Considering 1st time II exchange - is it already too late for FL April '08?

Thinking of trying our first II exchange and hope to visit either Captiva/Sanibel or Naples/Marco. Job duties force me to fix the week DH & I can travel (3/29 - 4/6/08) but if I don't specify which resort in those locations would we still have a shot? I know nothing about the 15 or so resorts available through II - just what I have read on the DVC member site and searches on this forum. Are there resorts in the collection that I should try to avoid?

Many thanks,

That is a VERY difficult area to exchange in to and one of the highest demand weeks for that area. I'd say your chances of success above 2 months out through II to be about 1-2% at most. You're also starting late (less than 12 mo) which further reduces your chance of succcess. You might have a chance at off season but I did a search on II the next 13 months and saw no units listed at all compared to a number of DVC units. If you can put in the request and ride it out until a couple of weeks prior to the trip you MIGHT get something but likely not on the islands. But it never hurts to try so put in the request and see what happens if you can wait, you can always cancel later if you make other arrangements.

A direct exchange or renting your points and paying cash are likely your best options.

Thanks so much, Dean. I'm not sure I will be comfortable not knowing until that close to trip time, so I'll give it a try but also investigate a direct deal.

Appreciate the advice,

IF you will accept a little further north in the Tampa/Clearwater area or at Ft. Meyers possibly inland there are a couple of units listed but not for the time you want. There was one Sanibel week listed this AM (nothing last night) for August. You will find more availability and generally better resorts available on the other coast.

I have a related question.

Last night I discovered I could trade to Carlton Club in London. I am seriously thinking about calling Disney Monday and trying to do this for either Christmas or New Years week. I wonder how successful I will be?

(I already have a back up reservation so if I am not successful I can just stay at the back up!)

I would love to stay there in London. I hope you are able to get that exchange!

Carol, are you talking Club Sunterra at Carlton Court? If so, I think your chances through II are extremely small. I haven't seen this come up even off season on general searches and I've looked for London. If you could trade through RCI, I think you'd have a better chance as they have 4 options there and more availability. You might want to talk to the Dial an Exchange people as they get a lot of european availability and will work with any owner.

Dean
Thanks
I have never heard of "Dial an Exchange" I will do some looking around.

As I said it's not a biggie. I have a Marriott room booked using Marriott points right now (Have you seen the $ vs the Pound... I need a "free" hotel LOL!)

You're likely better off with the Marriott room for 150K points than trying to get an exchange anyway, esp if you have Country Hall scheduled.
