We are planning a trip for late January/early February. We are renting points from a friend and are looking to stay at the Poly (standard room). We've stayed DVC there before and have loved it!!!

We go with my parents and everyone has really like having connecting rooms. We've lucked out and have been able to get them on our last three trips.

However, this time around we might arrive on a Friday and my parents would arrive on a Saturday. Are we less likely to be able to secure connecting rooms if we are arriving on different days?

There is just no way to know. It all depends on previous people in the rooms and how their stays fall.

Very true. Add to that that hotels are not going to leave a room unoccupied with resultant loss of revenue to accommodate this. So yes, there are factors that do make getting connecting rooms less likely in the OP's scenario.
