Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Meant to say it before, but welcome to the thread, Finny. We don't all agree on everything here, and we still get along well. Great group of people. I hope you'll post often.

One of my biggest problems and flaws is that I'm a bit of a control freak. Not about everything and I'm not the type to want to control anyone else, but I like having control over most things directly happening to me. It's an issue of me having to constantly remind myself that God is in control, and thus I don't need to be in control all the time. Because He's a lot smarter than I am. But it is still hard.

I wish I wasn't such a worrier, but it runs in the family. My grandmother is where I get it from, no doubt. She'll find a way to worry about everything. I'm not like that, but once I latch on to something, it's hard to let it go, worry-wise. I can be a bit high strung some times as well when I'm under stress. Thankfully most people around me in daily life are the more low-key type, so that helps a lot.

Just a lot of stuff going on, worries over some stuff, some big disappointments, etc. The holidays are hard on me in the first place because I miss my grandfather even more than usual. He and I were very close, so from Thanksgiving on until after the holidays (he passed away in the early part of the year several years ago) is a tough time for me. I know many others have similar struggles, so that makes me feel a bit better.

Thanks for the prayers, all. I appreciate them dearly.

Prayer said. I used to be one of the biggest control freaks ever. I'm still working on it, but here's something that's helped me surrender to God's will...

I would actually visualize the problem or concern, put it in a box, and hand it over to God. This has helped immensely!

 I'll continue to pray for peace for you.

Rush Limbaugh? popcorn::

I don't know if ya'll ever watch The Soup, but they mentioned that rosie odonnel and babwa wawa were having a feud and asked them to "talk it out", and they put a side-by-side video of a yapping poodle on there. :rotfl2:

I thought about our Washington State buds when I read this....from Ann Coulter and, about the time I thought Coleman was winning in MN, she mentions that the same person responsible for the debacle in WA is the same one in charge of the mess in MN -- :scared1: :scared1:

:sad2: Such blantant fraud. It’s disgusting. You don’t just “find” votes. Votes aren’t just in “someone’s car trunk”. To think that the Democrats are constantly blaming the Republicans for “voter fraud”. I’ve never seen so much voter fraud in my life from this past Presidential election from the Dem's side (there was so much voter fraud for Obama) and now this.

Sickening.

The only “Certificate of Birth” that he has produced is not a Birth Certificate. It is a Certificate of Live Birth, which any foreign citizen can obtain by simply showing up at the Vital Records department of the State of Hawaii and showing the original Birth Certificate from the original birth place, regardless of what country the birth took place in. Forensic records experts have stated that the document Obama produced on his web site is a forgery.

The only comment made by the Hawaii Department of Vital Records is that they “Have seen the original Birth Certificate”. They never once have said he was born in Hawaii.

This is important to note. The OS think that his Certificate of Live Birth is his birth certificate - and it's not. Yes, what he had posted on his Fight the Smears website was proven to be a forgery. No one still has yet to see a legit birth certificate.

How can this happen? How could he run and not qualify?

I, myself, haven’t done the full research on that part but I was reading some comments a few months ago by a person that was looking into it. Apparently, you really don’t have to have much proof that you qualify to run for the Presidency. (note, I said run) It’s been a few months since I last read over any of the research regarding Obama and his birth certificate but I recall that person stating that they found out that, per Illinois state laws, it was really a simple matter to have your name entered for the election. I don’t think that every state actually does a full check to see that you qualify – if I understood correctly; only if there is a dispute in a court of law – as there currently is – will it bring into focus for if the candidate actually qualifies or not. Again, it’s been awhile since reading any of that but that’s what I understood… that some states make it easy to actually run and unless the candidate is challenged in court; there may never be a full vetting process to see if that person really qualifies or not.

If Obama is not a natural born citizen, that could explain how he managed to run as a candidate for the US Presidency.

I, myself, have assumed that he qualifies. (I don’t think we’d be so lucky for him to be unqualified). I’ve suspected that the real reason that we never saw a legit birth certificate during the election is because it lists him as a Muslim because the Muslim religion isn’t like Christianity; a Christian chooses to be a Christian. A Muslim is born a Muslim if their parent(s) are. Wasn’t his father a Muslim? A quick research showed that his grandfather was Muslim, which would make his father Muslim (but I’m not certain that he was a practicing Muslim) which shouldn’t it make Obama Muslim? Even if he isn’t a practicing Muslim? Obama’s mom had Obama listed as a Muslim on his Indonesian school records. I bet you anything his birth certificate lists him as a Muslim. That’s what I thought Obama has been hiding on his birth certificate. He didn’t want the American people to know that he’s listed as a Muslim during the election. But he’s elected now. Being Muslim or not will not change that.

But I have to say this: the OS can spin it whichever way they want. They can bash us for questioning, they can call us names, whatever; but Obama’s actions are those of a guilty man. He’s been challenged in the court of law and instead of producing a valid birth certificate and dismissing all the law suits he’s fighting it. An innocent man would just hand over the birth certificate and be done with it.

Has anyone else noticed that the actual news that we, as Americans, should be made aware of in regards to The One, is always reported by British journalists, not American ones?

Not surprised. At all. American journalism is dead.

:An innocent man would just hand over the birth certificate and be done with it.

Why they have such a problem with it is something I don't get. If they were demanding a birth certificate from a Republican presidential candidate I would agree. I want to make sure that no matter who it is, they have the right to be president.

Welcome to this merry little thread, Big Deal. :cool1:

Barack Obama breaks first campaign promise by dropping oil tax
President-Elect Barack Obama has broken his first campaign promise by quietly dropping a profits windfall tax on oil companies that he promised on the campaign trail.

from today's Daily Telegraph

Surprised?

I am not surprised in the least. Good news nonetheless though IMO. I trust that the diligent journalists in the UK will do the job that the American press will not. :thumbsup2

I recently did an annual self-evaluation which is reveiwed by a peer group and a staff committee. One part of the exercise was to list my personal and professional goals for 2009. I told DW I was sorely tempted to include on the list... To have Barbara Walters in my home next December conducting a "Most Fascinating People of 2009" interview. :rotfl:

Thank goodness I have DW to keep me straight. :duck:

Silly goose, don't you remember that for us to question H's BC makes us hateful racists?

They do it because they can get away with it. Republicans have been lapdogs when it comes to this stuff - they just lay down and take it! Well, it's gonna continue unless someone stands up and fights. If Franken just happens to "steal" this election - I hope this is the time for us to fight!

A few good men & one good old man!

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of
groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open

The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away.

I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm,
walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something.

The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new
Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying, "You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age." And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight and as I got near him I said, "Looks like you're having a problem."

He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, "What outfit did you serve with?"

He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal . He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket. We all shook hands all round again and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the
station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me. One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name........ "Congressional Medal of Honor Society."

I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence.

So many things I wanted to reply to, but I don't have the energy. I read it all though.

Had a very rough day. Been under a lot of stress lately, and today was particularly upsetting. If y'all could say some prayers for God to help me to calm down, not worry so much, and de-stress, I'd really appreciate it.

 Hope you're feeling better today, SD.:)

Silly goose, don't you remember that for us to question H's BC makes us hateful racists?
Oh, I forgot! popcorn:: :teacher:

Hey, SD. Wanna hear something that'll make you feel better? I'm drinking out of my Donald Duck coffee mug for you this morning. :goodvibes

I have been thinking about our country. I am really just trying to get my thoughts together and I thought a discussion would help me define what I am feeling. Not an open debate ( read I have no intent to get the other sides thinking here).

I find myself wondering if God is working to bring about a revival in America. By drawing a definite line between what is Christian and what is not. People seem to want complete separation of the Christian faith and our government. They will most likely get that separation in the next 4 years. Will God choose to use this for good?

What will that bring to our nation? I think more hopelessness. The government - no government - can provide the hope that God can and does offer. Is that the hope and change the people really desire? It is built into humanity to desire God. Will God, by allowing America to detach government from Christianity actually cause the people to desire Him?

Anyone else thinking about this?

Teresa>> the JL needs you!

Everyone... NO, I didn't get an interview, job offer, job... but I did get my acceptance letter to U of Michigan's MA/ED program! I have 15 credits already towards my MA, but with another University. I don't think any of it will transfer, but at least I'll be doing something! I'm going for the Sp Ed MA/cognitive impairment endorsement.

:thumbsup2 :cool1: Good for you! I want to go back to school for my MA/ED too, but I'm a little scared of any more debt right now with the economy so uncertain. Also not sure we can afford for me to be doing an unpaid student teaching gig once my husband is back and trying to deal with the regular job market again. UW has a good program where you do your classes and your student teaching at the same time, but it's still a huge amount of time out of the house every week (I'd have to pay daycare) and no money coming in. Just don't know...

Mickeymedic, thanks for posting that. My husband (Desert Storm Marine vet) got that one from one of his good friends (Vietnam Marine vet) once. I love it.

You're welcome. I have many, many friends who have served or are currently serving in various branches of the armed forces.
