Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

LOL, loco.

Ok, so let me get this straight (I'm a little confused after reading another thread). So if anything bad happens to the U.S. when H is president, it will always be because he inherited it from Bush?? It won't be because the the Great One messed up or because he made a bad judgement(because he doesn't and won' do that)?

Did anyone catcht the interview with Gibson and President Bush? I only caught the last of it, but I am so happy that he has kept us so safe after 9/11.

That'll work for awhile, but not for long. Look at the Carter presidency, for example. No one was going around saying "Well at least he's better than Nixon." They just knew they had an incompetent on their hands with Jimmuh Carter, and that he had to go. Should Obama prove to be incompetent, it will become readily apparent to the American people very quickly. Obama knows this. I don't know why his supporters don't. If something bad happens under Obama, and he or any of his people invoke GWB's name as somehow at fault, it will make the Obama presidency appear unprepared, juvenile, and incompetent. Americans don't want a president who points fingers (we have children for that); they want a president who acts with power and conviction.

Okay, in theory I'm totally with you. I don't do "fake" and I am a snob about my chocolate. However...the almond bark (or whatever name brand of candy coating, Wilton's makes it too) is extremely useful for dipping. Unlike "real" chocolate, it sets reliably every single time and has a pretty, shiny finish that does not develop bloom. I mostly use the white, but occasionally the "chocolate" as well.

Fake crab, on the other hand, is disgustin. Can't help it. My ex was a commercial fisherman when we were together, and my cousin still is. I am a complete fish snob, and I can not come up with an excuse for it like I can for the fake chocolate.
I must live a chocolate-sheltered life because I've never heard of Almond Bark until y'all started talking about it last night. Perhaps I'll try it sometime.

My dad has similar issues with "fake crab" like you do. He grew up near the ocean and they mostly ate seafood that they caught, so fake anything doesn't set well with him. Me, I hate seafood, so I don't give a hoot one way or the other. :rotfl2:

**absolutely jealous of those who make fun of us who eat fake crab.... I want real stuff too! I think we all need a close ocean.. or maybe the Great Lakes could go salty? hmmmmm
My dad loves blue crab from the Chesapeake Bay area (right near the Atlantic Ocean). Not sure if they sell that throughout the country, or if it's more of a regional thing.

I cannot stand Campbell Brown. She's a *not a very nice person*

She'll get on her high horse and call it as it is ... when it suits her and only when it suits her. The rest of the time she's a *not a very nice name*

She did the same thing to Hillary throughout the primaries. Slammed her, lied about her, refused to call out how much sexism was occurring throughout the primaries.... until the DNC convention. Then she goes off about how much sexism had occurred and how unfairly Hillary was treated. It came out of nowhere. I mean, I agreed with what she was saying that night, but seriously … you can’t trust Campbell to take the correct position on anything. I think she’ll occasionally take the correct position just to shake things up. She needs to be fired as a journalist – because a journalist she ain’t.
::yes:: I learned a while back that just because a journalist starts doing their job a couple of times after the fact, doesn't mean they're actually changing their tune. More like they accomplished their goal and now are trying to win back a wee bit of credibility. I don't trust Campbell at all.

The only saving grace is that we, the bridesmaids, were allowed to pick out our own dress as long as it was from David's Bridal, was the color latte, and was satin. Oh, are those the only requirements?:rotfl: Don't you know that 52 yo bodies don't look so great in sleeveless satin gowns, silly girl?

Here's a pic of the dress except mine is the full-length version.

Teresa, your kids are adorable! I bet you're very proud of them. The dress looks very pretty as well.

I actually had an awful nightmare a couple months ago that I was getting married and was dress shopping and bridesmaid dress shopping. I woke up in a cold sweat! :rotfl: A bunch of my friends got engaged or married this year, and I've listened to so many horror stories about dress shopping that I'm thinking if I ever get married, I'll end up in a funny farm before I make it down the aisle. :lmao:

So I have to go pick it up today. One of my friends is a seamstress and she altered it for me. Then Friday night is the rehearsel dinner, and Sunday, the wedding. Saturday is the "girlie" day, morning at the spa, then off to shopping and dinner, and prob clubbing. I respectfully bowed out of that day. My favors go only so far. I thought I'd leave the youngsters to enjoy themselves for the day and night.

When I told my daughter my cousin asked me to be in the wedding, she found that soooo humerous. She told me I'm going to be a brides matron, not a bridesmaid. Gee thanks, that makes me feel better.

Bolded statement 1: :rotfl:
Bolded statement 2: Aww. I was my best friend's maid of honor when I was 18 and she was 19, and the rector goofed and referred to me in rehearsal as the matron of honor, saying that was how I'd be listed in the program. My voice got Minnie Mouse-squeaky as I yelped "I'm not married!!!" Thankfully she just messed up and I was correctly listed in the program.

My daughter's nanny has said that when she gets married, she wants me to be a bridesmaid. I'll probably close to your age when that happens. No sleeveless for me unless I lose 10#.

That's better though than my SIL. !4 years ago, when my DSIL and my brother were planning their wedding, she said, " I'd ask you to be a bridesmaid but you're kind of old." I was 36. We still laugh about that.
 :sad2:

Heard a cute blonde joke this morning.......for all you "blondes".

Dolly Parton was asked if she was offended by blonde jokes.

(to which she replied)

"Heck no, I know I'm not dumb.

And............

I ALSO know I'm NOT blonde."
:lmao: I'm a blonde myself (dark/ash blonde), but I find blonde jokes quite amusing for some reason. :lmao:

Good morning!

I have been to D.C. twice, the first time many years ago in grade school and the last back in 2000 when I was in college for the National Association of Evangelicals Student Leadership Conference.

I plan to do plenty of touristy stuff, so any recommendations will be welcomed.

I will type some stuff up tomorrow for you. A lot's changed since you were last there!

I love Dolly too! I guess it's because we're all backwoods conservative hicks.

:rotfl: Whenever I go to South Carolina, I'm reminded of the fact that VA simply is not Southern enough for me. Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favorite movies. My kinda people! :cloud9:  I love Southern accents, the culture, all of it. Not so much the food though; I like to eat light, not all of that heavy and fried stuff.

I did alot of digital as well as traditional albums for family and friends. In fact, I just finished a huge digital wedding album for my son and his wife's first anniversary that I had bound into a book. They had a small, quiet wedding the weekend after Thanksgiving last year for just siblings and parents. It caused some flack with the rest of the family, but that's the way it goes.

Speaking of recipes, I also was involved in a holiday recipe exchange right here on the DIS several years ago, which I have on my photo site. If you'd like to take a look at some of my albums, here's the link.

Thanks for the link! I will check this out!

Wellll, I've never been to Greenland and I've never been to Denver, and I've never buried treasure in St. Louie or St. Paul. And I've never been to Moscow and I've never been to Tampa and I've never been to Boston in the fall....
I've been to Tampa (day trip from WDW). I've been to Boston for almost a week, years ago. Never been any of the other places. I realize that's probably a song, but just thought I'd share.

How can the Tag Fairy be a foot......and a Fairy?

These are confusticating times......I am flummoxed...
:rotfl2:

I ask the same thing when someone says that my door is ajar....a jar?....I thought it was a door! Buhdumching! Bwahahahaha!
:rotfl:

But it has been fun. I have no regrets, except for that nekkid run through the budget board on Election Night. I think we can all agree that was not well thought out (it was cold in there.....no heat......)
:rotfl:

This is exactly why I am pleased to find this thread. After two probations for offending the Dis Moral Majority (once for disagreeing with the non-smoking policies at the hotels and again for suggesting sleeping five adults in a room reserved for two), it is a relief to engage in friendly conversation with like-minded Dissers.
Ah, but the real excitement is in the pool hopping and refillable mugs threads! :rotfl:

No, that was a bad attempt at impersonating Rush. Although, I think a bad impersonation of Rush is better than not impersonating him! Is he still sick, does anyone know? I'm a couple of days behind on my 24/7.
My mom listens to Rush, and she told me earlier today that he was still out sick, but may be back tomorrow.

I like AK, but I don't love it like I do Epcot. But if Soarin' wasn't around, I suppose MK would be my happy haunt (no, wait, "happy haunt" fits HM more).
MK is my favorite, just because it's the closest to Walt. I can't really rank the other three parks. I love them all, but for very different reasons. They each offer something very different.

I'm pretty much scared of the other threads since about 3/4 of them have "Obama" in the title.:scared1:
:rotfl:

I am not at all witty. I've resigned myself to not getting a tag.
I've said some tag worthy stuff over the past 3, almost 4, years, but no tag. Of course, before I found this thread, I mostly resided in the Online Games/VMK boards, as well as frequent Theme Parks, Restaurants, and Resorts boards visits.

Lasagna anyone?
breezy, you are to blame for the Grande Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino from Barnes & Noble that is sitting on my computer table right now! ;)

I knew these people once who wanted to argue with so badly that they would chase people down the street, sometimes right into their homes, screaming "Come and argue with me! Come and argue with me!" Sometimes I gave them spare change.

:lmao: :rotfl2:

Question: Does anyone here go and post on the liberal thread??:confused3

Uhhhh.... no. That thread scares me.:scared1: I read like two pages of it once and ran away!!!!!

What new make-up? What did ya order??
I got it from www.eyeslipsface.com. :thumbsup2

Everyday is VS day for me. I know, I know...TMI.
Yeah, same here. :rolleyes1

Oh, and no. I don't post there. I don't even lurk there.

I've read it a handful of times, but never posted. I see that as their place to be together with like minded folks, so I respect them and leave them alone. I don't mind visitors here who come by without the intention of starting an argument or debate, but I still wouldn't post over there.

Ahh...Breezy corrupts another....

I may have once, I don't recall, but I don't now. There's no real conversation over there, just a lot of hostility. Like someone else here said, for a bunch of folks whose "guy" won, they are incredibly bitter and angry. I don't get it. Liberals are always so angry. :confused3

On the other hand, whenever I venture in there and read, I come away smiling and thinking, "How could I be anything but a Conservative?! Conservatives are so joyful and loving!" And sure enough, I venture over here and someone has posted something funny or sweet or naughty or nice. And I know I'm home.

Hi. I'm new to politics this year but please correct me if I'm wrong: The past few years weren't you guys having problems with the liberals (that have now turned into the OS) crying foul every time someone brought up an issue that began in the Clinton administration? Weren't they telling you guys that Clinton was out and that it is the current President who is responsible for the current failings in the country? On Jan 20 won't it be bye-bye Bush and hello lets-blame-everything-on-Obama as he's now the standing President? Isn't that the rule they wanted you guys to play over the last eight years? Shouldn't the same rule apply to them? :confused3

::yes:: :rotfl2:

I don't think the regulars on this thread really post over there. I posted once back in the primaries. After a vicious attack on the Hillary thread (which I was a part of back then) I'd lost my temper with them and posted something on the OS thread. That was the only time. I have lurked on occasion -but not that often. Usually it is something said on this thread or on a general thread that's upped my curiosity to lurk over there to see what's really going on. I’m not saying that I don’t want to post and correct them when they’re wrong – because I do. And they’re wrong a lot. But I won’t post over there. It’s their thread and I figure that if I post I’d be doing nothing more than pot-stirring … like the OS that post over here do. It’d be hypocritical of me to pot-stir over there yet get snarky with the ones who do over here.

Crap, we don't have a B&N around here!! Just Books-A-Million!

It's possible Starbucks might sell them, since B&N sells Starbucks products in their cafes. Took me almost 30 minutes just to get to our B&N in the next city. Used to have a brand new one near me, but they tore it down a few years ago to build a new shopping complex.

OT, but the lighting of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in NYC comes on at 8pm EST on NBC. I'm off to go watch that now.

You are correct. We were forbidden :rotfl2: to invoke the name Clinton even if it was relevant to a topic that required a comparison between Bush and a recent dem POTUS. Going by the libs logic (if you can call it that) anything that happens after 1200 Noon on 1/20/09 is all H's fault. The shoe is now on the other foot and The libs chickens...are coming home...to roost! :rotfl:

Yup. And the same rules should apply when it comes to criticism; they've been extremely nasty to Pres. Bush yet we're supposed to bow and scrape for H? I don't think so.

Exactly!!!:thumbsup2 I'm sorry, but where's the logic in that? Nothing they say makes sense because it's just one big string of contradictions.

Ain't it th truth!

:rotfl:

I ran into an OS at lunch in Burger King today. He was a loud talker and was sitting at the table behind me and discussing the usual about how brilliant 'The One' is. What got me the most is how he had the solution to all our economic woes. You see...all you have to do is get rid of all the Churches in the country because they are taking money away from the Government. This is because people get a tax deduction when they give to Churches and this is "taking the Government's money away". If the Government wasn't "getting cheated" by the churches....they would be in fine shape.

Of course he was okay in ripping off BK by explaining to me how to cheat the survey that you take on your receipt in order to get a free Whopper.:rotfl2:

How can you even talk about an issue with someone like him? Your head wants to explode when they explain their so called logic. It is a waste of time even arguing with people like him since you will not change their irrational mind and all you will get is frustration on you part.

Well, after the peppermint bark was posted....I had a craving. I had to rush to the nearest William Sonomas to pick some up. It was on sale too!
