Consider camping next August - will we die of heat stroke?

We usually camp at the Fort in July in a popup with air. I wouldn't go without it. At the parks, you are in and out of air all day so it isn't bad, but to sleep at night when it is that hot is hard for us to take. We just got back from a 10 day trip to Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Little Rock, and St. Louis. It was 95 - 105 everyday. Nights in the camper were ok with the air, but it just wasn't like camping at the Fort, you just can't beat it. Good luck.

my sister and DBL went for two weeks and my daughter and her husband and two kids camped for the same two weeks over to FtWC and it was almost to the penny the same price and we in the resort POP had free dining and they did not plus they had to buy groceries. and to your question on being hot in August--yes it will be and very humid

We are a family of 5 and don't fit into a single hotel room, so for us camping is a much cheaper option. It will cost us $2,000 less to camp than it would to stay at POP with 2 rooms or ASMu in a suite. It actually would be cheaper for us to camp and BUY the dining plan than to stay at a value and get it for free. The cost all works out differently depending on your family size and needs. :)

there are usually 5 of us when we go to disney. we stay at port orleans, they have rooms where you all can stay in the same room. we love it there.
i hsve never camped before, but we usually go at thanksgiving, a few years ago we had a really good deal and went in august. it was sooo hot i felt we wasted a trip because we (i mean kids) couldnt stand it because it was so hot. even the shops were very stuffy. i could not imagine being that hot (over 100 degrees every day) at the parks and then going to a camp and it being hot there too. :crazy2:although, we eat at the trails end buffet and have seen the campground and it does seem to be a very good campground with lots of shade. it is very nice there.

Don't bother feeling sorry for us campers at FW. Some of us may be "roughing" it no more than anyone in the hotels. It's no hotter at FW than anywhere in FL. Very few would not be using air (and that's a personal choice for whatever reason). We love it there (and many other places where we use campgrounds) and would not trade our choice for vacations (traveling) for any of the hotels there - prefer our comfy bed, privacy, bathroom and amenities, our own "germs",etc.;)

i would love to have an rv and be able to have our own bed. i would love to camp that way. the campground is a beautiful place. my family never camped growing up,this is a world i know nothing about.:thumbsup2

I am a Florida native and there is NO WAY you want to be down here even at night without Air con. At night it can be in the 80s and plus the humdity. Ft W is in central Florida so many times you won't even have a breeze and also this is a rainy month. If you can figure out a way to fix an ac in your camper I would say a vacation in Florida in August is fine if you can deal with the heat and enjoy spending time at the pool (please wear sunscreen, lobster campers are hard for us to look at :rotfl2: )
Another option might be the value resorts new suites, some of them come with kitchens etc or even check out the FT W cabins. During some months they have pretty good deals. If you are on a budget, what I would recommend is getting a recommendation to a local grocery store I would suggest Publix (quality food and clean-I know some people do walmart also) have a meal plan and go get your groceries there. The cabins have a grill so you could even have a steak dinner. Eating at disney is a huge expense so if you have a cabin or a value suite where you can save on meals that will help your over all budget.
