Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Good morning! ...and a hearty "Welcome Back" to all those recently returned from the World. :wizard:

Gosh my life seems awful busy these last couple of weeks. Really cuts into my DISing, KWIM? ;) I'm all doen Christmas shopping, except for picking up some stuff for DW's stocking.

I have a little vent/question... As I mentioned before I'm going to Orlando for a Creative Ministry Workshop the first week of January. The event includes some small-group time with some high-up creative types from WDW, who also happen to use their creative gifts in Christian ministry. I'll get some behind the scenes peeks at MK and Epcot, and -I hope -some surprises. Sadly, we just could not work it out for DW to go with me because our kids could not miss a week of school, yet DW was very encouraging on me going.

Last week I mentioned the workshop to my best friend (DW calls him my "BFF" ) who is also a colleague of mine. No invitation, no encouragement -I just mentioned where and why I would be away in the context doing some scheduling for January. Anyhow, Sunday my friend tells me that he's going too! And that we can share a room! And that he can get the same flights as me! Not knowing what to say I just said "Great!"... but on the inside I was saying "Crap!"

You see, since DW could not go I was looking forward to being by myself, other than when with the workshop participants. This is just not cool to have four days in FL with my best friend; I want to go with my DW! She's not giving me any grief about it, but I know she must be jealous as can be.

Anyhow, I am secretly hoping that my friend's plans fall through. Is that eveil of me? I know he decided to do this mostly to hang out with me. He doesn't even "get" Disney, so I (selfishly, I admit) don't want to spend my time in the parks explaining stuff.

If anyone actually read this, kudos to you. It wound up being longer than I planned, but it feels good to write it.

I feel your pain. I love my "BFF" dearly as well, but she does not share some of my same interests, so taking her along with me to something that I love but she just kinda enjoys drains all the fun out of it for me since I have to explain everything to her because she isnt "in the know".

I'm looking forward to DH and I being able to take a trip to WDW (hopefully in 2009) together. He's never been and I've been 7 or 8 times but it has been many years for me so it will be like seeing everything for the first time all over again! I don't know if I'd want to go with anyone else though. BFF is no substitude for a spouse.

Go and plan on having a good time. :goodvibes

Let him know ahead of time that if his feet hurt, he's tired, etc. - he can go back to the room and you'll catch up with him later. Let him know this in advance so there's no hard feelings. If he knows that you're a 'die-hard commando' at WDW up front, he'll understand. Let him know he may not be able to keep up with you ;) , and that's OK.

I LOVE taking first timers (if he is one) to WDW. I love showing them ***everything***. Of course, by the end of the trip most probably want to throttle me. :rolleyes1

 to all those with medical issues right now. Big hugs.:grouphug:

I'm still trying to catch up here. :surfweb:

Here's something random on a Tuesday-has anyone ever used those spacesaver bags for traveling? We're going to Virginia next week and we have heavy snowsuits that will take up a lot of room. I'm thinking that if we got some of those bags, we can compact them down and maximize the space. Any thoughts, tips, would be greatly appreciated! :thumbsup2

We tried using them for storage, which worked great.....until the kitties found them and poked their little claws through them. As long as they don't encounter anything sharp that will destroy the vacuum, they're great.

Zip, I completely understand how you feel. I think that when a person has resorted to going solo, they see WDW in a different way. There's a lot you can do, like use the single rider lines and you can do things last minute or ride your favorite rides over and over. I think it's so sweet that you would rather go with your wife. I don't know if my dh would rather go with me or his best friend.

He took his family once before. They spent a couple days at WDW; his kids loved it but he and his wife hated it. He's one of those who failed to plan, so therefore planned to fail. :goodvibes That's one reason it took me by surprise that he would be remotely interested in this event. :confused3

My friend is a rabid texter. If he does go and starts lagging, I'll sit him down on a bench and tell him to text somebody for a while. ;)

I'm already making a mental list of things I will and won't do as a solo guest. I was just imagining it might be sort of odd for a 44yo man to line up alone for Dumbo. Yet I have no qualms about riding Haunted Mansion 20 times in a row.

I did a similar thing to my husband-I went to ride Soarin' and parked him on a bench monitoring the USF football score on his cell! :lmao:

Yeah, you've been putting up the good fight. I've noticed the last couple of days. Unfortunately after awhile they just kinda drain all the energy out of what could be a good debate. I'm all for discussing topics but when it digresses from a respectful discussion into crybaby tactics about how the right just doesn't treat people fairly, you begin to realize that it is a hopeless cause to try and argue with someone who has the reasoning skills of a toddler. :)

It still is tough to resist though :) I cave in from time to time.

You can't have a logical debate with them. They get nasty. I have just quit opening threads that potentially lead to such actions.

I was afraid I'd get reprimanded because I did start to get snippy back at them last week. I don't want to get in trouble!

aw come on, we've pretty much ALL had points over the last 4 months....think of it as an "initiation" :lmao:

Aw shucks Zip, that kind of stinks. I love traveling alone, so I completely understand the feelings you have. I hope his plans fall through too.

I had a friend of mine come over today to work on a digital album (she needed a little help) while I worked on my house. I got so much done today! Maybe I need someone here so I can get things done. :rotfl:

Any action on the CB today?

:snooty: Speak for yourself chickie. I must need to polish up my snarky...

Oh, and Zip....I understand how you feel, but you may enjoy your friend's company :confused3 Maybe you're meant to be the one to spark the Disney Love (let's face it - obsession is a better word for it ;) ) in your friends heart so he'll take his kids back.

Maybe you're the answer to his kids' prayers...;)

Don't worry, I don't think you can get points for closing your eyes, putting your hands over your ears and going lalalalalalala whenever someone has a different opinion on religion to you!

Am I the only one who hasn't gotten points yet? :confused3 Maybe I'm too diplomatic?:confused3 Guess I'm not a "true" member of the club. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Now I know who's collecting all my points! Thanks for taking one for the team! :thumbsup2 :rotfl: :rotfl2: :worship:

Oh goodness... now you've put the pressure on me. I admitted right up front that my feelings were purely selfish.

I'm not generally a selfish person, but I do have my infantile moments when I like everything to go just my way. :sad2: I'm sure no one else is like that at all.
