Connecting Studios At Poly -- What are the odds?

I know this cannot be guaranteed, but I'm curious as to how many people have ever been turned down for 2 connecting studios at the Polynesian? I was told it was only a 50/50 shot and so am worried they could end up not being connecting.

Also, for those that have stayed in 2 connecting studios at the Polynesian, curious as to how it worked out renting 2 studios instead of a 1 or 2 bedroom?

I'm not certain where the 50/50 came from as I always see it being said it's about as certain of a request as it can be without being guaranteed. As it's just a request though one always needs to consider the ever so slight possibility it might not happen.

I've not seen a report of not getting it but the DIS is a small subset of visitors to WDW. I've requested and received them twice.

Your odds are good for connecting rooms at Poly, but cannot be guaranteed. There are two factors in play. Plus a third factor, which is temporary.
1) Of the people who are checking out on the day you arrive, how many are in connecting rooms (whether they are being used as connecting rooms or not. Let's say this is 20. (So 10 pairs of rooms are available).
2) Of the people arriving, on your check in day, how many besides you will request connecting rooms? If the number is 9 or less, (plus you), then everybody should get their requests - assuming the standard view vs. lake view breakdown works out. But if 15 people want connecting rooms, then only 10 will get their request.
3)The third temporary factor is that Poly has not yet sold out, so they may have some flexibility now that will not last into the future, so it is even more likely now that you get your request.

I'd give it a 99.8% chance. I haven't heard of a single instance where the request has not been fulfilled. There are 360 studios at PVB. Only 4(?) of them don't connect. It shouldn't be difficult for the room assigner to ensure that connecting studios check out on the same day.

You could be totally screwed and get two studios that connect - to other studios. And there are no one or two bedroom villas at PVB, just studio and bungalows.

Almost all studios at Poly are connecting studios, thus making chances of getting them high. I have not yet seen anyone report that they failed to get connecting studios when they requested them.

PVB has a total of 360 studios and there are only two studios at PVB that do not connect. The two non connecting studios are on the first floor of the Tokelau Longhouse and are considered Standard View studios.

Like others who have posted, I have yet to hear of anyone who has not gotten their request for connecting studios. If I recall correctly, even before DVC came to the Poly the resort was very good at granting guests' requests for connecting studios.

If having connecting studios was important to me, there would be a few things I would do that might improve my chances:

First, I would not make any room requests other than "connecting studios." I wouldn't want the room assigner to think my desire for a specific location (such as high floor or near elevator) is more important than connecting rooms.

Second, (since each room is a separate reservation) I would let Member Services know that I am "Traveling With" the other reservation. DVC is pretty good at trying to keep all "Traveling With" reservations together, or at least close by. By putting the "Traveling With" designation on the two reservations, it might increase the odds that I will actually get connecting rooms.

And third, I would book Standard View studios rather than Lake View studios. There are a lot more Standard View studios (288 studios) than there are Lake View studios (72 studios). That means there are 143 possible pairs of connecting Standard View studios compared to only 36 pairs of connecting Lake View studios. Just by the sheer numbers, the odds of getting connecting Standard View studios should be better than trying to get connecting Lake View studios.

Good luck!

I believe the odds are high. There are certain requests in Disney's system that are given a higher priority because they know that people will be legitimately upset if the requests aren't met. The highest priority request is one for a handicapped accessible room, these requests get met first. The second highest priority of requests is connecting rooms or rooms that are next to each other. Disney gets a lot of families with more than 4 people that travel together and want to have rooms next to each other.

All other requests for things like "near the lobby" and "high floor" then get filled as they are able. These requests get a lower priority since they are preferential and won't really impact the logistics of being able to stay at the property.

At the Poly it's a VERY easy request to fill. It's not absolutely guaranteed, but it's a pretty high certainty.

I agree the odds are very high if the dates match completely and you put the request on both villas. I'm not sure 98% is reasonable but maybe 90-95%. If the dates don't match up, the risk is a little higher. I too haven't seen any reports of non connecting when requested but it will happen eventually I'm sure.
