Connecting Rooms...How often does this REALLY happen?

Ok, so I have been reading a lot more lately where people have HEARD of people not getting CONNECTING rooms with the rest of their family.

We have gone many times and have always gotten connecting rooms, without a problem.

I don't believe it happens very often. I think Disney is very accommodating.

Also, adjoining and connecting ARE NOT the same thing, so if you ask for adjoining, that doesn't mean there is a door between the rooms on the inside, it means you are NEXT to each other. We did learn this the hard way. ;)

I have seen quite a few posts from people not getting connecting rooms. In fact Disney won't guarantee them. It is considered a request unless you have more kids than adults.

It happened to me last trip. We checked in late and they said they had none left. I know they can not guarantee this but I had it in my ressie. It was important because the inlaws usually put the kids to bed for us so we can do the parks also DD Is very attached to MIL and loves to go in her room in the mornings to get ready. SHe was balling about it. They were not even on th e same flor as us. Luckily 2 days later we moved rooms so that we had connecting ones.

I understand it's not guaranteed, but I can't believe Disney wouldn't do their VERY best to accommodate.

I'm curious how often it happens to immediate family members, like mom and dad getting split, and having to split up the kids?? Like I mentioned, we have not had any issues, but we did get split once from my DSIL family, who was not even near us.

We did, we traveled with both sets of parents both times, both trips and didn't request it.

When we requested it a few years ago, we were told the only way to guarantee connecting rooms was to have all rooms on the same reservation. Our AAA agent was able to tell us exactly how much our room (2 adults 2 kids) was w/ tkts, dining, etc... and was able to give the same info to my inlaws (3 adults). We had absolutley no problem getting our rooms because we booked them at the same time. We were also given the exact building we requested at POR and weren't even able to check in until late due to late flight.

We have 3 kids and my grandparents go with us (4 adults 3 kids). We also do seperate reservations. We have always gotten connecting rooms. Just lucky I guess.:confused3

We are booked at POFQ and have gauranteed connecting rooms. Two CM's told me and it is written on our ressie as gauranteed. Something about our adult/children ratio. Otherwise I would not have changed from ASMu suite, so I asked over and over and was reassured.

Same thing here! We have 4 kids and 2 adults so they told me that because the number of children is greater than the number of adults our connecting rooms are guaranteed.

The first time we went to Disney I requested adjoining rooms and that is what we got--not connecting. This was when we had only two children so it wasnt a huge issue because we only wanted a connecting room with my mother.

I have never been worried about it at all--we have always been given our connecting rooms.

I do agree--so many people say that they "heard" of lots of people not getting connecting rooms, but the instances in reality are probably very rare.

I think this is what is happening in a lot of cases, since that's what I did by mistake once, too. ;)

For our family of 7... 2 parents & 5 kids, we have requested connecting rooms three times and have received them twice. Our oldest child was over 18, if that makes any difference.

It really does not matter how far in advance you request it, or if they are all one reservation, or linked reservations. The only way Disney gurantees it is if the children outnumber the adults.Resorts have a limited number of connecting rooms, far less than the number of requests they receive for them. Lots and lots of people request connecting rooms, not all get them.

We asked for this at Boardwalk last summer and didn't get it. We had 3 adults and 4 kids too! The other room ended up being across and down the hall from us which was completely useless to us......One of our kids ended up sleep walking out into the hallway and security was called because he was banging on the door to get back in and no one heard him! It was a nightmare.....

In about 15 trips at most we have had connecting room 2 times and adjoining 2x. We travel with my parents my DS likes to stay with them but also wants to be able to get to everything in his room.

Guarentee in the hotel business does not mean what people think it means. I've shown up many times on business trips for my "guarenteed king non-smoking" room to end up in a smoking room, or a double.

Precisely. I have guranteed king rooms, guranteed non smoking, and they were all the opposite.

My cousin and my twins and I, just returned from WL and had requested connecting rooms and did not get them. My cousin ended up 6 rooms down the hall. I felt sorry for the guests between us because my 5 year olds were constantly running back and forth between our rooms.

We have requested connecting rooms at the Contemporary before and not received them.

I don't think connecting rooms are ever guaranteed, as they are not pulled from the inventory at the time of booking.

I have had CM's tell me it is guaranteed when it is husband and wife with their children, and I have had CM's tell me they do NOT guarantee connecting rooms anyone, period!

The information you receive, is only as good as the knowledge of the CM you are speaking with at the time.

You know what they say... if don't like the answer you are given, call back and speak with someone different. :rotfl:
