RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA
Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all." Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

Guess I better start brushing up on my Russian...:rotfl2:

I had to go back and reread the original quote.

One word

WOLVERINES!

I think maybe he watched Red Dawn one too many times!

I guess I'm under Canadian influence? *can't stop laughing* Except for hockey, I want to know what Canadian influence is? Am I suddenly going to want ketchup potato chips? Pretend there isn't a drug problem in large cities while I walk over the OD'd people on sidewalks? (in Toronto) Nothing against Canada, but I'm an American. A country's close proximity isn't going to make me say.. OHHH I want what they're having! The last time I went to Canada I was there to take an out of town friend there so she could say she'd been to another country.

I thought that was really an odd one too. We're really close to Canada too....and???? What's the point? I really don't see anything around here being influenced by Canada. But of course, that is because I'm on the west coast which is too busy being influenced by the Chinese. Which I really don't see too much either.

As for all the running...you guys run, and I'll cheer.

I got into trouble with a PE teacher once for telling him that I didn't see any point in running if nothing is chasing you. He actually chased me. Following week he shattered his ankle, and then he didn't chase me anymore. :rolleyes1
:lmao:

Somebody in Russia needs to study history...we bought Alaska (Seward's Folly, russkies...look it up), it's not on loan.
Someone's been imbibing too many liquified potatoes. :rotfl:
:lmao:

I just got online a few minutes ago. I'm guessing I don't wanna know what this is about, right? :confused3 :rotfl:

Hope all is well with everyone. And remember to hang out in here. I was looking around the CB a minute ago, and I see things are still quite funky. :sad2:

You're ok today, mostly. The last three quotes you quoted are from the same article, written by a Russian guy who needs more education.

Things seem pretty normal today, SD. Maybe there was some kind of medication shortage yesterday. Just kidding...

That's why I have my user cp favorited and I just come directly here and my sp animals thread. I rarely venture out. :surfweb:

Just wanted to say hi, have not been on for a few weeks I think the election took the starch out of me. LOL!

BELLA!!! We've missed you! While you were gone someone told us that the food and drink in here weren't real! We were scared for a bit, but we've regrouped into a stronger, thicker skinned bunch. LOL

Hey Bella! We have definitely missed you.

I think I'm burnt out on politics again. Last time (after the 2004 election) it took me until late last fall to even begin to pay close attention again, and I didn't get excited until after Sarah was announced as the VP choice. This time I have no such luxury of waiting until a year out to get into it; I don't want to see a repeat of this election in 2012. Gotta work, work work.

Although I'm taking a political mental break until after Thanksgiving. That holiday is stressful enough without politics added to it. I used to love Turkey Day, but after my grandfather passed away a few years ago, things changed a lot. Not the same anymore. And I'm just wondering what will go wrong this time, seeing as something happens every year now.

Nooooo! The West cannot become the Pacific states. I haven't gotten to visit a conservative state, yet (well except Florida, but we only went to WDW). If this happens it'll be almost impossible. :sad2: :lmao:

Hey, did anyone see this on Neil Cavuto today? http://www.ourcountrypac.org/ It's a Thank you, Sarah, Thanksgiving ad.

Mr. Obama sure is high on himself since he created a new office...that of The Office of the President Elect.

I know, weird. I don't think Canada is strong enough to influence anyone on anything. :lmao:

Sorry to my Canadian neighbors. I actually like Canada. I enjoyed many fun weekends there from ages 19-21. :drinking1

Hi y'all! :wave2: Boy, I've missed this thread. I took a (much needed) break from politics for awhile but I missed hanging out here. I just wanted to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving!

Now, to get myself back to the basics (sorry, borrowing from the last thread), I have a new motto (which some of you might have heard before, so I apologize in advance):

I'll keep my God, my freedom, my guns, and my money.

You can keep THE CHANGE! :thumbsup2

Glad to see ya back IWantMickey! :goodvibes

Alright all, I'm off to watch the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special and the Dancing with the Stars finale. 3 hours total. I haven't watched that much TV in one day since before the election!

Later, gators. ;)

Y'all have been busy.... signing on, even though I doubt I'll be able to keep up with this one either!
