1998. With HH DVC you get 2 totally different experiences---the lovely beach/beachhouse atomsphere and the relaxation that the heavily wooded resort gives you.

I called yesterday and a contract should be arriving for - HH. Thanks for all the feedback. My sister lives in NC, so she can join us during the summer.

Oh, and thanks for the idea of buying a 2nd Resale!!!!!!! Shhhhh!! Don't tell my DH!! LOL
