Hi all! Loving the new thread title.
there's no place like home.
Is that a display in a museum? Very neat looking. I know the National Museum of American History in D.C. used to display them in just a clear glass case, but not sure how they're displayed now that the big renovation took place.
kellogg's bama smacks: artificially sweetened and all puffed up.
Checkin' in!
Just wanted to post part of the reason I was off the DIS for awhile:
Meet Ginny!
She's 7 months old, about 35 lbs, and looks to be a Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix. She was rescued from a high kill shelter in South Carolina (with only 2 days left

) and brought to PA. She's settling in quite nicely.
She's adorable! What a beautiful dog. And God bless you and yours for saving a shelter dog.
It is good to have a change in the GOP.

And welcome to the thread! Ursula is one of my fave Disney villains.
I have always admired Michael Steele when he appeared on Fox. He will do a great job. Maybe now the Republican party will have a direction with good leadership.
Is anyone doing anything in regards to Palin and 2012?
I signed up for her PAC's newsletter. I'll donate some moohlah later this year, I hope.
I guess that the other side didn't take kindly to me calling out that they were all

over a guy that they know nothing about. So far, they've pulled a piece off of politico that I can't currently back-up by any quick google searches but they are taking it as the gospel truth. (Actually, reading some of the intro, I thought that I was reading Obamas biography; except they replaced Obamas name with Michael Steels) then it gets into hard core social conservative issues that liberals hate...
Michael Steele's a good guy. We know it and
they know it. It isn't as if "they" would have had anything nice to say about anyone else elected to head the RNC. With Steele, they just have the super convenient race thing to go to, so that's, of course, right where they go. Really, what else would one expect?
Black conservatives take a real beating from the left. I think they are some of the most ideologically honest people in the world. They believe what they believe, even when they are routinely crucified, called the most awful, racist names, etc. They stand firm in their beliefs about what's right for this free nation, when it would be soooo much easier to join the leftist pack. I admire men like Michael Steele
and Thomas Sowell, and Shelby Steele, and Clarence Thomas, and JC Watts, and Walter Williams, and Ward Connerly.
I think what happens in this case is a lot of liberals, particularly those actually in politics, see both female conservatives and Black conservatives as the ultimate threat. Why? It helps show that just because you're a woman, or just because you are Black or any other race that isn't White, doesn't mean you automatically should be a liberal. Dems make their money and win elections mostly based on the idea that they represent the little guy or gal, the underrepresented. If they can continue to perpetuate the lies that conservatives hate anyone who's not a White male, then they can continue to count on large majorities in those demos voting for them. The Republicans hold a lot of blame in this too, because they let the Dems set the tone, set the message, instead of fighting back and showing how the conservative POV fits with ideals and beliefs of many women and minorities, and how it can benefit them.
I find all of the hoopla from some Obama supporters about Steele nothing short of amusing. They continue to show that they know little about our party or our philosopy. Just like when they ran around saying "No one ever heard of Palin before McCain chose her as his running mate!" Um, just because liberals didn't know her, didn't mean conservatives and/or Republicans did not. As I said months ago, we tend to take notice of our own and know a wee bit more about up and comers than the OS do, just like, generally speaking, they know more about their side's rising stars than we do.
Steele was talking about changing directions in the party, changing tones, etc. and going back to conservatism at least 2 and a half or so years ago, before Obama even started running for President on his "Hopey Changemas" message. And out of those running for Chairman, Steele was the one with the most name recognition, ties to media, etc. He was the best choice, hands down. But no, the RNC elected him because we're really just copying Obama! Oh please!
While not wanting to beat a dead horse, I feel that I had to post this. Remember how all the Libs denied that the ball honoring the Medal of Honor recipients ever took place? Remember how some of us were attacked by the rabid OS? Well the American Legion posted a story on their site about the ball with a good video of some of the attendees.
I wanted all of my Con friends to get a chance to read about some of their stories and see some of the men that were honored at the ball, even if their Commander in Chief felt like they weren't worthy to be graced by his presence.
I am thankful for those brave men and their service to our country, even if others seem to find them unimportant.
While I do not like Biden (at all...), I am thankful that he and Jill went to the ball. Good move on his part, very respectful and appreciated. Cannot say the same for the Obamas.
