Has anyone experience of changing planes at Newark NJ? We have been offered a choice of flights with Continental from Gatwick to Orlando in March. Both require a change of plane at Newark. One allows just 65 minutes for the change, the other allows 2 hours.

Is it really possible to pass through immigration, customs and security and still check in for a new flight within 65 minutes, or should I opt for the later onward flight?

If given the choice I'd go for the longer turnaround. Worst case scenario is you have an extra hour sitting/navigating around the airport. You don't normally have to check in again, but I still think 65 minutes is pushing it.

Hi

I usually fly Glasgow to Orlando, via Newark, with Continental.

In Oct 2003 we had a connection time of 60 mins and were really pushing it but we weren't the only one's with this problem this was the advertised connection and we made it but only by the about 3-4 mins, althought the plane was held over for the remaining passengers from the 1st flight, there were about 10 more after us, we were a party of 7.

The 60 mins would have been OK if our cases had come off the plane in the first batch but ours were at the tail end!

It was great getting to Orlando before 7pm rather than after 9pm and this years flight times are the same.

The only thing about a quick connection time is that there isn't any time for a coffee or even the loo if your delayed collecting your baggage and then end up at the back of the line going through immigration.

Hope this helps.

..we had 90 mins in Philly in Dec/Jan, and they both ended up whittled down to nothing...we nearly missed the tampa flight on way out (a lot of time spent sweating in the madness of the security lines)...if we did it again via connecting flights, I'd prefer 2+ hours.

I'd go for the two hour option as well....... they've got lovely rocking chairs at Newark- perfect for reading and relaxing :)

Thanks for all your replies. I think that we will play it safe and go for the flight with 2 hours on the ground at Newark.
