I want some advice from my fellow conservatives. I got the Sony eBook reader(digital book similar to the Kindle) for Christmas from my family. It comes with 100 free downloads from the classics section. I have already downloaded The Federalist Papers :thumbsup2 and am looking for some guidance on other classic books.

What classic books would you recommend? Any free advice would be very helpful. Here is the classic book page to give you an idea of the books they offer:

http://ebookstore.sony.com/search?filters=60&sortName=P_Number_Of_Sales_30_Days&sortDirection=1

I guess I have a lot of reading to do!

I want to read Common Sense by Thomas Paine.

I also can't wait to crack open my Christmas present:

Hi, y'all--I'm a very loyal lurker on the Conservative threads since before the late lamented election, but never felt witty enough to post.

But--#1Hockeymom--it's my anniversary, too! Happy Anniversary! Ours is the 27th--we passed the "married longer than not" mark last year.

Anyway, you all have made me laugh, cry, and think a lot in the last few months! Thanks!

And P.S. all you Debbies: I will be at WDW the first week of February, too, to celebrate my birthday. I'll be on the look out for lime green Mickey heads;)

Sarah Palin's Daughter Gives Birth
Relative Says Baby, Bristol Are 'Doing Well'

The 18-year-old daughter of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has given birth in Alaska to a son.

People magazine reports that Bristol Palin gave birth to Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston on Sunday. He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces.

Relative Colleen Jones told the magazine the baby is fine and Bristol is "doing well." Jones is the sister of Bristol's grandmother.

The father is Levi Johnston, a former hockey player at Alaska's Wasilla High School. He has said he and Bristol plan to marry.

Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, created a stir in September by announcing the pregnancy as she prepared to accept her nomination at the Republican National Convention.

The governor's office called the birth a private family matter.

I know everyone has probably already read this, but I had to post it when I saw it on my homepage. I'm also sure that Easton probably has a million meanings, but this hockeymom thinks it comes from the hockey equipment co of EASTON. A cool hockey middle name if I ever saw it! May Tripp Easton Mitchell and his family do well!

Happy Anniversary! My birthday is Jan 4th. If it weren't for a BRAND spanking new job, I'd be in Disney with the rest of the Debbies! I need a Disney Fix bad, and I'm not afraid to meet new people! Some of my best friends started as net friends. Disney vacations fit in well with that sort of thing!

Wine flight= new glass of wine with each course to go with the course. I didn't order it. We just had a bottle, then kahlua/bailey's and coffee for dessert. Feeling good but not over the top. Dinner was fabulous! Even better that I'm on over forty days of not smoking so I have new taste buds!

OK...OK...I'll get The War of the Worlds. No need to get violent.:rotfl: Also
#240:laughing:

I love Poe and Twain so will be getting those along with some HG Wells. I always wanted to read The Count of Monte Cristo so that is a given. Since I have 100 to get i am going to get some books and authors that I haven't read or didn't like in the past. I will even give Shakespeare another shot based on your recommendation. I just couldn't get into him in the past.

Thanks for so much good advice. I will take a look at all of them.

:thumbsup2

I was kidding with ya!;) And yeah, #240 just made me burst our laughing. I always thought there was only one Barack, the Chosen One. Guess not!!:lmao: And glad I could help.... heck, I only went through about 3/4 of the list and came up with that.... I just adore reading. As far as Shakespeare goes, go with The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, Hamlet (if they have it), Twelfth Night, and (if they have these), A Midsummer Night's Dream and All's Well That Ends Well. Those 6 are my favorite Shakespeare works. I've prolly read 80% of the books on that list. What exactly is this Kindle-like device you have again?? I could use one!

Grab all the HG wells! Actually, there are a ton of great books on that list. I'd have a hard time picking only 100!

Here is the page at Sony with it.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...0151&catalogId=10551&XID=F:reader:sony#/home/

It is really cool. It doesn't have wireless or a keyboard like the kindle, it has to be connected to a computer to download books. It is also smaller, lighter, about $100 cheaper but made of metal not plastic. Also the kindle is out of stock until some time in the spring I think. You can also download some third party software to enable it to pick up newsfeeds for free from all over the world. It is super easy to use and the screen is fantastic. I find myself picking it up more than I would a book.

It comes with 100 free downloads of classic books plus mine came with two Ian Flemming Bond books since mine is the James Bond edition.:cool1:

Hi all. I come bearing bad news, so I really need your prayers and good thoughts. My mom was the family member I had been talking about. I didn't want to say who it was just because I didn't feel like talking about it. She got the call this morning, and she has breast cancer. On the good news front though, it is very small, non-invasive, and differentiated. The radiologist thinks she might not even need radiation, just surgery to remove it. I am really upset and worried (and we still don't know what the second area is), so please pray for me too. I know it could've been much worse though, so I am grateful and praying prayers of thanks right now. Please pray that they treat her fully and correctly. And on my end, please pray that the genetic factor doesn't come into play in my life and I don't get it as well. Thank y'all. Y'all have been a great help to me, and I'm going to need your support in the weeks ahead.

 I will be praying.
Just wanted to say "Hello" to the Conservative thread.
Im 38 and a Professional Firefighter/Medic. (another Republican Union member)
I am married and have 2 children 3 and 1 years of age. My wife is also a disney nut (but me mostly).
I am an optimist through and through. And, i will remain optimistic concerning our (the USA's) future despite the recent election loss.
I believe that in the end, we will prevail and regain our footing.
I am a Republican mostly because i believe the Republican party most represents the "core" principals that our founding fathers had and wanted this Nation to become.
i am also pro-life. and a Veteran of the USAF.
Yep, i STILL support G.W. and am hoping for a great candidate in '12
Regards,Shawn

:wave2: Welcome! DH is a firefighter/paramedic for the City of Memphis. He's definitely R and prolife. Most of the guys at his station on his shift are, thank goodness.

Well welcome. :wave2:

Is is nice that our thread keeps growing with more Conservatives joining in.

I thought that there were no Republican union members.....at least that is what the mainstream media keeps telling me.

:rotfl2:

Sssh, but DH is a union member also. We don't want to ruin the media's version.

Hey everyone! :goodvibes Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas!!! I miss you guys - I have GOT to make more time for this board from now on!! :)

Hi, Transparent! What a beautiful family.

Today is our wedding anniversary! Whether we want to call it our 24th or 23rd depends on what you consider... LOL Lets just say we've both spent more of our life married to each other than not! We'll be going to our usual favorite restaurant. If I order the wine flight with dinner... prepare for weird postings later. DH has to go to work tomorrow so that leaves me on Christmas break posting schedule!

Congrats!!!!

Hey Soarin, I thought you would get a kick out of this one. Glenn Beck and his radio staff are off on vacation till Jan 5. Every couple of days they have been posting photoshopped pics of Glenn and his producer Stu up on the site as if they are vacationing together. Today's pic is a little disturbing in that Stu appears to have turned into a female over vacation, but at least they are in the happiest place on earth:

:rotfl2:
:rotfl:

and dig what is being said about him sans shirt...

Michelle Malkin has an interesting column about the difference between the press covering H's physical fitness compared to that of GWB --

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/12/27/tale-of-two-presidential-workout-fanatics/

Apparently, GWB's quest for fitness was fascist but H? His workout regimen just proves what an amazing leader he is...oh brother....

I shouldn't be amazed at the media anymore, but that's another example of just how "unbiased" they are.:sad2:

I saw on O'Reilly that Bernie Goldberg has a new book coming out this spring. I just love the title:

A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (And Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media

http://www.amazon.com/Slobbering-Lo...bs_sr_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230602472&sr=8-6

I bet he will get ripped apart by the MSM for this one.

:rotfl: Love the title!

Wait until you see my TR after next week's trip. Can you imagine?... Zip + a digital camera + two days solo in the parks. :lmao:

I'm just jealous. I think it would be so cool to go by myself. As much as I love my family, it just sounds so less stressing.

Thanks. I am looking at these right now. I do know that I guess I will have to buy Atlas Shrugged in regular book form as it isn't available. I even tried to buy it at Borders a couple of weeks ago, but they didn't have it. I guess I will have to get it from our Library or Amazon. I definitely need to read it!

:thumbsup2

I must confess that while I am looking forward to going and know that I will have fun, I can't help thinking it's going to feel really weird there without my family.

That's why I can't wait to work down there. I'll be able to go to the parks whenever I want, and if I want to stand in line for 2 hours to ride Soarin', well gosh, I can do it and no one will complain!!:lmao:
