Hello Cons! :wave2:

I feel so bad for DS. He has ADHD and all the social issues that go along with it. He's slowly going back to regular school after being homeschooled last year and this year (he goes to regular school for reading), but when he goes back he'll be a year back-basically repeating 3rd grade in a weird way. He doesn't have a lot of friends.

We have a fish fry at church tonight and DD invited a friend to come home with her after school and go to the fish fry. DS wanted to invite a friend, too. So I called the mom of the friend-mom said yes, friend was excited, DS was thrilled.

This morning I turned on my cell and friend's mom had called saying her son was sick and can't come. Last night she said the whole family was sick except the friend (mom sounded sick on the phone). When I told DS, he was crushed, and I thought he was going to cry, but instead he went all stoic, which is somewhat worse. Doesn't help that both DD's are social butterflies and are constantly getting invites to go places with friends. I have a couple more friend options I'm going to try for DS, so we'll see how this plays out.

Thanks for listening!

Whew....back.....

just laid DS2 down for bed.....but before he went down, we were watching Imagination Movers and......

(side rant, usually I like Playhouse Disney shows.....but this show gets under my skin......I wish I was in the room when they pitched the idea to Disney Brass........"Ok, dude.....we're like a buncha slacker stoner hackey-sack types who live in a warehouse with an old rat and jam our music and have ideas and whatnot you know"........)

anyhoo,

DS2 likes their music a lot and he always dances up a storm......the problem is, he dances like Axel Rose.....that whole hip swiveling snakey leg dance type thing.....

Is this a harbinger of things to come?

"Welcome, welcome to the Jungle......sha-na-na-na-na-na-na-nee-nee-nee....."

Guess I better accelerate the piano lesson timetable......

I don't like that show either. Their hair bothers me, but my DS does like their music. We have their CD.

Nope, not offended at all. I'm really struggling right now. Going through a lot. Maybe this is my test, I don't know. I thought I'd been through my tests already.

I think what really shook me to the core and made me question things was about a week and a half ago I was supposed to have a phone consult with my endocrinologist. It was on a Sunday so I dutifully headed off to church with my mom and I prayed my heart out that I would hear the words I've been waiting a whole year to hear, "You have Cushing's Disease and you are cleared for surgery." I prayed that god would let me finally have the last set of test results I needed to get there. What I heard on the other end of the phone was, "I'm sorry, you didn't get the results I'm looking for. You have to keep trying and you have to keep testing." It was words I've heard so many times over and over again, month after month. I just broke down and cried for hours that night. I had prayed my hardest and it still wasn't enough. It's still emotional for me to think about that night, I'm almost crying thinking about it.

Faith in god is something that I think I will struggle with my whole life.

I also look at things from an athlete's perspective, it's so hard for us when we give 110% to not achieve the results that we're looking for.
I'm so sorry honugirl. Continued prayers for you.
Wow! This thread moves so fast! I would like to thank everyone for their welcomes! It's always good to find like-minded people.

There are so many things in recent posts I agree with (the stupidity of the Treasury Secretary nominee, the internal ugliness of the Obamas, Obama's crazy obcession with Lincoln, the overpriced party, etc) but what drives me the most nuts is the media. They had a field day when Joe the Plumber hadn't paid $1000 in taxes, but the future SECRETARY OF TREASURY who will be in charge of the IRS owed tens of thousands in back taxes. And it's not an innocent mistake when you haven't bothered to pay since 2000 but then suddenly do so before your announced. Where's the outrage? Where's the press? Oh, wait, they are busy praying to their Obama idols.

Just a quick reminder, Dr Martin Luther King Jr day is coming up and YES Dr. King was a Republican! Lots of great info on http://www.nationalblackrepublicans.com/ ...click on the history test link. I know the Chair(wo)man Frances Rice and she has great articles including the "Emancipation of White Guilt." These are worth reading and worth sharing.
I'll check out the site - thanks for the link.

Meh...GW was not my idea of a great President. He made some decisions I don't completely agree with. However, I don't think he deserved anywhere near the amount of vilification that's been thrown his way.

I've see a lot of folks on the other side of the fence talk about how this side of the fence should want Obama to succeed as his success could mean success for the country. I didn't, however, see that same sentiment bestowed upon GW either time that he won. Instead, I saw a lot of comments such as:

He's not MY President.
I'm moving to Canada!
Get ready to lose your rights!

I don't agree with Obama and I certainly didn't vote for him. However, I would NEVER saw any of the above things....and I'm the one that gets called bitter.
I agree. I can't believe how disrespectful people have been to W. I have a friend who goes on tirades about him. I can't believe the viciousness. I don't agree with Obama on just about everything he stands for, but I would never villify the guy.

Hi! Welcome to our thread. Don't be afraid to jump in.

Great article. My fear is that Bush will never get the credit he deserves. It will all be Obama.

Hey wonderlanne:
ITA completely with what you said about taking life too seriously! Life is too damn short.

This poll is for the CONSERVATIVES only, no lurking libs please.

Who is planning on watching the inauguration?

My TV will be off that day.
2202.gif

Not me! Maybe we can have a 'Puke-Fest' here on the Dis. You know, everyone keep posting wonderlannes' puke smilies. That may send certain libs over the edge though. :crazy2:

Check this out- there will be no escape from the BO-shin dig. Even friggin QVC will be broadcasting from there. :rolleyes2 Get yer Disney movies ready!

Well. I admit to lurking on the lib thread yesterday. I don't do that very often, but I did yesterday. It was intentional to post that letter on the main board to see how fast a conservative would bash it. What I find to be funny is that the first person to be “snarky” over there was a Democrat who confessed to voting for, and liking, Obama. While that poster was called out for being “snarky”, it was blatantly ignored that poster was a Obama supporter.

But, yes, that letter was very contrived. It wasn’t written for his daughters, it was written as a publicity stunt…. Just like his “prayer” at the Wailing Wall was released to the media and just how his “private” reflection at the Lincoln Memorial was made public to the media.

OK.. read a bit more of that thread now. It was only started to get us to bash the letter so that they could bash us. It’s sad actually. Oh, and they apparently want yet another opportunity to bash Pailn, why else would she have been brought up?

They, like I’m noticing a lot of people (mainly those that profess to be liberal), don’t actually think before they speak.

ITA!
And you know what? It is so blatantly obvious that they can dish it, but sure can't take it! :snooty:

For a while now, their entire thread is made up of bashing us, and picking apart things we say. Hello! Some have even gone as far as to, uh, 'follow around' some of our own, which is beyond weird. I see posts being pulled off of this thread constantly and being inserted into posts on the CB when they run out of ammo, in an effort to make the poster look bad, or make our entire thread look bad, I guess. I don't see any of us doing this. Some take posts made in jest, and take it seriously and personally :confused3 Holy crap! Get a grip! We're not talkin' about 'their Momma'. We're just talkin' about 'their Bama'. :p

So, I'm hoping that this is just chain yanking on their part, and they are not being serious. :scared:
They claim they don't care what we think. Yet they can't stay away from this thread. :scratchin

Hey lurkers-:wave2:
As a former arugula smokin' lib :

I'm not fond of BO and, recently the dem/lib party anymore. Shocking, I know! Don't like it? TOUGH NOOGIES!!!! And I could care less about the color of his skin. Guess what? I am sincerely hoping that he can get our country prosperous again. I love this country, and I am super concerned and worried for all of us. Believe what you want, I could really care less anymore, cause you'll only believe what you want to believe anyway. :flower3:

But get used to the fact that he will be criticized, and we will contine to poke fun at him. :p Just as you'll continue to make fun of us toothless, gun totin', Palin lovin' rednecks . :thumbsup2

K, I'm done now :mic:

PS-The new smilie set up is screwin' me up. :rotfl:

My son doesn't have many friends either. It makes me so sad. We send our kids to a tiny Catholic school and his class is full of girls. There are a couple of other boys, but these boys have major problems (major behavior problems). His only friend is a boy who is from Mexico and is up here for this year only. He's staying with his aunt. This boy is absolutely adorable. I'll be sad to see him go. Of course, the class my DD is in has tons of girls and she's friends with all of them. It's hard.

So, I'm trying to get DS involved in non-school activities. We have a city swim team and that has been great for him, but it's only in the summer. Soccer, football and baseball have helped and my goal is to get him some friendships with kids on those teams. It's hard.

Good luck and hugs to your son.

Four years of double standards… this will be fun :headache:

Joe the Plumber – owes 1000.00 in back taxes = outrage
Obama appointed future Secretary of Treasury owes tens of thousands in back taxes = no outrage.

RNC = pays for a campaign wardrobe for Sarah Palin and her family and it will be auctioned off to charity after the election = outrage
DNC = pays for an extravagant stage built on a football field for Obama’s acceptance speech were one of his many columns cost is equivalent to the Palin’s entire RNC wardrobe; and the set will end up in the trash heap after it is done = no outrage.

2005 GWB spends 43 million dollars on his inauguration = outrage
2009 Obama is expected to spend 160 million dollars on his inauguration = no outrage.

…. And the list just goes on and on and on and we’ll have four more years of this. :headache: :headache: :headache:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the greatest men in our history. I have nothing but respect for him, his dreams and his persistence and determination in working hard in order to achieve those dreams.

Barack Obama wants to achieve that status but he is nothing but a phony. He doesn’t work hard for anything; so far he’s done nothing but worm his way up the political ladder by stepping on and using anyone he can in order to get there. He doesn’t know how to honestly work hard in order to achieve a dream; he just uses people to get him where he wants to be. He disgusts me.

Oh, and I don’t have “white guilt”. I’ve never owned a slave and I’ve never hated someone due to their skin color – what is there for me to feel guilty about? :confused3

But, I’ll check out that link – thanks. :thumbsup2

Thanks! Well, I called another friend from school's mom and got an answering machine, but didn't leave a message. Then I called mom of friend down the street and he can go!!! :cheer2:

This mom thing is tough!! (but so worth it!)

Morning all! :wave2:

Glenn Beck is asking for questions for Sarah Palin for her appearance on his TV show Monday. Thought maybe some here might like to send in a question or two:

Ask Sarah

Glenn’s show on Fox news starts Monday night at 5pm eastern---and his first nights guest is Governor Sarah Palin.

Do you have a question for Sarah Palin that you want her to answer? If it involves how much she spends on clothing—don’t waste your time. But if you have a common sense question, fire away in the forum below.

Grog, on a related topic it's noted that in the Obama Administration, it appears that the "Bush Doctrine" is alive and well!!!
The Doctrine of Fakism
Abe Greenwald Web Exclusive

Have you heard the news? The foreign policy realists are here. No more of that silly worldview stuff for us. On Tuesday, during her Senate confirmation hearing, Hillary Clinton set the record straight:

The President-Elect and I believe that foreign policy must be based on a marriage of principles and pragmatism, not rigid ideology. On facts and evidence, not emotion or prejudice. Our security, our vitality, and our ability to lead in today’s world oblige us to recognize the overwhelming fact of our interdependence.

“Interdependence” played a big role in Clinton’s speech. So did diplomacy. Once again, speaking for both herself and Barack Obama, Hillary outlined the new direction of the coming foreign policy:

The President-Elect has made it clear that in the Obama Administration there will be no doubt about the leading role of diplomacy. One need only look to North Korea, Iran, the Middle East, and the Balkans to appreciate the absolute necessity of tough-minded, intelligent diplomacy – and the failures that result when that kind of diplomatic effort is absent. And one need only consider the assortment of problems we must tackle in 2009 – from fighting terrorism to climate change to global financial crises – to understand the importance of cooperative engagement.

But the real star of the show was “smart power”:

We must use what has been called “smart power,” the full range of tools at our disposal -- diplomatic, economic, military, political, legal, and cultural -- picking the right tool, or combination of tools, for each situation. With smart power, diplomacy will be the vanguard of foreign policy.”

In a planned attack of simultaneous “cooperative engagement,” John Kerry supported Hillary’s new realism with an opinion piece in Tuesday’s Boston Globe. Kerry wrapped up as follows:

The common element in this formula for a new foreign policy is replacing military solutions and unilateral action with diplomacy and multi-national consensus. Clinton's work on the Armed Services Committee, her lifetime of public service, and her global stature have prepared her well to help pave this new road for American leadership.

Interdependence, diplomacy, cooperative engagement, multi-national consensus, “replacing military solutions.” If these are to be the hallmarks of a new foreign policy, how strange that on the very same day that Hillary Clinton spoke to the Senate about the sensible employment of “smart power” against Iran, and John Kerry wrote about enhancing “the ability of US diplomats to play the leading role in solving” global problems, Vice President-elect Joe Biden was in Iraq reassuring leadership in Baghdad that “the new administration will stick to the timetable in the [U.S.- Iraq status of forces] agreement,” and keep American troops in Iraq for at least three more years, if not much longer.

And how un-diplomatic was Joe Biden’s message of the following day. He told Barack Obama that things in Afghanistan will get worse before they get better, as Americans are soon to see an increase in the fighting. All this hardly seems like a new direction designed to highlight the “leading role of diplomacy.”

That’s because the most distinguishing feature of the new mushy realism is that it’s shamelessly fake. Hillary Clinton couldn’t possibly believe that, “The best way to advance America’s interest in reducing global threats and seizing global opportunities is to design and implement global solutions,” because she can’t even explain what that means. Barack Obama does not believe (at least not now) that Iran can be talked out of the bomb any more than he intends to “end” the Iraq War, and John Kerry doesn’t think, “we have an opportunity to reshape the way the United States does business with the world.” These fakists have settled on a language to use in public and this is it. Global, interconnected, diplomatic, sustainable, endurable, smart, multilateral, non-ideological. You know -- Obamese. The biggest change Barack Obama has brought to American politics is linguistic. Leaders are now required to create cuddly, meaningless word salads while continuing the implementation of aggressive policies.

The Bush Doctrine is alive and well. This is because George W. Bush was not, as Clinton and Kerry imply, too blinded by ideology to be pragmatic. On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton said of smart power, “This is not a radical idea. The ancient Roman poet Terence, who was born a slave and rose to become one of the great voices of his time, declared that ‘in every endeavor, the seemly course for wise men is to try persuasion first.’” But she didn’t need to reach back to the second century B.C. to make her point. She could have simply adduced the behavior of the current President. Before attacking Afghanistan, President Bush pleaded both directly and through back channels with the Taliban in hopes that they would hand over Osama bin laden. Before going into Iraq, the President got the UN Security Council to pass a cycle of extra resolutions aimed at getting Saddam to disclose his weapons and weapons programs without having to go the military route. In both cases, Bush doggedly sought UN approval for action – something Hillary Clinton’s husband did not secure before launching operations in Haiti, the Balkans, and Iraq.

What’s so bad about the doctrine of Fakism, some might ask. Are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton not merely speaking softly and carrying big sticks? After all, even most of President Bush’s fans agree that his gunfight slang probably did more harm than good. If bold Bush policy has now been complimented by better PR, hasn’t the one sorely missing piece fallen into place?

Not exactly. If you enter into a contract with your leaders whereby you agree to be lied to, where is the accountability? Signing off on a government whose preferred mode of domestic communication is one big wink leaves you very little room to complain down the line. When can you say, “Alright, knock it off, you did something I don’t like,” if your leaders have already made it clear that what they do need not connect to what they say. And on what grounds would you trust their pledges to change course?

We are about to come under the governance of an administration that promises the end to wars it is simultaneously extending or ramping up, and that pretends it will keep doomsday weapons out of the hands of madmen by persuasion. Words matter. Until they don’t – wink wink.
"Obamese"... it appears, will replace "Bushisms"!

Morning all! :wave2:

Soooo.... good morning!!!:cool1:

Sarah Palin’s Tax Problem?

Posted by Josh Painter (Profile)

It appears that Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska has a big tax problem.

It has been learned that Todd and Sarah Palin failed to pay the proper self-employment taxes for their fishing business in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, even though they were sent documents telling them they had to do so.

But in 2006, Sarah Palin got a document she couldn’t ignore. The IRS sent Gov. Palin a notice saying she had not paid her taxes for 2003 and 2004, and the governor paid up.

But the Palins did not pay up for 2001 and 2002, even though the two must have known that they skipped taxes for those years, too.

They didn’t pay those taxes until John McCain decided he wanted Gov. Palin to be his running mate, and McCain sent vetters to look into the Palins’ past.

The vetters discovered the Palins’ little tax error in November and told the governor. Then Todd and Sarah Palin paid up, with interest. The vetters also told McCain, of course.

According to an article by Politico’s Craig Gordon and Amie Parnes, McCain “decided to push ahead with the selection anyway because he ’still wanted her.’”

At the end of the day, a source said, “John decided that she was the best person for a really important job.”

Oh, wait…

It seems that I had my names and pronouns all mixed up. I’m terribly sorry!

It wasn’t Todd and Sarah Palin who failed to pay the proper self-employment taxes for 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, it was Timothy Geithner, President-elect Barack Obama’s nominee for Treasury Secretary. It was Geithner who was sent documents telling him he had to pay those self-employment taxes.

It was Geithner, not Gov. Palin, who received a document in 2006 which he couldn’t ignore. The IRS sent Geithner, not the governor, a notice saying he had not paid his taxes for 2003 and 2004, and Geithner paid up.

It was not the Palins but Timothy Geither who did not pay up for 2001 and 2002, even though he must have known that he skipped taxes for those years, too.

He didn’t pay those taxes until Barack Obama, not John McCain, decided he wanted Geithner to head the treasury, not for Sarah Palin to be his running mate, and Obama sent vetters to look into Geithner’s past.

It was Geithner’s little tax error that the vetters discovered in November, not the governor’s. The vetters told Geithner, who paid up, with interest. The vetters also told Obama, of course, not John McCain.

Again, my sincere apologies for misreading Roger Simon’s Politico op-ed and getting all those names and pronouns confused. But it was an “honest mistake.” I had an “Obama voter moment,” like the 57% of Obama supporters who did not know which party was in control of Congress.

In my defense, I had read “With Palin’s Returns, Tax Profs Move Back to the Spotlight” on the WSJ Law Blog yesterday, and I just assumed that it was a very big deal, and that’s what Roger Simon was writing about. After all, two law professors, are arguing that the Palins’ tax returns are indeed a very big deal. Never mind that The State of Alaska consulted with the IRS, according to a McCain-Palin spokesperson, and the governor’s tax attorney provided a letter stating that the Palins took and reported their deductions properly. Good thing the Palins have that H&R Block guarantee!

I wonder if the Tax Profs are aware of Timothy Geithner’s tax situation? Perhaps they have been too preoccupied with tracking down every little deduction claimed by Todd and Sarah Palin to notice. Besides, Camp Obama has assured us all that the man the president-elect believes is best qualified to be in charge of the U.S. Treasury in these times of financial trouble made an “honest mistake.”

Now, that’s reassuring!

Well I'm currently trying to call in to his radio show to see if I can actually tell him how pleased I am with his choice (the phone's ringing- wish me luck!!!!) of Governor Palin for his first guest.:goodvibes

Soooo.... good morning!!!:cool1:

I've got my fingers crossed that you get to talk to Glenn. If you do get on the show there may just be no living with you around here!

:rotfl2:

More "change you can believe in"... :rotfl2:
In a wide-ranging 70-minute interview with Washington Post reporters and editors, the president-elect pledged quick action on the Middle East once he takes office, promised to support voting rights for D.C. residents, and said he will consider it a failure if he has not closed the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by the end of his first term in office.
So he'll order them closed on "Day 1", per all of those headlines a few days back, but hopefully actually doing it sometime in the next four years is what's really gonna happen... which was basically the same time frame that Bush was shooting for! What bold leadership and action!

Well now isn't that interesting.:scratchin I guess they've decided that desperate times call for desperate measures. Even my friends know better than to hand me that sort of ammunition. Just let me know what sticks in your craw, and I'll be sure to keep shoving it in.:thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I've got my fingers crossed that you get to talk to Glenn. If you do get on the show there may just be no living with you around here!

:rotfl2:

Well, here's what happened- called in, got an answer, put me on hold for a minute- I could hear Glenn talking about something, not sure what, I was then asked what my comment was, I told the call screener why I was calling, and she said they weren't accepting comments at the moment about anything other the Hudson River crash and said to try again at a later time.

So I'm calling back Monday and I'm guessing since his show starts Monday they'll let me talk to him..... so come Monday I prolly won't be live-withable around here anymore!!!:hyper:

Hey, wonderlanne..I meant to ask you, I overheard some of the students at school talking, and they were mentioning that Californians will probably be getting their income tax refunds late, because of the state having so much debt? I haven't heard anything about this, so I thought I'd ask you about it.

darn! i hadn't heard that either, and typically on my drive to or from work, when i'm listening to some conservative radio shows, i'll hear...maybe this morning. i

this wouldn't surprise me though, considering the goings on this year...schwarzenegger takes harsh measures when our representatives can't make reasonable and appropriate cuts in their spending.

if i hear anything i'll let ya know.

Dolce, that tax problem article was a killer.:lmao: You know some libs had to be reading the first part and their heart rate was increasing and their saliva glands went into overdrive, but then half way through they got that sickening feeling in their stomachs.:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

More "change you can believe in"... :rotfl2: So he'll order them closed on "Day 1", per all of those headlines a few days back, but hopefully actually doing it sometime in the next four years is what's really gonna happen... which was basically the same time frame that Bush was shooting for! What bold leadership and action!

See it is all about the Change. Bush was just going to close it in the next four years, but BHO is going to promise to do it in four years. Since he "pinkie-swears" that he will do it.....it will be so!
:rotfl:

Well, here's what happened- called in, got an answer, put me on hold for a minute- I could hear Glenn talking about something, not sure what, I was then asked what my comment was, I told the call screener why I was calling, and she said they weren't accepting comments at the moment about anything other the Hudson River crash and said to try again at a later time.

By then we will have a new thread with plenty of room for your swelled head!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Three. :) We leave on Sunday. Although my husband sent me a text message a little while ago and said he is having travel issues and may be delayed a day. :( He has to take two or three hops to get to Kuwait to fly out, and since he is non-military he goes space available.

extra time for a mani/pedi! you deserve it with all the work you've been doing.
